Friendly cashier and fast service That said I’ve only ordered the chicken teriyaki plate since it’s my go-to plate for Japanese places. For the chicken teriyaki, I felt that the chicken was too salty and there was not enough fire grill taste I haven’t tried the sashimi but based on other reviewers, if I did, I’d be only giving two stars

I am really sad to write this but, I feel a bit ripped off. Short Version: Pros: Super friendly, fast, and polite cashier. Cons: Extremely small portions, sloppy presentation, frozen sashimi, over-priced. Overall: Service: 4⁄5 Cleanliness: 3⁄5 Presentation: 1⁄5 Food: 1⁄5 Long Version: I came in today for a quick lunch before driving up to SF. The cashier was super friendly and nice and service was fast, which is why this is a 2-star review and not a 1-star. That said, I ordered the Sashimi Deluxe combo, and an order of Salmon, Yellow Tail, and Unagi Nigiri. I also had 2 bottles of water, and a soda. The total came to $ 37.15 with tip $ 45.15. I expected to walk out stuffed and satisfied. Unfortunately, when the sashimi came out, I was shocked to see how petite is was, I mean this was supposed to be the«deluxe». The fish was very thinly sliced and some pieces were frozen. It became clear to me that all of the fish was kept frozen and was no where near fresh. The nigiri was alright but lacked skill or presentation. The place itself appeared clean, however the cashier used the same rag to wipe the seats as the table tops, so that’s kinda gross. There was no one in the besides myself until towards the end of my «meal»(read: snack). As people came in to order I noticed that everyone ordered chicken teriyaki rice bowls, and I regretted my decision to stop here. All in all, I have had better sushi/sashimi at Safeway, I will not be back again.

Very clean restaurant. Staff is very receptive and attentive. Great choice of sushi! You can never go wrong with the California roll. If you like sushi you will LOVE it after this

Thought to try it out but didn’t enjoy the food. I had the rice curry and Philly roll, subbed with raw salmon instead of smoked. The customer service was very nice but the food was subpar. The curry was too salty; I couldn’t eat it. The rice was stale. The roll wasn’t well made, some parts of the roll had more ingredients and some parts less. Display was lackluster but I wouldn’t have cared of the food tasted well. The taste was just not worth the cost, $ 20 for lunch! Afterwards, I had to go next door for a bagel.

Portions are ridiculously small for the price and sushi preparation is far from being decent. My first and last time eating here for sure.

Java Sushi is really close to work so very convenient. I’ve been eating sushi here for about 4 years. Parking can be busy around noon, so try to get there a little early. Food is good, price is good, service is very good. Good place to drop in or take out for lunch!

The avocado in a roll was brown. The crab meat was rancid, not inedible, but rancid. Avoid this restaurant at all costs. Veer to Subway. Cheaper. More. Eat Fresh. The second worst Sushi place in the Valley

Out of convenience, I decided to check out this place for the first time despite the low reviews on Unilocal. After all, how bad can one screw up chicken teriyaki? I can honestly say that I have never had a worse experience from a Japanese restaurant before. The chicken tastes rubbery, and the flavor, intense salt. I ate a lot of rice to compensate for the saltiness. The salad tastes old, like the general décor of the restaurant. I will never come to this place again. Just absolute horrible cooking.

This place is close to my company and I usually had my lunch there. The food is not great but not bad, either. The service is good, deserving a four-star rating.

This is a great sushi place if you want sushi better then a supermarket that is reasonably priced. Not my first choice for sushi but good for lunch or a reminder of sushi. I always get the tempura roll(its crazy simple and has rice as filler) and the California roll(can’t mess that one up). The dragon roll is definitely lacking, so I stoped getting that one.

I really dislike this place but will give it two stars since the people are nice. Their sushi is gross, and I can only imagine that the food would be enjoyed by people that don’t eat good food normally. If you can appreciate good sashimi, this place is a huge no no! Nothing tastes fresh, small portions, expensive. No thanks.

What the hell is wrong with all the people who gave this place negative reviews? Pros: Immaculate in the cleanliness dept Friendly service pretty or gorgeous server Mia Food was great for lunch and excellent prices!!! We ordered 3 rolls and some nigiri(I need to try bento next time everyone was having it and finished every last bite) the spicy salmon roll was my favorite! Yum!!! Lots of parking Easy to find They even have my burnt brown rich tea only in real Japanese restaurants!!! Cons: short hours!!! Wish I could have dinner here! But I get out at 7pm :(( I’m definitely coming back for more!!!

I eat here whenever I’m in the neighborhood. Food is great and reminds me of my mom’s cooking from back in the day. I don’t really know what these other bad reviews are about because I’ve been coming here for years and service has always been great and the fish has always been fresh! I recommend their hot ramen, spicy tuna rolls, and their sashimi.

This is a hole-in-the-wall Japanese lunch counter. It’s very much like the places I used to frequent growing up in Hawaii. The food is solid lunch fare. Not elegant, just good food. The sushi is about what you’d expect from a lunch counter. The service is about the best I’ve been able to find in the area.

Tempura udon was nothing but half baked noodle in hot salty water. Expresses a minor complaint but the server said my party’s taste is particular…

I call this a fake Japenese restaurant! The only thing Japanese is the Saporo beer, and that’s even made in Canada.

I remember eating here a few years ago. I just had the usual Teriyaki Bento and California Roll. It was pretty disgusting, an embarassment to Japanese Food, and the service was lacking in professionalism and common courtesy as well. Save your time and do not eat here! I’m surprised this place is still open.

Even though I saw all the crappy reviews I still ate here. First things first. No hot waitress what a shame. I would have gave it another star. I had ordered the sashimi which came with 4 different types of fish 1)Tuna 2)yellow tail 3)salmon 4)white tuna? I had also ordered a roll too, but I can’t remember the name of it, but I do have a picture. Please see how crappy the roll was. Here is my advice to this place. If your going to sell crappy food. At least have good service and refill my water. Story: I walked in and sat down to this really sticky table. You know its bad when your long sleeves stick to the table. Waitress asked for my order so I asked her give me 2 of the best rolls that people order. I can’t believe people order these things I was dumb founded. After I got my sushi roll the waitress was no where to be found. Well I did see where she was and I think she was flirting with this guy … that poor bastard I can tell he wanted her to go away, because of all of his one word answers. ANYWAYS after I had finished my sushi… I don’t know why. I had to wait probably about 20 mins to get my bill. Keep in mind she is still flirting with that guy and the owner gave me the bill. I still tipped because I know how it feels to be rejected by human beings I felt bad for her. Overall I won’t come back.

I love sushi, and have rarely found a place that was not at least passable to me. Until now. It is not grand and fancy, but I have not found that to be a deterrent to good food. It looked clean and when we first walked in not overly crowded. We were allowed to pick our table and given menus. Though all of the items were standard fare, there were no explanations of the ingredients like you usually get; one place’s Dragon Roll can be different from another so I was a little surprised. We ordered green tea, pot stickers, edamame, spicy tuna roll and the No-Name roll, which was supposed to be a spicy salmon with avocado, tempura deep fried. When the hot tea came out it was not what I expected; instead of green tea we something that smelled very unpleasant, reminiscent of an industrial walk in refrigerator. When the server came back we asked what it was and was told it was Brown Rice tea. I told her that I did not care for the way it smelled and she asked if I wanted something else. I declined and waited for my pot stickers. The pot stickers and endamame arrived several minutes later(by now the restaurant was filling up and there seemed to be only this woman and one other server.) the pot stickers were bland but okay; the edemame was overcooked and mushy. When our main course arrived we were puzzled by the contents of the rolls. The No Name was supposed to have salmon, but the fish in it was unidentifiable, pale and not at all pink. My dining companion said that it did not taste at all like fish and the texture was all wrong. My spicy tuna roll was different from anything I had had before, too. The spicy sauce tasted like barbeque sauce, the fish was cut into small cubes and was very dark in color, like a slug. The overall taste, while not really offensive, was not good. After eating a few pieces each we both decided that we could not eat this meal and started looking for our server. After ten minutes of trying to catch her eye the server came over. When I told her that the food was not good her reply was«You have not liked it since you came in; I will take half off.» and then she walked away without giving us a chance to discuss the problem. We were both willing to pay for the appetizers, however she gave us no opportunity to work that out. After a considerable wait she placed the bill on our table and walked away. Feeling that we were not going to get her to come back any time soon we got up to pay at the counter. It turns out that the same woman was working the counter as well. We asked her to split the bill between our cards and she immediately said there was a $ 10 minimum on cards… which we would have met had the food been acceptable, but at it was we would be three dollars short each. We tried again to talk to her about our experience and she replied«I can’t talk about this now, not today. I have already taken half off so it is done.» One can get bad food from time to time anywhere. One can find rude service from time to time anywhere. But when the two are combined the result is extremely disappointing. Was our food prepared incorrectly, or was it their usual fair? We will not know because she would not discuss it with us. The restaurant missed an opportunity to have constructive feed back and only ended up with disgruntled customers that will not return and will advise others to stay away.

My sashimi was… crunchy. It was still frozen in some parts and room temperature in others, so I’m a little confused. I was silly enough to come by this place before checking Unilocal and paid the price. Boo.
