Good example of a great hotel, I stayed here a few days on the way to visit some family and the hotel was great, the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating, the rooms were very spacious and clean as all the rooms were suites. The one minor problem I had was that my room key did not work for some reason but the front desk apologized and quickly gave me a new one. The rate was also very fair compared to others in the area. Breakfast was simple but tasty, all things considered this is a great Choice hotel to stay at and I recommend it.

I’ll never stay here again. When one calls their rooms suites, I expect more than a tiny microwave and a mini fridge. Wi-Fi was sub-par. I wasn’t sure how long I was going to be in Sumter, so not wanting to run up my credit card, l paid cash. Big mistake. Was treated like a second class citizen. I had no problem paying up front for that room. Had a problem with being charged on a sliding scale based on the day of the week as opposed the rate I found online. Had a problem putting up an additional $ 162 as a «security deposit». Not wanting to be delayed when I checked out… the day before, I went to the front desk to tell them what time I would be leaving. They said it wouldn’t be a problem. Not a problem for them. A problem for me. When I went to check out, they had to call in someone to check our room even though housekeeping had been in the room each day. The 5 minutes I had planned spending checking out, turned into a half hour. All because I paid cash.

My wife and I stayed here about a year ago while visiting our grandkids. The second shift clerk was as described in the other reviews, I can’t say that I was unhappy to see him gone when we arrived for this stay. I’ve been in a lot of hotels over a period of time and I see nothing here that I haven’t seen anywhere else. The most expensive hotels I have stayed in have the same issues. People will be people. My room is clean, the staff is friendly, and the rate is reasonable. If you’re staying at the Waldorf-Astoria and you get a comfort Inn room, by all means complain. If you’re staying at the comfort Inn and you get a comfort Inn room, be thankful that you paid a comfort Inn price. I dropped a star for the first stay with the night clerk. So far, this stay has been 5 star.

Had two rooms at this hotel… after checkout we were charged $ 162 for smoking in the rooms WHICHWEABSOLUTELYDIDNOT!!! Every front desk employee saw our party EXIT the building and smoke outside NUMEROUS times… just because there was remnants of cigarettes and cigars in the room, not ONE was lit in the room. If we took the time to exit the building and smoke outside EVERYTIME, why on earth would we smoke in the room? So I take it, because we were a group of black males… you are RACIST and ASSUMED we smoked in the room… Check the security video as you watch us exit the building each and every time to smoke. So unless you want to be ROBBED by this hotel and treated like 2nd class citizens that think they can get over on you… do NOT stay here… especially if you are black.

Planned on staying at this hotel for almost two weeks. Part of our big party got there a few days earlier than I did. After the first night, 2 out of the 3 people woke up covered in bite marks. I booked at another hotel along with my party when we arrived because we didn’t want to risk it. The hotel still charged the two people covered in bite marks, too! They reported it and everything. Looking at some other reviews it appears that this is a common thing for them. They really need to get the health inspector to come out and bomb for bed bugs. I wouldn’t stay here and risk it until the management confirms they have taken care of this issue.

Clean rooms, pretty nice selection for complimentary breakfast. Service could use more training. My cousin is a floating pharmacist and when I fly from West Coast just to be with my best friend, I follow him wherever he goes! I’ve done it all– low end, rundown, shady ones where you’re sure your neighbor to your right is a drug dealer and to the left, a hooker. I’ve been to nicest ones(hey, you can’t expect much from South Carolina) with only the business peeps in suits and ties come for meetings and breakfast includes a 15 item buffet. I’ve done many of the forgettable in-betweens, too. Comfort Suites was the higher in-between. Like I said, clean room, great breakfast selection, lots of channels and Wifi. But the customer service is shittier than the rundown, hooker-drug-infested motels I’ve been to! Smiling is definitely something impossible for the front desk clerks. Conversation in person: Me: Hi, just wondering if I can do a late check out today. Front desk: OK… what time? Me: Uhhh(isn’t it usually 3pm late check out?) What is the latest? Front desk: What time do you need? With her looking so annoyed I felt rushed to give an answer. A stupid one. Me: 1pm. Front desk: I’m sorry but I can only give you till 12pm. Now, excuse me but my ghetto is coming out — check out is 11am and she extended to… 12pm… Are you serious? Then why the fuck would it matter what time I needed? What if I said 4pm – would you have said 3pm? Well I admit I fucked up there. I needed 3pm but she made me feel like I was imposing. But c’mon. What type of shady shit did she just pull on me? After an 18 day stay here, I would certainly recommend this hotel to others traveling through Sumter. The breakfast had the standard complimentary fare: coffee, juice, milk; plenty of bread, muffins, bagels and danish; the waffle machine and hard boiled eggs, yogurt, and cereal. Hot items were grits, scrambled eggs and either bacon or sausage. I only tried the bacon or sausage, it’s typical of what you’d expect, nothing amazing. The room(single king) itself was clean and large, with a separate couch. Bed had both hard and soft pillows, and the room had a microwave and small fridge. Free internet was available, I didn’t have any problems but didn’t use the business center. The pool was a decent size, along with a hot tub. The ‘gym’ was a disappointment, with a treadmill, a recumbent bike that was probably 20 years old, and a set of bowflex dumbbells, all in a very tiny room. I was surprised to see a happy hour starting around 5 pm in the breakfast area, where there were peanuts, chips, popcorn, and beer, wine and pop. They staff then bake and leave out Otis Spunkmeyer cookies to take. The staff was friendly and helpful for the most part; when I asked for a good place to eat(other than places like Chilis and Logans Roadhouse) the girl really couldn’t provide any good recommendations. I didn’t expect a few of the extras this place offered, so good job Comfort Suites.

Slow, useless internet. Hot breakfast swimming in grease. Clean, nice if visiting area but useless for business purposes.
