I could easily drink the Spicy Soy Ramen broth because it’s just that good. Of course, you’ll probably burn a hole through your… you know what. But… maybe worth it. The 72-hr Slow-Cooked Kobe Beef Skewers are very good and a must. Pretty much identical to Kata Robata’s. The sushi is good, but not great and not worth the price considering that there are better spots for equivalent prices. Nigiris like the O-Toro and Uni were okay, not great. If the reviews were bout the Sushi, I’d give this place a 3-star but I enjoy their ramen broth so much that it’s pushed to a four. The downsides are the price and the location. A bit far for the A-Liefer.

I was not impressed with the spicy soy ramen neither was the rest of my party. The taste was mainly spicy and there were weird chunks of ginger. It tasted spicier than the ones you get with sushi. Maybe it just soaked in all the spice or something but it was gross. The cali roll was good.

I was a little disappointed on my visit since this place had many positive reviews, but I feel the suhsi was a little pricey, and it did not meet my expectations. I tried the seared white tuna and boiled shrimp nigiri. Although presentation was nice, but the sushi seems kind of small in size and did not taste very fresh. For the rolls, I tried the Rock N Roll, and it was just average. I find the shrimp tempura was not very big in size, and I didn’t really taste it as I was eating the roll. There was only one waiter that day, and he was friendly. The back way to the restrooms were a little messy. I would like to try again, but I will try the specialty rolls next time.

The spicy soy ramen is very good. I like the rolls but the actual sushi is okay. I wish the prices were a bit better. This is my pet peeve though — why oh why — don’t they know how to pack to-go orders! If I order a hot dish — PUH-LEEZE don’t pack with my cold sushi. It makes it warm, gross and unsafe to eat. I’m still giving a 4 star though– because the ramen is THAT good.

Excellent food, service and venue. While visiting my parents for Thanksgiving with my girlfriend, we decided wanted something affordable and delicious. We were led to this little gem given all the great reviews and we were not disappointed. I wanted to try the lobster macaroni & cheese after seeing an incredible picture of it while my girlfriend ordered the miso eggplant. Both were equally delicious. We also had miso soup to start, and this was some of the best miso soup I’ve had in a while. I’m pretty particular about my miso soup and this hit the spot. Very fresh ingredients all around. There were some other things on the menu that we wanted to try but simply did not have enough time. In addition, we sat at the sushi bar and got to watch the chefs hand-make a lot of incredible looking rolls, sushi and sashimi. GOTOTHISPLACE!

Having heard that the chef who opened this restaurant came from Kata Robata, my expectations for their food was high. While the food wasn’t over the top amazing, it did not fail at all. Many of the items on the menu were copied from Kata Robata, like the 72 hour slow cooked Texas Kobe Beef Skewers, which were soooooo flavorful and succulent. The Spicy Soy Ramen was also enjoyable, and was indeed a bit sweet as all the previous reviews had mentioned. The experience however was just terrible. It was Friday night and the small place was quite packed. We walked in at 7:30, and waited 15 minutes before someone sat us down at a table that had been empty since we walked in. There were only two waiters working, no host/hostess. We took 15 minutes looking at the menu and placed our orders after finally waving down one of the flustered waiters. And then we waited. For a long time. The four of us, who had ordered an appetizer, three ramens, and two rolls, sat and waited, and watched as two other tables who sat down and ordered after us got their food, one dish after another. 30 minutes in and we asked our waiter where our food was. He went into the kitchen, then came back and told us our orders were being made«right now». It was 35 minutes before we were finally served our Kobe Beef Skewers. By now one of those tables had finished their dinner, and the other table had gotten all their sushi and ramen orders, while our group, who ordered the exact same items they had BEFORE they did, were sitting at an empty table and quickly growing more and more impatient. There had been no new customers for a good while, yet the 3 sushi chef looked extremely busy. 10 minutes passed and we found out they were fulfilling to go orders, rather than making our sushi rolls. Another 10 minutes passed before one HANDROLL finally came out. 10 more minutes later and our ramens were finally served. Over an hour after we placed our order. The last roll came out after another 15 minutes after, for a total wait time of 1 hour and 20 minutes after our orders were placed. Absolutely ridiculous how sloppy the service was.

This has been a frequent lunch spot for me and my co-workers. Having recently been to Japan I can say that the food is very traditional and very delicious. They also recently added Takoyaki as a special item which has been particularly difficult to find in this area. I would highly recommend this place for lunch and dinner. If you want a taste of traditional Japanese street food try the Takoyaki. I challenge you to find it anywhere else!

Let me start with a disclaimer — we go to sushi places looking for something new and different. You’ll never find a California roo on our table. That being said, I hate to see so many pages of rolls that are just the same ingredients rescrambled. As for Muchi Sushi, what a surprise. This sleepy little strip center restaurant ha amazing food. I usually deduct for lack of ambiance, but the food was so good they totally rock. Started with a garden salad that was not your run of the mill Asian restaurant salad. Beautifully fresh mixed field greens, tomatoes, cucumbers answer walnuts with a minor dressing that was so good I considered ordering another. We had Sunrise Roll, Puerto Rico roll, Texas Horn and Eel Crunch. Really amazingly good. All were special and innovative. No gluten free soy, I had my own in my purse. They should consider redecorating, but really good food.

The best ramen I’ve had so far on my tour of Houston’s Best Ramen! The chef is originally from Kata Robata which is listed as one of the best of the top 10 Ramen in Houston! Been to both and this place is significantly better! I’ve fallen in love with the place so much that I go there 2 – 3 times a week and a lot times 2 nights a row! Great service and very sociable at the bar ! I also love how they know about most of the ramen places in Houston and Austin, because they were on a similar quest as mine! On most nights I get the Spicy Soy Miso Ramen with a big side of chili oil, but some nights I get their 10 hour stewed Bone marrow and Pork Ramen Special! Also, other delicious meals are the Yellowfin Tuna Collar and the Kobe Beef Tacos! The yellowfin tuna collar is deceivingly filling and loaded with lots of delicious meat! Don’t just walk here get on the fastest plane to come here ! Easily one of the best restaurants in or outside of Houston for me ! My only regret is that I didn’t know about it earlier!

There were some mixed reviews with some calling this place a Kata Robata knock-off. I like Kata Robata so i dont know if that’s a bad thing! Now, this will be your typical no frill, family-owned, neighborhood restaurant. Bf and I dined here for lunch on Sunday. There were a few tables, mostly families enjoying lunch together. They have quick service. Not knowing what to expect with their portion sizes, we ordered the following: Kobe beef tacos(Comes with 2) Uni(2 sushi pcs) salmon belly(2 sashimi pcs) Sashimi Combo platter(12 pcs) Tonkotsu Ramen They were VERY generous with their sashimi platter!!! The sizes of the slices could have been equal to double the pieces. The ramen was the last dish to the table. We finished everything except the ramen! Too bad we were not going straight home, otherwise we would have taken the ramen to go! Everything was flavorful! We will definitely be back again!

My new go-to sushi spot whenever I’m too lazy to drive out of the way(very rare). This place is exactly like Kata’s menu just less items but more of their own made up items as well. Everything was pretty good to me, just a few things I probably wouldn’t bother to order again and leave it to kata instead. –Seared Salmon & Quail Egg(5⁄5) usually this is suppose to come with truffle mushroom on top, but since they were out of stock, they gave me 2 for $ 7.00 instead of 1. The flavor of the truffle oil and texture of the seared salmon and slightly cooked quail egg blended just right with each other. –Foie Gras & Scallop(4⁄5) a little different than katas from what I remember. I swore there was truffle oil on this at kata. THATSTHEONLYWAYTOTOPITOFF! –Puerto Rico Roll(2⁄5)(fried lobster, spicy tuna, mango, avocado, unagi sauce, tobiko) I have no idea why this is even a «highlight» here, more of an amateur sushi item. Nothing in this went well together. Not my cup of tea. –Sun Rise(4⁄5)(yellowtail, avocado, peppercorn tuna, truffle vinaigrette, Asian sauce) again, something was a bit different with this role than kata’s but it’s still good! –Kobe Beef Tacos(5⁄5) comes in two and its two I’ll have all to myself next time. This was so good! The beef was almost similar to pork belly which I love. A bit of fat, a bit of meat, dash of flavoring, and voila tender magic! They weren’t cheap on the meat either. –Salmon Sushimi(3.5÷5) decent, not too fishy, but it wasn’t cold enough for me. –Baked Mussels(1⁄5) I could have made my own 10 times better than this. –Yakiniku Don(3⁄5) saucey rice with beef, eh, I could pass this up next time as well. – Tonkotsu Ramen(3⁄5) I judge ramen pretty hard core considering New York has the best ramen ever! This is suppose to be their special ramen, but I didn’t see what was so good about it. I’ve had spicy soy from kata and I’ll just stick with that. I thinks it’s pretty fair to compare to kata, due to the same names on the menu and all. Nothing bad though, waiters gave good service even when we were the last customers. I’ll be back in no time for those amazing Kobe tacos!

Hands down the best sushi joint I’ve experienced so far in Houston area, and what do you know, it’s in Sugar Land! I judge mainly on the quality of their Chirashi. It’s whopping $ 25, but it’s worth every penny. After sooooo many lame and sad Chirashi I’ve experienced in the area, I FINALLY encountered a non-disappointing one. The sashimi amount was generous, pieces were big, quality was good, and super fresh and soft. It came in 2 boxes and it was very satisfying. We had to try their kobe beef taco after reading so much about it. Although too salty for my taste, it certainly was a well designed and well made dish. Beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender and juicy. Each order comes in 2, and the size is pretty filling. The place doesn’t seem very busy which is surprising to me. It is a hidden gem located in a not so busy plaza. If you want some decent and relatively authentic(I say«relatively» because this is still Houston) Japanese food, make sure to pay Mochi a visit.

Don’t waste your hard-earned money on this establishment. One star for the OK service, but that’s it. We came in here on MLK day, a Monday. We perused the menu and noticed that there was a Happy Hour/Lunch Special menu for Mon — Fri 11 — 3 or something like that. Attempted to order from that said menu, but the waiter interrupted us and said, «Sorry. No Happy Hour today because it’s a holiday.» How does that in any way make sense? You discount lunch specials just because it’s a holiday? OK. Ordered from the more expensive, regular menu. Our sushi’s must have taken 40 minutes+ to came out even though we were one of the three customers in the restaurant. PASS. Please, for the love of your wallet, DONOTCOMEHERE. The portions were TINY. SO tiny. There was barely enough rice to cover the roll, and the width of the rice was so thin. I think there were only SIXTINYROLLS for one order. One of the pieces had BARELYANY fish in there, ONLY avocado(pictured). WHATTHEHECK. I didn’t pay for a VEGETABLEROLL. I got a picture of the fish: avocado ratio. You can clearly see that in some pieces, the avocado dominated. As for the fish in the rolls, they were NOT fresh at all. They had a metallic sheen to it, indicating that these fish were not fresh and were indeed, old. I finished the lunch and was still hungry. It was about $ 60+. Please, don’t waste your money on this place. If you have $ 60 to spend, there are better sushi establishments around the area in Sugar Land, for better quality, even if you aren’t full. This place is clearly overhyped. You will get better tasting(fresh) sushi that come in bigger portions at a WAY cheaper price from your local H-E-B. Yup, this place’s sushi cannot even compare to the caliber of sushi from H-E-B.

No. After reading some of the Unilocal reviews, I thought that this place would be a good Japanese restaurant to dine at in Sugar Land. No. Just no. My family and I went on a weekday during dinner time and there were only 2 other parties in there. The servers are both young gentlemen. One of them kept looking at me and smiling. That’s unprofessional and kind of made me uncomfortable. But other than that, they were both really nice. We started out with the soft shell crab– it really just tasted like fried dough to me. We then got 2 rolls– I forgot what they were called but both were average. We also got the spicy soy ramen and tonkotsu ramen. The spicy soy ramen was horrible. It was too sweet and was not even served hot. As for the tonkotsu, I don’t have much say because I didn’t even eat it. I would not come here again.

Mochi Sushi has great food at prices that won’t break the bank. Their ramen is excellent, but could use some variety. There are only two ramen dishes on the menu although it’s one of their main selling points and why I went in the first place. There were two big pluses that gave this resturaunt 4 stars instead of 3. They are one of the few resturaunt a in Houston that serve Orion beer. The original Okinawa Brewed beauty. This beer is close to my heart so it’s a definite plus. Next would be the fact that they carry fresh uni(sea urchin). If you’ve never had uni you are missing out it is the oceans spiked treasure. If you live in the Richmond area it’s defiantly worth checking out. I think the family and I have found a new Japanese spot.

I feel like I’ve stumbled across one of the best kept secrets in my neighborhood, and it’s one that should be shared. I’ve walked by and driven by this place a number of times without being curious enough to try it, so shame on me. Happily that all changed a few months ago. I’m not always adventurous when ordering sushi, but fortunately my friends are, so I’ve gotten out of my comfort zone here and experienced the most amazing sushi — not only will it delight your taste buds, but you will feel as if you’re eating art. The presentation of their food masterpieces is as beautiful as it is flavorful and delicious. I wish I was able to post some of the pictures I’ve taken on here… I’m not sure if I want to eat it or frame it :) The service is always great and Rudy performs magic behind the sushi counter. I’m addicted and cannot recommend Mochi Sushi highly enough. And, they also have great happy hour specials. Guess where I’ll be later today… The only point of concern for me is that once too many people figure out what I’ve finally figured out it may be a lot harder to get in :) How fortunate are we out here in the New Territory area to have Mochi Sushi in our hood?

Mochi Sushi, you get a 3.5 from me. They say«imitation is the sincerest form of flattery,» and I have absolutely no problem with that. In my opinion, the world needs more of whatever Kata Robata’s dishing out! Miso lobster mac ‘n cheese? Hey, the more, the merrier! But is Mochi Sushi really a perfect Kata Robata clone? …Almost, but not quite. First off, the ambiance is completely on the other side of the spectrum — it’s small, casual, and situated in a strip plaza next to Randall’s. That’s not to say it’s a bad thing, but this is definitely more of a casual dinner spot with friends than an intimate dinner date. The menu is very similar to Kata Robata’s — unfortunately, they were out of uni that night, so no Uni King Crab spoons for me. Lobster mac ‘n cheese and yuzu marinated salmon sashimi were both amazing, as usual. Foie gras nigiri –definitely an indulgent must, in my opinion– tasted a little gamier than Kata’s, which was off-putting. We also decided to try something new, Miso Eggplant with Grilled Rice, and immediately regretted it after the first bite. The sauce was way too strong, salty, and pungent — I just couldn’t do it, ugh. Overall, dinner was underwhelming. I know it really isn’t fair to hold this restaurant up to Kata’s excellent standards, but uh… Mochi’s pretty much asking for it. It’s a decent substitute for quality sushi in the suburbs, but as many others have stated — don’t get it twisted. There’s only ONE Kata Robata.

I’m glad we gave this place a second chance. It looks like they finally hired help with the wait staff. The first time we came was on a Friday night and the service was horrible. As everyone else recommends, the Spicy Soy Ramen is delicious. It’s a rich broth, and I slurp every little bit of it to the end. I’ve ordered it togo a few times and they package it very nicely.

It’s a shame that this place waits for their vegetables to grow and raises their meat in the back before preparing each dish. Not really, but it sure felt like it. When you get seated at 1pm on a Sunday, have a waiter keep telling you to hold on until 130pm(when we order), and don’t get served until 220pm, something is wrong. Everything that’s wrong with this place is the efficiency. The food is solid. Came here with the family after seeing an article claiming that this place was an exact replica of Kata Robata. Menu seems to be somewhat altered, but similar items. Foie Gras Chawanmushi: Pretty good. Says a 15 minute wait. Try an hour wait. They did not have uni so they replaced it with foie Spicy Soy Ramen: The noodles were cooked nicely, the add-ins and meat were delicious, and the broth was a tad bit creamy. Decent choice. Shiyo Ramen: I’d choose this one over the spicy soy ramen for the taste of everything in it Puerto Rico Roll: Delicious roll, but pricey($ 16) for 5 pieces. Although, what can you expect when you get fried lobster, spicy tuna, and veggies? Lobster Mac & Cheese: Family ate this, lots of lobster, lots of cheese. The food is very good, but not worth the wait. Maybe after they get up and running for a few years will I ever come back.
