Ordered a steak burrito and all I can say it was the worst burrito ever!!! It didn’t even taste like steak or look like steak. Do yourself a favor and get a burrito at the local gas station before coming here.

Best burritos! Best tacos! Best meat! Friendly staff! Food comes out fantastic and fast! And everything is made homemade! They make sure their customers stay happy! Too many regulars that go in! That’s why I became a regular! I always tip $ 10 once and went back their service was better than the last! It was great service just gets better each time I go back!

I come here for one reason primarily: A burrito. My favorite is the steak burrito with sour cream. The price for these gigantic burritos can’t be beaten and it’s a tradition to stop in after leaving the Chicago area. I’ve been going there periodically for the past decade and they’ve never lowered in quality. Their staff is bilingual for the most part and quite nice. Highly recommend.

I go here on dollar taco days which is Sunday and Tuesdays. Only the steak, fish, and el pastor are for a dollar on Sundays and Tuesdays. I came here about seven times, and only had one time when the tacos were not up to par. I love the steak, and the fish tacos. What else can you get for a buck nowadays? I always wash it down with a large horchata. They also have $ 1 burgers on Wednesdays. This review is for the one on 7200 N. Clark. The one on Madison does NOT have $ 1 tacos.

Horchata is a bit too sweet. The chicken torta is very good. Nice small place. People are very nice and prices are not bad. They have paletas of different flavors, I guess if you want desert. I do think they should have tamarind water.

Not good. Lots of fat in the steak burrito. The guy working the register also had his girlfriend/wife there in a booth with their little kid. The kid was chewing on a glove. Hopefully not one they use to handle food. When I left the cooks were out back smoking. Never again. Worst $ 9.27 I’ve spent for a burrito and large drink. Update. First review ever. I had this burrito at noon and I just puked. Be careful pulling out of there. Summit cops sit right on the corner. There are way better choices.

Not recommend. Unless you like your taco meat burnt and rocks in your beans. I talked to the manager and she told me they couldn’t do anything about it! Really?! Good thing I didn’t feed the beans to my 1 year old!

Very disappointed with my fajita dinner. Beans tasted straight out of a can. Rice tasted like it had sat all day, very dry and bland. However my fiancé enjoyed his burrito. This must be a place you can only order tacos and burritos from. I won’t rely on them to deliver authentic mexican dishes.

Food is always good every time I’ve been there. It’s a smaller restaurant but they get the food out quick and are always welcoming and pleasant. No complaints.

Okay, this is NOT a foodie’s paradise; it’s the aftermath of partying & drinking. The food is only meant to be satisfying. It’s okay; I’ve had better hangover eats but when in the hood, this is a good stop~the owners are SUPERDUPERSWEET!

When this establishment opened around 1986, it almost seemed like an abandoned restaurant due to the loyalty across the street. Then, El Farol’s lack of cleanliness reputation began to spread like wild fire. Young Summit residents like me had no choice but to give El Famous an opportunity. I didn’t have a car so walking was my primary method of transportation. I was not going to bike ride to the city for a burrito. Also, I would not dare to park my bike in front of El Farol or El Famous unless I was seeking to have it taken from me. El Famous impressed me thus I became an El Famous loyalist until about 2002. I did not notice a diminish in quality. However, I did notice superior meat quality from other Mexican taquerias and restaurants that began invading the south west side. Los Comales arrived in Bridgeview, IL and made a gigantic splash. Lucky Burrito made another big splash in Chicago Ridge and Zacatacos joined the fray soon after in Bridgeview. I no longer have to drive to my home town(born in Chicago, raised in Summit) to enjoy tacos, tortas or burritos. Although I see many El Famous burritos all over the Chicagoland area, there are too many better serving Mexican taquerias to choose from. However, in Summit, there’s only one choice for me and that’s El Famous.

I go here religiously… best, largest tacos around. Personally, I feel it’s better than El Faros. Also, MUCH better than all the other locations, especially the West Loop one(pretty bad). Also if you’re in the area, you won’t get stabbed or harassed by homeless people like at El Faro. Definitely recommend. EDIT: While the neighborhood is dangerous for both El Faro and El Famous, it seems likes the dangerous types tend to hang out outside El Faro considerably more often. Both have good food.

Been going here almost monthly since the late 80’s. Still the best burrito in Chicago. No one can duplicate the chicken burrito. I’ve eaten almost ever item on the menu, and everything is good. The chorizo and egg burritos are great for a hang over. No, El Famous is not the same as it was, but still worth stopping in once to try a classic.

This is my «goto» place when I’m hungry for a burrito. I recently tried El Faro down the street and I was disappointed. In reading reviews, it seems people usually love one place and not the other, but never like both. I’ve been to at least 5 El Famous locations and they are pretty consistant on their food and prices are different story. I love that I can get chorizo with eggs whenever, but not at El Faro.

I am betting the 4⁄5 stars reviews for this El Famous are from people who don’t remember when this was an innovation in late night service with awesome food and quirky service. These days the food is crap. I had been going around to a variety of burrito joints these last few years — but when I discovered l could shave 10 minutes off my commute by taking this alternative route — I drove by the El Famous and stopped in. What a mistake. I paid five bucks for a burrito that I wouldn’t feed to a starving toreador. Most burrito joints have that lovely little foil packet with the jalapenos and the hot carrots. Their packets was as big my thumb. Three carrot slices and one quartered jalapeño. This will not do. There are too many good burritos out there — El Farol is right across the street. Stay as far from this crap-shop as you can, people. Life is too short to eat bad burritos.
