The aftermath of Hurricane Sandy was disruptive of my week’s plans, ergo forcing me to make contingency plans. Without gasoline to spare in a friend’s car, we scratched our walking trails along Fort Totten and opt-in for at home movies and dinning-in with some wine. A $ 4.99 bottle of Gallo Family, California 1933 White Zinfandel was our choice at Sunnyside M&W Spirits, a local liquor store that carries basic alcohol. Staff is present only as robots to ring patrons, by choice, to remove themselves from the customer service/informative knowledgeable equation.

It’s not Lowery’s( ) but it’s a nice liquor store that has it’s own selection in a smaller setting. Bill’s is operated by a nice Korean man who may seem guarded at first, but will warm up once he knows you’re serious about finding something in the store. Just ask him for a certain type of bottle and he’ll be quick to point you in the right direction. Most of the popular hard A is located behind the counter where the owner sits, not in a tangible space like in most liquor stores I’ve seen. While Bill’s has a decent inventory of wines, there is a real good variety of sakes and soju in the refrigerator. He’s probably got a better stock of Asian alcohol than some of the Korean grocery joints in the hood. Prices are modest here, nothing crazy expensive but finding a deal here would come down to specific brands. Regardless, Bill’s a great neighborhood option for liquors of variety.
