DEFINE body & mind

I’m back to bump my review allllll the way up to 5-​stars, because after several months of frequenting this DEFINE location, I cannot name ONE THING that I don’t like. DEFINE-​Sugar Land has all this and more: spacious, clean, chic fitness boutique; BEYOND energetic, helpful, and friendly staff who actually greet you by name when you walk in; relatively small to medium class sizes for that perfect balance of individual attention from your instructor and camaraderie with your fellow classmates; and –one of my personal favorite perks– spin bikes that aren’t a pain to clip in and out of! No longer am I the loser who can’t unclip and ends up sheepishly running out of class barefoot with my spin shoes still clipped on the bike. That’s definitely the extra pat on the back I need after an insane REV class!
Speaking of classes, I’ve had the pleasure of taking REV/​spin classes (detailed in my original review if you want to check that out), BODY/​barre class, and their special Revolution 30 + Body 30 class. The latter is a combination of the two formers: first, 30 minutes in the REV room for spin class, then hopping over to the BODY room to do 30 minutes of barre/​pilates. I haven’t seen any other DEFINE locations offer this, so it’s a Sugar Land exclusive and it’s really effective! Fellow ClassPass members, the 30:30 class IS accessible to us, but is never listed on the ClassPass schedule for some strange reason. If you’d like to sign up for the class, shoot DEFINE-​SL an email and they’ll sign you up manually.
Membership and class rates are available on their website. With memberships starting at $ 150/​month ($ 225 for Body + Rev), DEFINE is pricey. But if you can afford it, you will absolutely love Elizabeth, Caroline, Megan, and everything else this particular location has to offer. Or, you can be like me and use all your ClassPass visits here, then pout when you reach the 3-​visits-​a-​month limit and begrudgingly try other studios while wishing you were still at Define.

Out of all the Define locations I’ve been to, this one is by far my favorite! You’re never just another face here, Elizabeth (the owner) goes out of her way to remember everyone’s name and make you feel at home.
The Body class is a barre workout involving small isometric movements that target your arms, abs, thighs, and seat muscles. Don’t knock it til you try it! I love that this workout is very low impact and very effective. The Rev class is just another word for spin. At Define you’re required to clip in to the bike, meaning you need special cycling shoes which you can rent for $ 3 when you arrive, or bring your own. Lockers, bathroom (no showers), and water bottle refill station all provided.

The Define method is the ultimate combination of a full body workout, including cardio. I have been going to Define Sugar Land for 2 years and have experienced huge results. I am an avid outdoor cyclist and the BODY class is the best cross training I have ever experienced. The workout includes stretching, lifting light weights, barre exercises and most importantly no impact on the joints. The one hour class is non-​stop and works out every body part. The REV class is a rock & roll spin on a bike and no other word to describe the atmosphere than excellent.
The studio is neat, clean, & welcoming. It has a convenient location with ample parking spaces. Easy in, easy out, no excuses. The studio owner knows all of her clients and is one of the best instructors I have ever had. She is hands on making adjustments and suggestions along the way to all of her clients. The other instructors on board are all well trained and quite professional. Another huge benefit is the APP which is kept up to date, so that I can easily keep up with the schedule and book my classes.

Was recommended to this studio by the staff of the Lululemon store in Sugar Land. Met with the owner of this define store and I explained to her the need to work out my core and some back ache I was having. I informed her of my back aches and need for some leniency or help during class. She promised to work with me and let other staff note. I was only able to attend 3 classes after paying $ 300. No one was willing to help and expected me to go through all the poses fully by calling you out in class.
I had to stop going… she didn’t even bother calling to find out why I stopped classes despite the fact she knew I paid for months… and none was refundable.

If you live in Sugarland, or anywhere near it, do yourself a BIG favor and drop in to Define to check out one of Elizabeth’s classes, your body will thank you for it.
As a Define goer for a while, I decided to venture outside the loop and check out Define Sugarland and a 30.30.30 (30 minutes of pilates, 30 minutes of rev (which is spin) and 30 minutes of mind) I had been before to this type of workshop so I knew what to expect, but as a teacher, you really never know what to expect. Each has their own rhythm, and way they do things. Elizabeth is awesome, super motivating, she remembers everyone’s names, answers all and any questions, and you can tell she has a passion for what she does. (She is also the owner of this location) They offer pilates and a Rev classes M-​F and weekends. Memberships vary to packages to unlimited classes. If done one a regular basis, Define’s methods will change your body, I’ve seen it in mine.
It also seemed like she had a nice group of people that attended regularly, and all ages. If Saturday’s workshop is any indication of Elizabeth and her classes. Define Sugarland is bound to be an overnight success~

Beware Define is addicting! After playing college soccer, I tried everything workout wise nothing got me excited about working out until I found Define! If I could live here I would. I love all the instructors and they’re really knowledgeable about injuries and how to modify things… Which is great because I am somewhat of a klutz. Don’t feel like you had to have taken dance at some point in your past. Some of the moves might feel a little silly in the first class but once you see the results you won’t care! Elizabeth and her team are awesome the mind class is a must for anyone who hates to stretch but is in dire need of it! If you are even the least bit unhappy (or not) with your workout routine you have to try DEFINE!

Very excited when Elizabeth opened DEFINE Body & Mind in Sugarland. I’ve been taking DEFINE classes for over two years following her realize her goal to have her own studio. I’ve found this exercise to be best fit for me to achieve results with knowledgeable well trained instructors. DEFINE in Sugarland has a great balance with body, mind and revolution classes. What’s the key difference? The personalized approach to get to know the clients in classes and workshops so that you have the right form to achieve results together. Nothing better than having an atmosphere where the instructors and fellow classmates cheer you on. Woot! Woot!

Today was the grand opening of Define Body & Mind, and they continue to open locations where it makes sense demographically.
This is a beautiful studio that looks very nice inside. You can tell they were putting their best foot forward by having the best Define instructors teaching today, free classes (had you signed up), plenty of extra hands on deck, and great freebies.
Define is always pricier, but I feel like you get so much more. They offer much better hands-​on instruction than I have gotten at any gym, making you feel like you’re working out properly. They also call you by name, talk one-​on-​one if you have any injuries, and are constantly scanning the class to see if anyone needs additional help. So, I wouldn’t mind paying the little extra about once a week.
This studio is gorgeous with at least two rooms and two locker areas. Socks are required (any will do), but they have them on-​site for $ 10. They also have other gym clothes. Lemon water and fountain water are on hand. Their Revolution room (think spin classes) have beautiful grey walls and lovely huge lanterns hanging from one end of the ceiling. Their barre room actually only has one barre, and so if you’re kick butt or have good balance, you can aim for some of the other spots in the room.
They can improve their whole process by having the online sign-​ups for each location be one sign-​up for all. The same holds true for their «sign away your rights» form when you enter the studio for your first time. If you’ve been to other DEFINEs, you still have to fill one out.
All-​in-​all it was a fun experience today, and I’m glad Sugar Land can join in on the trembling and the burn that is a Define workout.
LOOK OUT FOR THE DEAL: In the first month (April 2013), they are offering $ 25 unlimited classes for your first month and $ 25 for automatic renewals. That’s a crazy good offer since each class is about $ 20. Call them for more details!
