If you like good quality kebabs and fresh salad, this is a place you should try. Ample parking space across street(Macy’s parking space-second floor was empty). I ordered the seafood kebab. It was very good. Quantities are big; good quality; sergeants are quick and willing to serve with pleasure. Great ambiance. I had hot tea with my meal. The were asking often if I wanted to get refills. Always with great positive attitude.

10 years after my initial review, I had an unexpected Friday afternoon lunch here(with the same co-worker! Even though we don’t work together anymore) at the new location. It is just as delicious as I remember. I’m cracking up because I think we ordered the same exact dishes I wrote about back in 2006(lamb kabobs, and mantu — the dumplings topped with yogurt). This location, unlike the previous El Camino Real building, is surrounded by large companies(Broadcom and LinkedIn are nearby) so you definitely want to get here by at least 11:30 if you want to avoid crowds.

This is first ever Afghan restaurant I have ever tried in my life. I’m not really an adventurous eater when it comes to trying new ethnic foods. However my coworker insisted that I would like this place! Both times I’ve been here, I’ve ordered the beef entrée(option #1 under the entrees section). I think it’s about $ 12-$ 13 for lunch. The meal comes with a salad in the beginning. I can’t tell what they put in the dressing but it is pretty yummy! Seems mayo based with dill? Maybe. Not too sure. The meal also comes with bread, rice, and cubes of beef on a skewer(which the waiter takes out for you). The meat tastes like chunks of steak meat to me. I would say ask for the beef medium rare because I ordered it well done and there were some burnt parts lol! Ask for the yogurt and mint(spicy) sauces and mix them together to eat with your meal!

Wonderful! Just wonderful! I have no idea why it took me so long to finally try Kabul, when I absolutely love Afghani food, but better late than never. I tried the combo kabob plate(skewer of lamb skewer of chicken) which included rice, barbari bread, and a nice salad to start with. I also ordered Kadu which I have not had in years and adore. The meat was cooked perfectly, such tender lamb and delicious chicken grilled. Love the rice spiced so nicely, and the bread was so soft and fresh, maybe the best barbari bread I have ever had anywhere. The kadu was beyond delicious(kadu is sweet pumpkin chunks with a yogurt and meat sauce over them). I had Afghani tea and water, and my glasses did not get lower than halfway empty before being refilled by the excellent waitstaff! We will definitely go back for sure.

We landed up here since we didn’t get a table at the nearby indo Chinese restaurant. This turned out to be great as well. Their delectable array of meats, the juicy portions, the mouth watering aroma, all worked wonder for our senses. We had lamb seekh kababs and a chicken gravy item. We had a few vegetarians with us, except the pumpkin dish, the other cauliflower dish we took wasn’t so great. But the remaining items were up to expectations.

Had lunch there recently and the food continues to be good, but the kitchen is slooooow. Took close to an hour to get our food, and the wait staff was less friendly than inmates at a maximum security prison. The prices have gone up since the last time I was there, so not only was this a slow lunch, but an expensive one, too.

Great Afghan place for dinner! Possible the best kabob place in the area.

Perfect! Great food. I ordered mentar chellow, seems like the meat has been marinated for a long time in best quality. the rice was perfectly cooked, not over, not under. and for that price really great deal.

The lamb and beef were cooked very well, and the mandu was pretty good too. The food came out pretty fast and the wait wasn’t too bad. Portion sizes are good.

I just left this place to look for another one to eat. My friend and I went to eat there and there was 6 people standing without a line, I asked them and they said we we don’t know how long it takes and nobody took our names. I talked to one of the servers and asked him if there is a names’ list and he ignored me and turned around. I had the worst experience in my life, they suck!

Afghan food is very foreign to me. But I’m always up to try it when I come across it. A friend recommended this place and I was excited to try it. I don’t hang out in downtown Sunnyvale very often even though I live in the area. So nice to know this place existed. Afghan food is actually really similar to lots of middle eastern food. My friend made a reservation but on a weekday night, we didn’t really need to have one. Parking is street or the Macy’s parking structure across the street. Anyways they have beer and wine, which is nice. For food, we started with the mantu appetizer, which are dumplings or ravioli. Pretty good and they’re also topped with like a salsa and additional meat. For our entrees, I think we both got lamb. I had the karaie, which is chunks of lambs served in a sauce with the seasoned rice. The lamb was tender and still fall apart delicious. Really good and a huge portion so I ended up taking half of it home. Also they brought this flatbread for the table — but it was not great, kinda flavorless and dry. They have so many choices, I will have to come back and try other stuff. Finally we were the last ones sitting inside at 9:30 but they were already cleaning up and they don’t even close till 10. So we left anyways. Haha.

Came here for a date night since the bf raved about his meal here a couple months ago. I was surprised to see that downtown Sunnyvale’s been transformed! There was no street parking left so we had to park in the garage. I can imagine how crazy it’ll be when the apartments and other retail stores open. The restaurant was pretty packed at night so I would suggest making a reservation. We ordered the seafood platter & kebab-e-teka(beef kebabs). Our food took quite awhile to come out because of the full house and I noticed the large party in the corner was still receiving their dishes. The green dipping sauce is spicy so watch out! My beef kebabs weren’t of the best quality, it was tough and on the dry side. I smothered the green sauce on it to give it the illusion that it was juicy. The rice is soooo fragrant and tasty though! My bf’s seafood platter was so good. The giant prawns were my favorite. The fish was a little dry. Overall a very nice place and good meal. Next time I would want to try their appetizer sampler… They sound delicious!

One of my favorite restaurants in the bay area. The dining experience felt complete without the heavy price tag. I think it was ideal to handle this meal in more of a family-style setting so that both the excellent meat and vegetarian options could be surveyed. –Bulanee: Perhaps the turnovers themselves were not the most exciting, but they did come with yogurt and a spicy chutney-like sauce that was delicious to incorporate with the rest of the meal. –Combination kebabs: These were among the juiciest pieces of chicken and lamb that I have encountered. The rice and bread accompany are sure to fill any deficiencies. –Vegetarian platter: The offerings here(cauliflower stew, sauteed spinach, and sauteed pumpkin) cover a nice spread of tastes. Perhaps on the smaller portion-side. Each component has about 4 – 5 good bites to it. –Firnee: I thought this was the best dessert option. Baklava, ice cream, and fried dough are pretty common place elsewhere, so this was somewhat unique. Easily shareable with 2 – 4 people, and has a light feel to it that helps with concluding a meal.

Recently, I’ve been enjoying food that are outside of cultural norm. I’m not afraid to try out new food and Middle Eastern food is what’s currently in my taste buds. I’ve tried Persian the day before and now Afghan! We came here about an hour before it closed so parking wasn’t hard to find. It was my first time around the area so I was hoping there was parking nearby and luckily, there was street parking right in front of this restaurant My initial thought of this restaurant when I walked in was WOW! As soon as you walk in, they have this stack of wine neatly piled on the wall. We were seated near the window and the table was beautifully set up. I ordered the karaie which reminded me of some dot of Filipino dish my dad made. The rice was generously proportioned. The bread that came with it was also tasty. Unfortunately, I didn’t finish it because I was too full after devouring my meal. The customer service was great too! They were very friendly and accommodated all our needs. I have to say, it was a bit pricey so be prepared to spend around $ 20 for a meal.

This place was recommend to me by a friend. At first, I thought this was a small mom and pop shop. Boy was I wrong. Nice dining area, staff was really attentive and nice. I would come here again just to try the their dessert. Elephant ears with pistachio ice cream. Chef Platter as appetizers 3 items came with. MANTU– Ground meat filled in dumplings tastes and looks like lasagna. PAKAWRA– Battered fried eggplant SAMBOSA-E-GOUSHTI — Fried dumpling stuff with meat and potatoes. Similar to Samosas. In my opinion this platter is definitely not the most healthy but full of flavor. Main Entrée: Kabuls combination Kabab(Lamb and Chicken) with the seasoned rice. Not a fan of the season rice. Only bc j don’t like cinnamon. The lamb was delicious and didn’t taste gamey at ALL. The chicken was a little dry. I love smoothening every bite with NAANTAR– Yogurt with chopped cucumber and mint. Along the side with the green hot sauce. That reminds me of chimichurri sauce, but it’s not and more on the spicy side. Holy Moly! They’ll give you a whole bowl. I can eat that sauce with anything.

Came here for a team dinner after spending the past 8 hrs cooped up in a conference room with them. Not gonna lie, but my first reaction that we were going to eat dinner here was not good. I had kebabs many times before so can’t imagine it to be all that different than what I can grill at home. Since we had a big party, we pretty much ordered many of the things on the menu that I wouldn’t have tried. Case in point was the Kadu which was a pumpkin topped with yogurt and meat sauce. Who would have known a Jack O’ Lantern can taste so good? The Buranee Badenjan was also delicious but then again how can you go wrong with eggplant? I ordered the Seafood Combo which was a kabab of 4 extra large prawns and a kabab of 2 salmon cubes which was perfectly seared. Both was absolutely delicious and portions were not puny in any sense like most kabab places. I looked around and everyone’s plate looked really appealing. I can definitely see why this restaurant fills up quickly especially being in a new apartment complex area in Sunnyvale. The restaurant staff was quick to keep all the glasses topped off the entire time and was quite attentive to everyone in this nicely decorated establishment. We ordered every single dessert option so I was fortunate to be able to try everything but my favorite had to be Afghani Ice Cream which had such an aromatic taste that was incredibly unique. If you like Baklava, i’d pick the one at Athena Grill over this place tho. Definitely coming back and eating here again. There are so many other animals left to try…

Hmm not sure why they moved all the reviews from the old space to the new one. I mean the pix and even the menu is somewhat different now. The space is obviously new and sleek. Not being hidden behind Jack in the Box is great too. The Chopandaz, mantu and Murg are as good as I remember. However the butternut squash appetizer is no longer there. There’s a fried potato dish with the same yogurt meat sauce however. A reliable Afghan meal as always

Kabul has got it all when it comes to trying ethnic Afghan food! Disclaimer: this place is unlike any Afghan restaurant that I have been to. Fancy, upscale, and a place you might want to celebrate your elderly grandparents’ anniversary at. Despite these differences, the food here is amazing! My friend and I ordered a combination meat style kabob plate, while I ordered the seafood kabob plate. Both were so yummy! Every piece of meat, be it land crawling or ocean swimming, was ridiculously tasty; I still cannot decide which plate I liked better. I am also a fan and always will be a fan of Afghan rice! The long grain and marinated taste associated with the rice is something I could eat forever. I believe all the meals come with some form of complimentary bread, and you can ask for chutney if you would like(that may be kind of spicy to some). Overall, I believe it costs like $ 15 before tip and tax per meal(roughly), but I would fully recommend eating this ethnic food! Just be warned that is looks more like an upscale restaurant than what I am used to seeing in Afghan places! Bön appetit! :) Pro-Tip: Maybe it was just me, but this place was really hard to find! I think they have moved locations, so if you’re familiar with the older location, you may be saddened to find that it may not be there anymore. However, it is now located in a nicer downtown Sunnyvale area! Good luck finding it!

I came with a group of coworkers and had a reservation for 8 for Friday lunch. We only had 7 people, so they were kind enough to rearrange all the chairs and remove one of the extra sets before we were seated without being told to do so. After we had ordered our food, we started with a complimentary salad. Next was the Aushak and Mantu appetizers. The Mantus were quickly devoured while the Aushaks were not as popular. I ordered the Qabili Pallaw, which was seasoned lamb covered by a huge mound of rice. The lamb tasted decent, but I really enjoyed my coworker’s lamb kebab. The pallaw was quite filling and I felt stuffed after finishing it. The service here was superb.
