This is not just a juice bar. The last time I checked, I was able to order grilled chicken breast with a side salad, rice and beans, and sweet plantains and not only have enough for dinner, but also have enough for lunch. Tasty and for just $ 12.50– or $ 6.25/meal– how could I not be a fan?

I’ve searched far and wide for the perfect cholado – some have an odd mix of fruits others too much milk etc. Pecas Y Mas’ cholados are what other places strive to be. They are simply the best in Queens. Perfect amounts of milk, ice and juice; a harmonious blend of fruits; and always made the same. Their food is also made to order, pretty good and cheap. The place is small, so seating isn’t always easy; and they have little staff, so they’re busy, busy(they might forget your coffee) but always polite.

This place pretty much captures all that is amazing about Queens. Nevermind I’ve walked by Pecas y Algo Mas for years, today I noticed arroz con pollo(rice with chicken) was a special and couldn’t resist. It was absolutely delicious! I know arroz con pollo is sort of the Latin American equivalent of bi bim bop or pad thai – a dish made of what is essentially(or at least originally) the leftovers, but I’ve had my share of so-so arroz con pollo. Pecas’ is packed with fresh veggies and loads of chicken and the seasoning is just right. I got it to go and an enormous serving came with a small salad and a sweet plantain for $ 10. One order fed me for two days(and I still have a bit left!) I also had a Carrot & Orange juice. At $ 5 it was a splurge, but they have plenty of other less expensive fresh juices. Pecas y Algo Mas is my new favorite Sunnyside spot. Great little restaurant with fresh food and friendly service.

Highly recommended Colombian hole-in-the-wall. While there’s probably no more than 4 seats on the inside, you also have the option of sitting at the outdoor serving counter — a great place for crowd watching. There may be a bit of a language barrier, but the warmness of the female owners and chefs comes through regardless. They work very hard and always have a smile for you! The mini tipico is scrumptious(particularly the beans) but save some space for the Colombian hot dog! If there’s a shortage of seats, take your food«to go» and walk to the park half a block away. If you are up for some no-frills«Abuela’s» home cooking, in a warm, low key, atmosphere this is highly recommended.

Cholado has been acquired! It’s just OK! Tasty, but not mindblowing.
