Authentic, delicious diner food at a great price. The staff was very friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was great. It was my first time going and I will definitely be back!

I’m a huge fan of this little place in Summit, and its old school self seating style. Great food and not at ridiculous prices. If you’re in town grab some breakfast here. It’s not a big place so don’t show up with more than 2 or 3 friends and be prepared to wait at least 10 minutes. However, it is worth the wait.

The food quality is pretty decent, but it makes for a fairly stressful meal. I’ve been there twice. Most hole-in-the-wall establishments are easy-going, relaxed encounters. But, here you feel rushed. The servings sizes are solid, and the food is so-so. The speed at which you are shuffled in and out does not make for a nice weekend meal. Also, no highchairs, so firmly on the«Not Good for Kids» list.

Hole in the wall? Check! Limited seating? Check! Limited menu posted on the wall? Check! Cash only? Check! Attentive, friendly service? You betcha! Delicious food made to order? Indeed! It’s a smaller old school diner, with the charm of being set in a converted old rail car. They don’t offer the extensive menu of many a diner, sticking with the basics. However, they do offer specials which keep the pickings fresh and invigorated. You get pretty good portion sizes at reasonable prices. The servers, managers, in fact just about everyone seemed so friendly and cheerful. It’s a throwback to old-school diners where you basically order something you’d expect them to have at a diner, and wait for your delicious albeit no frills food to arrive steaming hot at your table. There’s a reason this smaller no frills place is thriving. They’re simply doing things right.

Been coming here since I was a kid. Still the same as it was 15 years ago… amazing! Taylor Ham Egg & Cheese on a roll is a must. Add potatoes if you’re feeling up to the challenge!

Long waiting but was so good. We had the traditional breakfast & was great… very small landmark diner. Oh yes Taylor ham, very New Jersey.

Good food at great prices. Cash only. Where else today can you get breakfast for 2 for under $ 20. The place is always packed. Sometimes you can’t even get a seat by the bar stand. And the wait could be upwards of 40 min. Unfortunately, it cannot be expanded. Most establishments handling food wear gloves but here it’s optional. Hygiene should improve. This old style diner is still 30 years back in décor, other amenities and and hygiene.

First timers will need a bit of local knowledge before frequenting the Summit Diner. I suggest you arrive early as the place is small with limited seating. There is no hostess so you seat yourself. You’ll need to respect that others may be waiting for a booth so if your party is small hit up the counter. There is no formal menu so keep your order simple(i. e. Eggs, breakfast meat, pancakes, etc). If you order Belgian waffles with a flute of champagne you’ll give everyone douche chills. The portions are generous and very reasonably priced. If you eat at the counter, you pay at the register-honor system. Just tell the cashier what you had. Once you’ve learned the rules you’ll be hooked. However if you’re looking for a «Top Chef» restaurant do us all a favor and take your attitude and your appetite to the brunch at the Short Hills Hilton; I’m sure the washroom attendant will be glad to see you.

Good quick cheap breakfast. In old time small train car. Cute. Recommend. Food is basic but big menu for size of place. Standard diner fare.

It’s an outrageous throw back to true greasy NJ dining. The place has honest appeal and the food very tasty. Jimmy is a gem. Will do anything to make u happy. Breakfast rocks

2 strikes just because I haven’t been able to eat here yet. Both times no one even acknowledged us at the door to sit down. Latest attempt — Waitress walking by and smiled, but then sat at the counter and chatted with the cook and the manager was counting his money. If I actually get to eat and find the food good I will edit and upgrade my review.

A classic diner. I try to stop in whenever in this part of north Jersey. It’s very small, so if they’re busy, expect to wait on line. If you’re willing to sit at the counter, you’ll get seated sooner than waiting for a booth, but you may also be right there with the grill, which can get warm. Cash only.

Went on the 1st Sunday after Christmas, the place was packed but we got sit very quick. Service is prompt and friendly. We ordered like tons of breakfast and it was amazing. Love the sausage and omelettes. This place is a must go for good breakfast and they serve it all day.

This place is a true diner experience. The food was true home cooking and delicious. The staff in the diner was a complete hoot. Yelling orders and cursing at it other in Spanish. Hilarious and a great place to enjoy the real«New Jersey». I loved it and will go back. Take cash! They take no plastic.

This place is an institution. Caught a recent breakfast here before taking a train into the city. My server was an absolute doll and got me two sandwiches(one ham/egg/cheese one Taylor ham/egg/cheese) packed up to go in under 5 minutes despite a rush. I have many memories of this place growing up, so nostalgia paired with the classic diner style wins this an enthusiastic thumbs up.

I figured I should check this place out since it’s so unique and has so many good reviews. I took a seat at the counter and was promptly greeted by the server to take my order. I ordered 2 eggs over easy w/bacon. That came with home fries and toast and I had coffee to drink. The portion was huge I ate about half. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the bacon crisp, the home fries delicious. All in all a great breakfast. I would definitely go back.

Been there twice now, for breakfast only. Decent food, okay service(the place is fairly small but only one server). Initially went there because the reviews looked decent. Typical diner food, no complaints. However, the first time I went, something happened for the first time. I didn’t realize that this place is CASHONLY. So when I tried to pay, they wouldn’t take my card. So in a panic, I told the cashier that I may have some cash in my car, parked just outside the diner. A few minutes later, a dude comes out of the diner, finds me searching for quarters in my car, and offers to loan me the money to pay for my breakfast. VERYCOOL! I declined, and was totally appreciative but I had enough quarters to pay the bill. It’s not everyday that one comes across a Samaritan. If nothing else, what makes this diner special are its customers! BZ!

The service is amazing but it can get stretched thin when the place is busy. And it gets busy. They might yell at you if you try to wait at the bar or something silly but don’t take it personally, it’s hard work making amazing diner food. Fantastic for a good diner lunch, with your favorite sandwich and fries(get the sweet potato fries). It’s also likely the best breakfast/brunch place in summit. Get the pancakes with chocolate chips if you want. The French toast and coffee are great too.

Loved this place! My first diner experience in the Diner State. We went on Father’s Day for brunch and the place was full. However, we managed to get a place at the counter really quick and the service was prompt and warm. I would recommend getting the omelettes. I saw the expertise with which the guy made them and let me tell you the guy is a genius eggmaker-if that is even a word. Have never loved my eggs so much before and I know I am definitely coming back!

*CASHONLY* I’m constantly on a quiet quest to find the best omelette I’ve ever had. Summit Diner is the pinnacle. I came here for breakfast last weekend with my wife, and as soon as you see the place, you’re automatically taken aback by how cool it looks. It’s an old railroad car converted into a diner, and the original menu from the 1930’s is still there. They don’t hand out menus — everything is on the wall. You look at the offerings, and place your order. Although it took a while for the food to come out, which I INITIALLY wasn’t a fan of, the quality quickly trumped that thought. The omelette was a classic one: egg whites, American, ham, side of home fries. It was delicious in every way, and sculpted beautifully. The perfect textures, the cheese was fantastically melted, and it was a great portion size. I enjoyed every bite of that breakfast, and for that alone, I’m giving the Summit Diner a 5⁄5. I’d gladly come here any time I’d like a solid, well-cooked breakfast with the feel of a diner from yesteryear.
