The only good thing to say about this place is that it has a nice view from the back deck. We were there mid-afternoon(between lunch & dinner), and though it wasn’t full there was a lengthy list of parties waiting for tables. If I wasn’t hungry I probably would have found it comical the way the groups were matched to a table number and waitress, as if the staff were working together to solve the world’s most complicated sudoku. It took a lot longer than it should have(30 minutes) to be seated. The service was slow, but the view and beautiful day kept us happy. But the food… Very disappointing, even though I already had a low expectation. It worse than mediocre and it was not cheap($ 12 – 15 meals). Specifically, it was hard to find the chicken in my chicken salad because it had WAY too much mayo. The waitress cleared the plate with a shrug when I explained why I hadn’t eaten my meal. I have no plans to return. Sitting on a lakeside bench with an ice cream would have been a better investment in the same view.

So, it is a year later and I decided to try the Anchorage again. The wait for a table on the deck was pleasant, as we were able to sit at the bar. The food(sorry to say) was not very good. When we pulled up I saw a well known national food company truck off loading lots of what appeared to be frozen food. This speaks volumes, as the food has a cafeteria type taste and is really not very special. Go for the view, not the food.

As others have stated, come for the views and ambience and not for the food. The fish sandwich is good, burgers are fine, but other items not so much. Service is slow and there is often a wait but in my experience the wait staff are courteous and accommodating. Be prepared to wait to be seated and to be served. Nurse your cocktails and enjoy watching the boats and the pissed off Boston tourists.

Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. Although there were several empty tables, we had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated. I am guessing that they were short on help. I had the Haddock sandwich, it was pretty tasteless and the bread wasn’t fresh. My girlfriend had lettuce roll ups and we shared a plate of nachos and two iced teas. 50 bucks including a $ 7.00 tip. Seems quite pricey and truthfully, the food wasn’t that good. The service was poor, towards the end of our meal, the manager and her assistant sat across from us and(rather loudly) conducted a meeting of sorts, and counted up the cash drawer.(they don’t have an office?) The location is great, nice views of the harbor but I’m in no great rush to go back.

I went to the bar with friends for a quick pop. It’s small, but fun. Great décor, good service and good cocktails. I wish it was larger and I’d like to sit outside in the summer and enjoy the harbor. Otherwise, this joint is great.

This is a really great restaurant in a wonderful location. I’ve been here many times and each time my order has been correct, timely, and the service has never been anything less than kind. The food is always fresh – especially the fish. I recommend the burger, haddock sandwich, and the fish and chips. Fish and chips come in a huge size so we usually get the kids portion.

Poor service and the bartender was rude! ordered a drink that was suppose to have Patron and I saw her poor the bottom shelf! For a tourist location, the bar tendar needs an attitude adjustment. food is overpriced, but Great view of lake! Go to Bubba’s, better food and better service, esp the bartenders!

Ok, here’s the thing, I’m giving this a very strong review because I grew up in Sunapee and have since lived in the North End of Boston and Providence, RI– two incredible foodie cities. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why The Anchorage cannot get it together. The town of Sunapee is beautiful in every season but the harbor obviously thrives in the summertime. Wouldn’t common sense be to have restaurants that offer incredible food, fast service, outdoor options, live music, etc? Is this like not the most obvious DUH moment? This should be rant about the Harbor’s inept management where your only food options are overpriced ice cream cones and take home lasagna to heat yourself and The Anchorage, oh The Anchorage. My family STOPPED coming here in about 1997 but a few weekends ago we decided to give it a go again. The service, food and overall ambience is lackluster — at best. Things that should not happen at a restaurant: –15 minutes of sitting at a table to have a waitress come and take your drink order. –Sliding doors closed to music which is inside, inside music, on a beautiful day. Put it on the deck, duh –Plastic on outdoor deck windows. Are we in a fishbowl? Are we trying to die from breathing each others’ stank air? Did all of these things happen at The Anchorage? Yes. Get your stuff together, people. You are THEONLY restaurant in the harbor. Why are you not fixing your menu(no one wants asian-style pasta(it’s called ramen, btw), why are you not training your staff? Why are you not making it more of fun vacation-y party type place? Blind leading the blind in the harbor. FIXIT

Menu was limited and sides were small. Food was good but expected more at those prices.

We live in the area, so have come here before over the years. I keep hoping they will change the menu or step it up a notch. But they don’t. The location is amazing. Probably one of the most beautiful locations in NH. My sense is because of the location, they will always be packed and therefore the need to have truely good food or get a little creative will never happen. Which is lazy. Staff is always nice. They need to shim up the floor in the bar. It’s so badly tilted you are sitting sideways in your bar stool. So great location for a drink, outside on the deck. But everything else about the place looks tired. And I don’t get the sense that the owner cares. Which doesn’t inspire me to spend my money there. Which is sad.

It is a shame the food and service doesn’t live up to the location. This place seems to be mismanaged because staff was trying hard, but the wait for food was long and food was below average.

Unbelievably bad. the food is horrible. If you’re not a local you are not welcome. Do yourself a favor and find something else.

If I could give negative stars, I would. The staff and bartenders are a joke. They would be lucky to get a job at Macdonlds except they are in the middle of nowhere NH. The food was ok but the staff needs to go. Immediately!

As I’m not from NH this was purely a Unilocal!find. We arrived to find a beautiful view overlooking a pristine lake with boats and jet skis in view. Our server was prompt, friendly and helpful. After we took several recommendations from her we had amazing crab cakes, nachos, lobster pasta and a Mediterranean Flatbread that was mind-blowing! The price and ambience were on the money. Why 4 stars? The pasta was slightly overcooked – that dish could have been life-changing. Still delicious. Let me help you: go here and eat!

You cannot beat the view of Lake Sunapee from Anchorage in Sunapee Harbor. They have docks, and you can pull your boat right up to the restaurant. The building is cute, and has changed hardly at all in many decades. It is worth a visit just to see Sunapee Harbor. The food is hit-or-miss, but for the most part they have good fish and sandwiches. The menu is simple, and kid-friendly. If you are looking for high-end fare you will need to go to New London. But for a nice lunch and a beer by the docks in Sunapee Harbor, you cannot beat Anchorage.

Perhaps it was because I had been camping all weekend– sleeping outside, eating dry cereal, and freezing my ass off– but I really enjoyed my meal at Anchorage. We basically decided that we needed real food, hopped in the car, and set the GPS to the closest decent looking restaurant. We sat on the screen patio overlooking the water and had a very pleasant meal. We’ll be back, same time next year!

Go for the view, and not the food. Traditional pub grub with some standards thrown in. Though the beer selection is nice. Tip: Eat on the deck, wait if yo must cuz it is worth it. The inside is sort of stuffy & depressing looking. Great place where the locals and summer folk meet. Live music most nights. Sad is that close after Columbus day for the season.

I have been coming here for years and i have only seen two trends. prices going up, quality going down. By no means a bad place to eat, just not what it could be or more importantly what it used to be. Last time i ordered jumbo shrimp(5 pieces) and honestly was average in taste. My girl ordered salmon and thought it was fine. Nothing above and beyond. Waterfront dining is still enjoyable though. Overall pricey. And I remember the woman at the front being unwelcoming and abrupt. Simply put: a few improvements and the anchorage could be a great place
