Pronto Car Service

If I could leave 0 stars, I would. Scheduled an early morning pickup to go to the airport and they DID NOT SHOW UP. No. phone call. Nothing. Just didn’t show.
I will never bother using them again, and if you don’t care to be stressed out when you need to get somehwere, I suggest you don’t bother either.

first time I used them.
I booked a 7 AM pickup the day before. Called them the day of pickup at 5AM and the guy knew about and confirmed my reservation. The car did not show on time. I called again and the guy made up some pitiful story about how the street was closed in my area (He lied. I live on the top floor — I can see the streets from my window– and as we finally drove away, there were no street closings anywhere).
the car showed up 20 mins late. I complained to the driver that he was late and he said Pronto only just called him to pick me up 10 mins before. WTF??? I booked in advance. They had plenty of time to set up a driver for me.
they quoted me $ 26 + 10% surcharge to use a credit card (is that legal??). So basically, I paid upfront. Too bad Pronto did not pass this information on to the driver who was expecting me to pay him cash. I had to wait for the driver to call Pronto to confirm that I had paid. This on top of being 20 mins late from the start.
lots of rudeness from them and excuses about the car. The whole point of a car service is to get you someplace on time.

This was the first time I used Pronto car service, it will be the last time, & I DO NOT RECOMMEND this company to anyone.
I arranged a 4:45AM pickup from Queens to Penn Station for my Amtrak train travel. When I called the day before to ask for price & availability, I was quoted $ 26 for the ride. When I called later that same evening to book the reservation, I was quoted $ 27 by someone else (cash pymt — I didn’t entrust my credit card # to them).
Five minutes before my pickup time on the day of departure, a dispatcher called to tell me the driver was running 5 minutes late & asked how much I was quoted for the price (it would be reasonable to expect a legitimate company to keep appropriately details records of their reservations with information like that). When I told her I was quoted $ 27, she hemmed & hawed a story about how I was given the wrong information & that it would cost «$ 30…or more.» I could understand trying to get a few more bucks out of me, but the «or more» was a deal breaker. I told her to cancel the reservation, then began working to find a replacement service.
Before I could call anyone a few minutes later, she called back & said the driver was willing to take me for the original $ 27 that I was quoted. What does that have to do with the driver? Isn’t it the company that sets up prices & the drivers just do their job to transport ppl? Skeptically, I agreed since the driver had shown up & I already lost 15 minutes of precious travel time… If I missed my Amtrak train, that was it, there wasn’t another one I could take in its place, it’s not like the LIRR where there are trains available every hour.
The driver wasn’t friendly (or helpful) but he was quiet & did get me to the station in time, so I did tip him appropriately. BUT I WOULD NOT USE PRONTO AGAIN & I WOULDN’T ADVISE ANYONE ELSE TO DO SO EITHER. Too many scam operations going on these days!

I really liked them the first few times that I used their car service. But recently their customer service has gone downhill.
I used them to pick up/​drop off my family from the airport. Keep in mind that this was 7 trips so they have earned a lot of money from us.
Not only that, they’re the service I call when we need one to drop us off to Astoria
Incident #1: my dad’s driver argued with my sister when she was paying saying that he had to wait 30mins for my dad (he’s flight was delayed). When I called them to schedule the day before, the dispatcher that wrote down the job said that they check the flights first if it was delayed or not before they send out cars to pick up.
Incident #2: Some of the drivers need to know basic English when talking to passengers. The driver who took my bf to the airport didn’t give the right amount of change to my bf and when my bf was trying to tell him, the driver couldn’t understand — driver spoke Spanish.
Incident #3: Called for a pick up from a place in Astoria. The driver that called and said they were waiting, was not at the location I specified. I called the driver 2x and no answer. I called the dispatcher, and boy was she rude and saying that she repeated the directions 2x when I first called them. Yes I repeated it twice and never did I say 30^th Ave (where the driver was waiting).
On the flip side, their drivers are on time. They only need to know how to provide good customer service.

I’ve been using Pronto for years and they have really gone downhill with reliability. A few weeks ago I called in the morning for a cab to work and they told me that it would be 5 – 6 minutes (which usually means 10 anyway). 15 minutes later I called back and was told it would be «just 2 more minutes» because they were busy. 10 minutes later I finally gave up and was able to catch a yellow cab — which was cheaper anyway. I understand that they were busy, but they should give more accurate estimates when you first call. I’ve almost stopped using them completely because this has happened a number of times recently. However, I am giving 2 stars because I have had better luck when arranging a pick-​up in advance (i.e. to the airport).

Knowing I wouldn’t want to take the G train on New Year’s Eve, I called around 7pm to ask for a quote on how much it would cost for a car from Park Slope to Forest Hills. I explained it would be for later tonight, so I wasn’t ready to make a reservation right then. The person on the phone told me it would be $ 40, which is a little expensive but whatever. At around 2:30am I call back to arrange for a car to pick me up. After giving the address, the person on the phone replies «We’re in Queens.» That’s it. I explain that I had called earlier for a quote and the person on the phone did not say anything about not servicing Brooklyn. The person I’m talking to just says again that they’re in Queens and won’t come to Brooklyn. I understand New Year’s is a very busy night for car services, but seriously? Saying that they don’t service Brooklyn is a flat-​out lie! Even other reviews on Unilocal talk about getting picked up in Brooklyn. If they had said that all of their cars were already reserved, I would be fine– but lying about not servicing an area I got a quote for just a few hours ago is ridiculous. If they knew they would be overwhelmed, the person I talked to initially to get a quote should have told me I needed to reserve a car early. If I ever need a car service again, I’ll be going with another company.

So far so good. I used Pronto last time I went to LGA — the guy at dispatch is friendly, prices are much better than the other local companies I use, driver service was good and on time, and they take CC.

Great service! I used their website to schedule a ride, and asked for a quote ahead of time. They called me later with the quote, $ 22 for a trip from Sunnyside to Manhattan, very reasonable. They were on time and took the fastest route into the city.

This is my one-​and-​only friendly go-​to place when I need a car service in Queens. I live in Sunnyside and I use them every time I need a ride to Laguardia. They are polite, prompt, affordable, and have never let me down. I usually call the night before for some crazy crack of dawn, 6 am flight I thought I was brilliant for booking 3 months ago, then I roll out of bed and into my awaiting carriage. It’s like I’m Cinderella — except it’s not midnight, it’s 5 am, and instead of my fairy-​godmother makeover, I look like someone tapped me with an ugly stick.
