This truck is why I decided to get on the Unilocal train. So delicious but I also love supporting local. I was skeptical at first about the idea of a food truck but this place is so yummy! The texture of the fried chicken is to die for. I have to keep myself away but I probably won’t. Because it’s that good. Check it out people

I mean, for starters, it is food on a truck – that means they bring the restaurant closer to where you are. Winning! I now anticipate when this will be over at the Hillier Aviation Museum, so I can get my fix. My general MO is to bring my lunch to work, and even when I do, if The Waffle Roost is out, I just have to test the shelf life of my ‘would have been’ lunch. Chicken and Waffles is always good, but this truck offers a number of different choices that I really appreciate. More interested in a bite-size form factor? They’ve got you covered. Want double of one side or the other? Check. Crispy, golden, delicious? Check, check, check. My go to here is the Bite-Size combo and I am partial to the Mac and Cheese. Have also have the full two piece option and all are great. The two times I have been, quality has been consistent, which is important with a food truck. Between the number of choices and the overall greatness, you should check this truck out if it’s nearby. First food truck I now seek out since moving to CA.

We were at the Hiller Museum and the 2Legit combo was perfect for my son and I to share. That, and the regular French fries. The chicken was boneless and tender.

Firstly, Never never never never HAVE I Ever had fried chicken this good in my entire life. I tried the food truck at an «Off the Grid» food trucks night here in Hayward, CA and the«Waffle Roost» intrigued me. I hear a lot about waffles and chicken, but have yet to actually pull the trigger on trying it. I walked over, fully anticipating to take part in the waffles and chicken, however, the menu item, «Soultry Poultry» caught my eye and before I knew it, I was yelling through the window that I would love to try it. The«Soultry Poultry» comes with two sides, collard green and mac n cheese, and then the main star of the show, two boneless fried thighs. Secondly, when I got the container and opened it to smell it, «OMG!!!» It smelled so good. Then the look of the food was beautiful. The chicken was golden and light and crispy and not oily. The greens were sceaming my name, and the mac and cheese was gooey! I put a little bit of their house made vinegar sauce on the lot of the food and headed home to enjoy the pot o gold I just found. Got home, took one bite of the chicken and fell hopelessly in love. To the tune, that it is ALL I can think of and I am now stalking their food truck, hoping for a time that they may return to Hayward, or at least within a 25 mile radius of wherever I may be at a given time. Lastly, CHECKEMOUT! They rule! btw, the collard greens were just plain amazing! I didn’t like the mac n cheese. I am thinking it may have just been that I was really full after I ate the chicken and greens and pretty much had to force the mac n cheese down. It seemed like it tasted good, but once it got a bit cold, it becomes a little: chewy: No big deal. Next time, I eat the mac n cheese before the greens. lol.

We ordered a I’m spicy and I know it. Nothing spectacular, nothing bad! Just an average tasting chicken and waffle to me. The syrup was really good though! –Edmund We shared the ‘I’m spicy and I know it’ and the waffle and chicken didn’t taste like anything spectacular. It wasn’t that spicy either. If you’re around the truck, it doesn’t hurt to try it out! 3 stars from Edmund. 3 stars from Kristen.

Perfectly fried chicken bites — moist inside, crunchy outside, tender. Waffles werent bad either. Can take a bit of a wait to make the food but worth it, food is piping hot fresh.

Tried this truck at an Off the Grid event. Big fan of the chicken and waffle combo so this was my kind of truck. I ended up getting to The Stack. It’s a chicken sandwich with bacon, a fried egg and a split waffle as the bread. There’s a little bit of honey or syrup drizzled over it and it came with sweet potato chips. I could only finish half of it but mostly because I wanted to try other stuff at the event. It was quite delicious though. The chicken came out piping hot and crispy and then waffle was nice and sweet. It was about $ 9. I would definitely try this again if I saw the truck again.

I don’t know how Justin(the owner) does it, but his grub is consistently awesome! I always tend to get the poppin combo with extra grilled peppers, and it is yummy! Also, I highly recommend the ImSpicy and I know it sandwich, add some hot sauce and extra peppers and it’s off the hook! Keep it up Waffle Roost!

I ordered«the stack» and I freaking love it! Every bite is bursting with flavor and to my pleasant surprise it came with FRESH sweet potato chips: D they are delicious! I asked if my order would be done within ten minutes so I wouldn’t miss the train, and they literally gave me my order within a minute or two ! Now THAT is proper service. I couldn’t be happier with my order. I’m a full, happy fatty.

I love the Waffle Roost! Finally, a dedicated Chicken & Waffle Food Truck in my area. They’re based down in the South Bay, but for a couple of weeks they came up to Off The Grid Serramonte and that was my opportunity to try them out. I was pretty amazed by how many options they had on their menu. You can choose between chicken & waffles, chicken waffle sandwiches, chicken with other side dishes, and a good selection of sweet dessert waffles. The first time I visited I decided on trying one of their Chicken Waffle Sandwiches, I’m Spicy & I Know It I’m Spicy & I Know It – split waffle, fried chicken, crispy melted cheddar, serrano peppers OMGYUM! This sandwich was so good! There’s so much going on with this sandwich. You have the waffles which had a nice crispy crust but soft inside, the brined chicken thigh which if you know me I prefer over breast meat because it is much juicer and flavorful, and then the crispy melted cheddar and serrano peppers give it that added ‘umph’ with a little heat and cheesy flavor. I love this sandwich! Aged Cheddar Mac & Cheese — If you can see by the pic, there’s not too much to brag about their mac & cheese. But that’s okay, I really ordered this as a side dish to compliment my sandwich and it did it’s job. Still solid nonetheless. I went back again a few weeks later to try their 2 Legit plate. 2 Legit — 1 boneless buttermilk fried chicken thigh, 1 waffle, collard greens, and mac & cheese. I would consider this to be the perfect soul food plate since it has all the staples down. I’ve already had the waffle and chicken before as a sandwich, but it seems that they give you an even bigger portion when you order this plate. And once again, the boneless chicken thigh was juicy and delicious! The waffle was cooked just right that it was soft enough with a nice browned crust. The collard greens had a good smoked bacon flavor and the mac and cheese this time was much better. I will definitely go back to Waffle Roost again for what I had in this review and also to try their other menu items. I want to try the Stack, which is their other Chicken Waffle sandwich this includes a Fried Egg, Bacon, and drizzled with Honey. And also their sweet waffle with bacon & caramel topping. Heavenly! I hope the Waffle Roost comes back up to the peninsula and the other SF Off The Grids more often. They have great thing going with their Chicken & Waffles and they helped filled a void that’s been missing in Bay Area food truck scene. It’s instantly become one of my favorite Food Trucks!

I have an undying love for savory, crispy fried chicken paired with sweet, syrupy waffles. Yet, I’ve never had Chicken n’ Waffles quite like the ones at Waffle Roost. Maple syrup-infused waffles with boneless chicken thighs! Loved that it made it less messy to eat, but overall, it wasn’t anything life-changing. 2Legit: For $ 10, you get a waffle the size of your palm(really not that big) and two boneless chicken thighs. The chicken has a nice flavor but hella greasy. The waffle itself a little hard and dry, but I did love the Mac n’ cheese and the green collards sides. Happy that I got to try it once, but I don’t think I will go back for a second time.

Awesome, absolutely awesome! Flavorful and not too spicy chicken. Battered deliciously. Full and nicely portioned waffle. Mac n cheese done right. Collard greens tasteful with just enough bacon to keep your mouth watering for more. Service was fast and friendly. Menu is easy to choose from.

These guys show up in Alameda on **some** Saturdays and it’s the best thing to wake up to! I roll out of bed, walk across the block, and have me some 2Legit! I find myself slightly sad on the Saturdays they’re not around :(

I think I’ve found my favorite waffle place/truck! I’m in love and always will be… Waffles. They’re simple. They’re my favorite. Waffle Roost’s waffles are perfected heavenly. Sweet, thick, crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and just the best I’ve ever had. Love them with fruits and maple syrp and love the sandwiches with chicken! Thank you work perks!

Not really sure about why people complaining about the waffle being«cakey» or «doughy». For goodness sake, it’s Belgian liege style waffle not the let’sgo my ego style waffle and complained about it on Unilocal(it even said so on their website and on their truck). Belgian liege waffle is a yeast based style waffle that take time to ferment and letting the dough rise; hence the cakey texture. I can tell they put lots of LOVE and KNEADING into their waffle. More on the food, I seriously think their waffle is the best I’ve tasted so far. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Very good! Their fried chicken is pretty good with a little heat, but I honestly have had better fried chicken elsewhere. Now a fun story! One of their menu item is called 2Legit pronounced too-li-jit(a Belgian liege waffle, a piece of fried chicken, a side of bacon collard green, and a side of aged cheddar mac n cheese). 2Legit is actually a tribute to the song from MC Hammer, 2 Legit 2 Quit. I overheard one of the lady ordering food called 2Legit, too-leg-it. Two leg it?! I can’t even lady. Then I thought of a funny scenario in my head: Lady: Hey, I ordered the uh «Two Leg It» and where is my order at? Cashier: I’m sorry, ma’am, but we made your food«Two Leg It» and it grew 2 legs and ran away ahahahahah… Oh gosh please don’t kill me! The Waffle Roost is one of the best food truck I’ve had in a while. I rate The Waffle Roost 4.5 stars out of 5(rounding up). To Justin, the owner of The Waffle Roost, please tell me your secrets to having fabulous, marvelous, and Pantene Pro V advertisement hair like yours! It’s so shiny! My goodness! Please, I need to know, I will give you the rest of the .5 star if you tell me!

How could you not forget about this chicken and waffle? Their waffles are very sweet and crunchy. How is this possible for a food truck? The combination of sriracha and maple syrup on top of checkin is just speechless. Unforgettable and addicting.

I’m always a sucker for some good fried chicken. I was excited to see the Off The Grid food trucks come to my store’s shopping center on Sunday afternoons. For awhile, I was working Sundays, but sadly not anymore. I covered a couple of Sundays and both times I have come over to OTG, I have gotten my food from The Waffle Roost. The first time that I went over there, I ordered the chicken bites and side of waffles. The chicken bites were delicious! I can’t complain about them. The waffle bites were good too, but I’m not a huge sweet fan, in general. Between whatever they coat their waffles in and the syrup was a little too sweet for my liking. Although, I guess that’s why you eat the chicken with it. Oh well, I’m a rule breaker, what can I say? The second time around, I wanted to get something different. I’m constantly eating the same thing at different places, I’m trying to be more adventurous. This time, I ordered the stack. A buttermilk coated chicken breast, with bacon and a fried egg, drizzled with honey, sandwiched in between two waffles. HOLYMOLY! Now THIS is what I’m talking about, awesome food from a food truck. The chicken was fried perfectly and it was nicely accompanied by the waffles and egg. The only thing I’d have to say that they could improve on is the crispiness of the bacon. I didn’t even really get the bacon flavor from it, and I think it was too soft and blended in with the texture of the waffle. Other than that, it was still delicious! I would get it again. It’s a big serving, I was filled from it with eating no other sides. Can’t wait to go to OTG again in the future!

I’m always excited when there’s a new food truck around the office, cos our lunch choices can get a bit monotonous… I’ve never really understood the hype of the chicken and waffles combo, but decided to give this place a try. First tip, don’t come here for lunch if you’re pressed for time. The line goes by pretty quickly, but it’s waiting for the food that takes awhile. I think it took ~20 minutes. I got the 2legit and sweet potato fries to share, since it came with collard greens, mac and cheese, plus the chicken and waffle, it was a good way for us to get a feel of what The Waffle Roost had to offer. Get the sweet potato fries! I’m pretty sure they’re the best sweet potato fries I’ve ever had. They came out hot, crispy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside. They had a slight spice to it, which I enjoyed. As for the entrée, I wasn’t that blown away by it. I was not a fan of the waffle, as it kind of had a cakey texture to it… not sure if it is always like that, but I’m not a fan. The chicken was really dark, not sure if the oil needed to be changed(hard to do I’d imagine, on a truck), but luckily it was not overcooked. Chicken was tasty. I thought the collard greens were too salty for my liking, and the mac and cheese just left a lot to be desired. Glad to have given this place a try, the workers there are super friendly and I’ll definitely get the sweet potato fries again, just maybe not during the work week…

I never knew what I was missing. All my life I have loved fried chicken and waffles but never thought to combine the two, The one time I finally tried a fried chicken waffle sandwich, I was so disappointed that I gave it away and didn’t try another one for years. Well, that day was today. WOW!!! My taste buds are still singing praises :) First off, the fried chicken here is REALLY good. Juicy, well seasoned, and extra crispy. This chicken is already good enough to eat as a boneless tender strip. Now sandwich all of that between two fluffy Belgian styled waffles which are already infused with maple syrup. Every bite is AMAZING! The perfect balance of sweet and savory. I feel like I’m eating both my meal and dessert at once :) I ordered the 2Legit(original chicken on waffle) and my friend got the Spicy and I Know It(spicy chicken with jalapenos between waffles. I’m really glad I gave this truck a chance, I’ll definitely be back for more.
