One of my favorite places to stop by for a quick lunch. The carrot cake is amazing and had me wanting more before I even finished. I also like their chicken and waffles and the canolies are good for a non-Italian place.

There was a very relaxing atmosphere and service was nice. Since I came early, it wasn’t busy, but wasn’t dead. The food was fresh and fast. Although the prices weren’t so pretty, it was worth it. The decorations are also cute. [order: Breakfast Quesadilla & Lobster Benedict]

Great tasting food, though for those prices they should deliver your food to you. Also had a hard time finding clean silverware, as their little buckets were empty.

Disappointed in this place. I gave this place another chance despite my reservations. The first time I went with my family, the food was only so-so. This time I went with my family of 3 and it was so much worse than the first time. It was Saturday morning and busy. That’s perfectly understandable but why only have one cashier? We waited a VERY long time in line and there were even two people getting into it in front of me because the first guy had about 12 orders to put in for his family. We sit down outside and then the buzzer rings rather quickly. I receive my meal of eggs benedict and had asked for my steak cooked medium. It was well-well done. The other people in family did not receive their dishes so I asked the manager and I went back to the table. Another 10 minutes pass by and the chocolate pancakes and the petite breakfast plate comes out. The chocolate chip pancakes were quite dry and a side of bacon that was quite soggy. The petite plate was not impressive either. We ordered it with sausage and it had a strange consistency. My sister did not eat it and saved it for her dog. When we got home she tried to feed the dog the sausage and he even turned up his nose at it. Oh and the coffee! I tried the dark roast but it tasted so watered down. I used their half and half only to discover the milk was spoiled. I really hope they get their act together. It has a lot of potential but if they are going to charge those kinds of prices for subpar food and no service, that’s a big issue,

Usually there’s a long line unless you go at an odd time, have had the chicken and waffles love it, any of the benedicts are great, ok chicken fried steak, and good burgers. Not amazing value but not crazy expensive either. Very cool vibe almost like a library, and they have a very large menu so everyone will be satisfied. Only reason I wouldn’t give it 5 stars is because it can get pricey

Black beans, turkey sausage, mozzarella and avocado!

This location is in a nice spot just outside of First Colony Mall. I’ve been here a couple of times for brunch and found that both times the food lacked flavor. The variety of dishes are decent and the food looks great on the menu but the food is very average. I wouldn’t put it at the top of my list but if you want a nice location near a shopping center then it might be worth a try!

Avoid this place at all costs. Sloppy food and slow service made me wonder why this place is still in business. The advantage? u can order a wide variety of mediocre options if you don’t mind waiting 25 minutes for burger and fries. Lots of drink options too, therefore inebriated enough time might pass faster and food might taste better. Not for me but good luck! … or drink up: o)

I think I’ve found a nice contemporary chill spot. This place is not the easiest to find. It almost reminds me of a large coffee shop /lounge around the New York area. A peaceful place to relax and shut off from the rest of the world. I’m beginning to notice self service is a getting more and more popular. Order at the counter and seat yourself until your food is ready. Everyone working there was very friendly with all smiles. Helpful and knowledgable on all menu items. They have a large menu to suit most of your tastebuds. I placed an order for the French Dip. It’s is basically and roast beef sandwich but way better than any one I’ve ever tasted. It didn’t take long for the order to come out. Everything tasted delicious and very enjoyable! After I ate I grabbed a menu to glance so I can have an idea of what I’ll get next trip. Very clean Great service; fast and friendly Relaxing updated feel Breakfast lunch and dinner Dessert as well Drinks, alcoholic beverages also w/a full bar! Excellent outside seating SUPERBFOOD!!! What more could you ask for!?!

Not impressed. I kept getting recommendations to try this place out so I did, twice. The first time it was super busy so I understood when the service wasn’t so great and the tables were filthy… the lobster tacos were good enough to get me to come back and try more of their food. Second time here was even worse. No crowd at all, tables were still filthy, and the whole place smelled like sewage. I had high hopes for the lobster eggs Benedict, but it was so very disappointing. Sister tried the French toast, and it’s difficult for that to go wrong but we could barely finish it because it was so dry and gross. The food was the only thing I was coming back for, but not anymore.

Came in here at 730am, they got happy hour for drinks, 12oz $ 2 drafts and 16oz $ 3 and some other stuff, pretty good deal, it’s a self order place, nice atmosphere, got their Philly cheesesteak omelet for happy hour $ 7.5…wasn’t as good as I thought it would be, the meat was a bit too chewy and omelet was a bit overcooked, I’ll give this place another try and try their Benedicts

Pretty good food. Pot Roast was 4⁄5(first and third time was good but the second time was really bad…) Mashed potato here is always SOFREAKINGGOOD. Garlic bread this time was good but other times eh. So I got the Asian Fish Salad the second time and I feel like they skimped a bit on the salad and fish. I don’t really care about the less fish but the salad… common. That thing is cheap. Anyways, the Fish was 3.5÷5. First time was better. Will come again :)

Service and food has downgraded. The young lady who took our order disappeared during the transaction, in which another young lady took over. She was just as scatter brained as the other one. I ordered a brownie and café latte on a Friday night. My latte was very sweet, flat and cold. It didn’t even come with a saucer, so I had to carefully hold my coffee mug. Desserts didn’t look that appealing, so I ordered a simple chocolate studded brownie. My brownie never showed up. I got up and had to ask for it, in which case they had forgotten about it. Brownie was way too sweet. They were definitely short staffed, and the café was unclean and unkempt. Black Walnut SL doesn’t have the appeal and charm that it used to have.

I loved it. It was this past Sunday. It was busy but there were seats available. We had the salmon and sirloin benedicts. I use to be addicted to another chains salmon … but black Walnut Café’s is amazing. The flavor of the salmon was smokey and great. The hollandaise sauce wasn’t too thin or thick and the potatoes were seasoned very well. Even the vanilla capp was awesome. How they have you order your food and pick it up is nice. It worked out great for us. It seemed like they only put one order out at a time food wise which is good because I am picky with germs and other people breathing over it. Even the cashier was very helpful. I will be back for sure

Not worth the price. We had to wait too long for breakfast, and it wasn’t crowded. We picked up our food immediately but everything was cold. I got a Pico Benedict and the tomatoes, spinach, bread, egg and potatoes were all cold– as if it had been waiting on the pickup bar for a long time. My husband’s eggs Benedict was cold too. We have come back because of the convenience and when you have a 2 yr old your options are limited. We had brunch today and they only had one cash register open when the line was out the door. I also had to ask someone to come wipe the tables off outside, and they only wiped off the tables that were unoccupied until I waved him down to wipe ours off too. What about that makes sense? They need better management.

Black Walnut’s location in Sugar Land is still a 3 star. The exceptional menu, the kid’s offerings, and the nice selection of teas are always attractive. My family came in and sat at a table to look over the menu. When I got up to order, there were three parties ahead of me. I would not have minded it as much, but after 10 minutes of waiting you would think they open a new cashier. Finally, they opened another cashier, and ushered me over. We ordered the BWC favorites, the Darn Good burger and the Black Walnut salad. We also had the kids split a kids’ mac’n cheese and strawberry milk. The peach iced tea is also good if you need decaf. Also try the strawberry iced tea– very refreshing. The Darn Good burger is usually as good as it sounds. This one has double patties, cheese, mushrooms, lettuce, and a chipotle mayo sauce. However, this time the beef patties were overcooked slightly and tasted much more dense. The Black Walnut Salad was good, especially with the strong taste of the raspberry walnut dressing. A generous portion of chicken breast, gorgonzola cheese, nuts, and garlic bread. It was good but not great, although I realize I am not as big of a fan of gorgonzola. Perhaps I had bigger expectations of their salad?(pastas are next to try) Overall, good value and decent selection will have us come back.

Standing in line to get in is the only reason for the four star instead of a five. Fast service, great food and pleasant easy going staff. Being able to mix meals is a real plus for us. My husband likes breakfast and I like lunch on Sundays so a win win here. On our list of places to return for dining.

I love this place. Came this morning because I was craving eggs benedict but never had it here before. I had their Lobster Egg Benedict and it was delicious. Everything came out in a warm and perfect temperature. Very flavorful. It’s busy this morning and walnut café is filled with people with their significant other, a friend, or groups of friends. It’s a really great place to meet up. Music not too loud, it’s clean, and it’s a very inviting atmosphere. I’ve had nothing but good experiences from this place and I definitely recommend

I brought my 5year-old daughter here for brunch on New Year’s Eve, a little Mommy/daughter date. Overall, not horrible but there are a couple things I can give constructive feedback about. Upon entry the restaurant itself is warm and welcoming, just the place you would want to settle in with friends or a good book. I grabbed a menu and ordered Sirloin Eggs Benedict for myself and off the ala carte menu for my girl. All smooth sailing so far, but when I tried to find seating for us, every single empty table needed to be bussed. I counted 19 tables that had dirty dishes and glasses, and no bus boy/girl in sight. I ended up clearing a table for us by setting the dirty dishes on another table and wiping down our table with a diaper wipe(Mom always has those handy!) I’m not sure if they were understaffed on a busy day or what. I went to get our drinks, and another customer had left coffee cups with bright pink lipstick stains on them on the counter in front of the drink fountain so that you had to reach over them to fill your drinks(real classy, lady, whoever you are). The food came quickly and it was pretty tasty. The sirloin steak was cooked perfectly and they included extra hollandaise when I asked for it. As we began our meal, the staff came out to clear the tables — it looked like the cashier was doing double duty so people coming in would have somewhere to sit. I would come here again as they have several types of eggs benedict and its my favorite breakfast dish. The staff I interacted with were all unfailingly polite, courteous and hard-working, again I think they were short-handed.

This place has okay food. My mom got a grilled cheese sandwich with a tomato soup. She said the soup was good. I tried her sandwich, it was good. My husband got a French dip sandwich, he didn’t care for the Asiago sauce. I had the three pepper burger. It’s really spicy but that’s what I like. If you’re not into spicy, don’t get it. They were really cheap with the fry portion on my plate but not my husband’s(it’s okay he shared.) For the price, you might as well go to a sit down restaurant with a waiter. The cheesecake is horrible! There’s a Cheesecake Factory a skip and a hop away, go there instead for desert.

It is usually not a good sign if you are still hungry after completing a meal. For the last few times that I visited this establishment, the food has been disappointing me. The flavors are not as rich as they used to be and the portions are surprisingly smaller than before. However, what really ticked me is the cleanliness of the silverware. Attached is a photo of my cup of water; have a look for yourself and decide whether you would drink from that. In short, I wouldn’t overpay for the food here until some positive changes are made. I hate bashing this café because it is one of my favorite places to go to for delicious café food. Not any longer it seems. Update: Black Walnut Café has since contacted me offering to make up for my recent dining experience. Of which I respectfully denied but am gratefully appreciative of their continued effort in improving their quality of service. Only time will tell how much will change. Thanks for reading my rant. Have a great day.

The restaurant looks very nice and the patio is spacious and nice for dinner or a nice weather day. Take note, there is apparently two doors to access the patio. At our dinner someone in our party was unknowingly blocking the side door on the patio so it couldn’t be opened from the inside. It was a bit dark as it was evening and this was not easily noticed by our party. So a server who wasn’t carrying anything, instead of politely coming around the other door to ask us to make the adjustment, got frustrated at not being able to open the door and attempted to push the door open anyway. The door ofcourse hit the chair that was covering the door and had someone sitting in it. He poked his head out, told us to clear the doorway and recoiled back inside. The others who worked there that night also seemed they would rather be somewhere else. If this is true, then they shouldn’t work(there). You took the job voluntarily, you get paid, then make the best of it and treat patrons as you would expect to be treated. When more people like your place and come in to spend money, they pay your paychecks. Funny how that works right? Also don’t waste your money on the lobster macaroni. It’s just pasta with very little cheese and about four small bites of lobster. Don’t know that I would ever go here again.

I really love coming here for breakfast, specially on the weekends since they serve breakfast till 4 pm. I’m a big fan of their lobster eggs Benedict, but today I tried the burger eggs benedict. I was pretty satisfied with it ! It was like eating a burger for breakfast but half a step better, I give it 9 out of 10 ! The lady that took my order was great ! The only thing I had a tiny problem with was the wait to get my food.

Normally I have great things to say about black walnut… and then I went Friday am… they weren’t very busy. Yet service was slow! When I got my food(eggs Benedict with house potatoes) I was disappointed. My eggs Benedict was overcooked and my potatoes were basically raw. I was really disappointed. I crave this so for it to be off… but I’m going to go back and try again and post an edit to this review.

Came in to try BWC for Sunday brunch. At first we saw the long line out in the rain, but it moved pretty fast. After ordering we only waited maybe 7 – 10 minutes before our buzzer started going off. I ordered the migas with bacon my friend ordered the Napoleon French toast. Both were delicious. The reason I’m not giving it the full 5 stars is because we didn’t really get to interact with any of the staff, other than the cashier. Now days customer service is a big part of your experience anywhere! Perhaps they should have some wait staff come around offering to refill or asking if there’s anything they can get you. Anything to make your experience more enjoyable. Other than that, good prices for a decent brunch.

This is the perfect spot to meet up with friends, have a casual shower(I’ve been to 3 baby showers here), lunch with family, you name it. It’s located at the heart of Sugar Land, next to Lululemon in First Colony Mall. You can reserve the long tables for a larger group in the back, and they have a few couches for even more comfortable dining. I love their freshly made and very cheap breakfast burritos, soups are good, salads are fresh and yummy, and tried the lobster tacos today which were yummy. You pay upfront and wait for your buzzer to buzz to go get food, everything is made fresh, love it!

This is a case, where looks can be deceiving. The place is nice, clean, and sweet in nature, but the breakfast I had was blend. My plate looked really nice, and I was excited to eat. When I put the food in my mouth, I was like you got to be kidding me this stuff is dry. The prices are affordable, and you get a decent amount of food for the money. They have plush chairs to eat in, and little tables to eat on. The staff is friendly, it’s a walk up, order, pay, get your food at the next corner type of place. It’s not bad, but i’ve had so much better. Step up the seasoning please!

Giving this place a four star for now just because I have not been here enough to try everything. But what I did have was the lobster Alfredo and it was amazing. My friend got the omelette which was pretty good as well. She said she really liked all of their breakfast stuff, especially their Benedicts. However, I am not a breakfast person. Would definitely recommend this place for brunch!

I’ve heard so many great things about this place, and I’m glad I finally found time to try it. My family and I came here for Mother’s Day, so naturally, the wait was ridiculous. I’ve seen lines into the parking lot to get into this place, so definitely come prepared to wait. It took about 20 minutes of standing in Houston heat to place our order. Kolaches(3⁄5) — We got the turkey sausage & mozzarella and the ham & cheddar. They were pretty good, but nothing too special. It’s buttery and flavorful. It’s definitely a little on the greasy side, and I felt like there was too much cheese and not enough meat. Cordon Bleu Benedict(5⁄5) — My favorite dish as of now! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The flavors just go so well together. The egg, the chicken, ham, everything, is perfectly cooked and served beautifully. And there must be something in the hollandaise because it’s amazing. Highly recommend. Bacon Cheeseburger Benedict(4⁄5) — Honestly, I’m convinced you can’t go wrong with any of the benedicts here. This was nearly as amazing as the Cordon Bleu, but it was just a little on the heavier side for me. They’re like mini sliders in the form of a benedict. Yum. Chipotle Chicken Pepper Pasta(3⁄5) — Spicy, flavorful, but nothing that made it better than other pastas I’ve had. I love spicy food, but I felt like the sauce was a little overpowering and overwhelming on this. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn’t get it again. Orange Juice(2⁄5) — I don’t know if we got a bad batch, or maybe it’s just not worth the hype. Doesn’t taste fresh squeezed to me. It’s sour and unappetizing. We ordered a carafe to share amongst the 8 of us, and it was left half full. Maybe it tastes better in a mimosa. The service was amazing all the way around — except for our cashier. Poor girl looked like she hated her job and couldn’t even crack a smile at me. Eh. Also, a tip for anyone that comes — know what you want to order, and order it all at once. Because if you decide that you want a something halfway through your meal, you gotta go to the back of the line and wait all over again. Overall, it’s a great brunch place for a fairly decent price. I’ll definitely be back to try some other things.

Guys, I’m sad. I went to the location in Rice Village, and loved it. It was so good, I actually did not even realize I had already been to a «Black Walnut Café» in Sugar Land-I thought they were two completely different restaurants. So I decided to give the SL location another try, because Rice Village was sooo good. I ordered the Chipotle Chicken Pasta item, and the quality was def not as good as the RV location. The chicken pieces were much smaller, and not very appealing, they looked like the bottom pieces of the chip bag-small, deformed little pieces of chicken :(There was wayyy too much of the tortilla chips on top, they were really gross, and should be just a garnish to add color to the plate, not completely mask the taste of the actual pasta. The garlic bread that came with it was squished in a piece of foil. We had ordered the Darn Good Burger too, and the bun was completely dry. It was supposed to have a garlic sauce on it, but both were dry. Five Guys has better burgers, for sure and half the price. I think I will stick to the RV location, the food was more fresh and tasted better over there. I’m just a little sad because the chain itself has so much potential.
