Went for dinner and had non-veg thali. We were surprised at the number of items offered for the price. Each of them was served at the table and was delicious. Recommend going there in the afternoons because you don’t realize the quantity of food served by many waiters.

I had the Non-Veg dinner thali and it was very very good. I have never written reviews before but felt like writing one for Ulavacharu. The staff and the manager were very caring for their customers. I guess they read the reviews and improve. I will post more as I try more dishes.

This is a 5 rating. But UlavacharU may not be for you. If you a sensitive to things like: eating under blaring loud Indian music videos, crazy kinda dirty bathrooms, doors that are broken, furniture that is old and creaky, or general level of unpredictability in service. Then keep looking. BUT — If you love amazing rich authentic Indian flavors. Then do not miss this place. This is a foodies paradise, the focus on the food. This review is for dinner only — I have not been to the lunch buffet. Overview: SUPER spicy. HUGE flavor. Incredibly delicious food. Very friendly owner and staff. Nirav — the manager is amazing. If it’s your first time: It’s all about the thali. ORDERTHETHALI. trust me. veggie or meat — both are amazing. (the thali is served Mon –Thurs. nights) Also — it’s never the same: the thali changes a little every night Deep rich buttery curries — chicken and goat. Peanut butter fire sauce. so hot. little fried dough balls. pappadam deep fried batter drizzle — covered in honey. you never really know what your going to get. but it’s gonna be good. Get a beer(they only serve Corona) or some complementary chai from the self-service urn. and get ready for the flavor. A note on what time to go: The place gets going after about 7:30/8pm. — Before that mostly empty. Thanks for reading — Do not miss UlavacharU

I usually don’t write reviews but what happened repeatedly forced me to write one. This is one one the worst restaurants I have been in the Bay area. First incident: me and my friend went for lunch buffet on a weekday. The line for the buffet was long and people are waiting nearby the stinky toilets to collect food. I instantly went away. Second incident: I ordered some food for guests at home from this«great» restaurant. There were hair in the food. We had throw away. These 2 incidents has taught me my lesson. Never ever go to such place.

Excellent Indian food. Had two dishes, one meat one vege. The bread was fantastic. If I had a complaint it’s that you don’t get much vege or meat, too much sauce. So only 4 stars.

Happened on this place by chance when we were down in the area today. The weekend lunch buffet is amazing. The selection is to die for and includes a beer. My husband’s day was made! The food is really authentic and delicious. We’ve been to plenty of Indian places in the Bay but this one beats them by a mile. What I’d really like to rave about is the service. Our waiter was THEBEST. So friendly and attentive. He had the timing on bringing in the naan and dosa down to a science. A smile each time. I was beginning to think he could read my mind because I would think it and there he was offering me another dose of fresh naan. He looked like his sole purpose in life was to keep me fed which makes him my favorite person in the world. We met the owner and he was really nice. He seemed like he really put the customer first. It shows in his food. I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for authentic Andra style Indian food. Be aware it is spicy, but hey, it ain’t Andra food if it ain’t spicy!

Reasons not to come here: The incense smell is quite strong inside upon entering. Visited on two occasions for the buffet, and didn’t see any tandoori chicken(one of my fav dishes) The staff is very attentive, promptly offering freshly made naan & I think dosa? There are always new menu items to try. Really tasty garlic naan, chili chicken, biryanis, chicken tikka masala. You feel engulfed in the culture, especially with the tv screens showing movies & music videos. Free coffee, mango lassi, and beer! U read that right… I thought it was too good to be true! After talking to the owner, I want this place have continued success. But the main reason for never coming here is because I don’t want everybody knowing about this place & crowding up the joint

I came here for the buffet on a Sunday. Had some problems with the place. Food — It’s not bad but I have had a lot better Indian food. Ambience — Didn’t like it very much. It was extremely noisy. Ordinary furnishings. Hygiene — Plates were not very clean. There was food littered on the floor in some places.

Among the million Indian restaurants on El camino real. this place serves good food… has a decent ambiance if you sit in the dining room adjacent to the main dining area… My first visit was for dinner and we ordered their special veggie biryani and like always I think I ordered saag paneer since it spinach and cottage cheese :)(one thing in a indian restaurant that not total carb loaded and has protein and fiber in it) We sat in the main dining area which get really overcrowded… and there was some loud music playing… But once our food arrived all of that was in the background and didnt matter any more… I loved the mango lassi. not pretentious served in a regular tumbler with a straw. you can taste the real mangoes and yogurt in there… nothing artificial here… I liked my saag paneer and my wife thoroughly enjoyed every bite of the«ulavacharu biryani».It had the tang from ulavacharu that had been used to marinate the paneer and veggies… surprisingly it was loaded with lot of veggies and paneer… she liked it so much she went back to get it to go next week :) My second visit was for lunch buffet and this time we sat in the dining room next to the main dining area… it was quiet and not busy in this room :) The buffet actually had A LOT of options. like, paav bhaaji, vadas, puris, 3 veg entrees, daal, biryanis… gulab jamun… mysore pak. and lot more. ITWASLIKE A FEAST… Interesting thing here is they request you to re-use your plate to save water. which sounded strange first but sounded fair given the drought we have in California… The place is always busy… which probably tells you a lot about the food they serve…

This is a review by a vegetarian for the vegetarian options. TL;DR: Get a thāli. Focus on the dosā, chutney & biryani. I still do not recommend the buffet. It is mediocre at best. Not much progress on the front of vegetables, but I managed to find a way to make me happy. Read on for more… Recommended days to go: Monday through Thursday. Recommended a lā cārte vegetarian dishes: Paneer gobhi Sālan(Cauliflower & Paneer scramble), Vegetable Biryani, Ulavachāru Paneer Biryani. If you are hungry and have an appetite, get the Thāli. I like the chutney and if they have dosā, the combination is brutal awesome. Hot, crisp, soft & fresh of the stove. At a time, you can down 6 – 10. Top it off with the Biryani. Bliss.

Awesome andhra food. The food quality was way good. we ordered ulavacharu chicken Briyani which is house speciality and it was yummy. Gongura dal was amazing too. Be watchful on the spice levels you order. the only reason I give 4 star is thier ambience but I definitely recommend this place for anyone who want to taste south Indian food. we will check back this place again if we are in California.

Tried lunch buffet during weekend. Place: Ambiance was dull, densely put, overcrowded & noisy. Thankfully waiting wasn’t long. Buffet: Lots of choices for vegetarian. Most of the dishes had south Indian flavor. Loved Mango Lassi, Papad, Paneer curry. Price: 15 $, kind a expected for varieties of items offered.

The tandoor chicken was amazing. It not like any I’ve had before. It set a new level of expectation. It came out sizzling just right. The meat was moist and you can taste the spice yet it doesn’t overpower the meat. The goat curry was flavorful and tender. It included a range of pieces. So if you don’t like bones, then keep this in mind. Okra curry was not as crispy as I’d expect from the name, but the flavor was well balanced.

This is a long due update but, ‘better late than never’! CATERING Have to mention about their wonderful catering service. Tried it over a month ago & was greatly satisfied. Thanks to Mr. Lakshman who helped me in coordinating the order. Timely delivery — Mr. Neerav, who delivered us the items was sincere, helpful and professional by getting them on time. Appreciate that the items were still hot & fresh when delivered. Food — Needless to say about UlavacharU’s dishes, served in big portions for a count of around twenty people. Tasted flavorful & mouthwatering as ever. A Big Thumbs Up from our guests, who liked all the items. Price — They offered very reasonable rates for the order. UNLIMITEDVEGTHALI We also tried their unlimited veg thali for dinner. Amazing variety in items served, delicious & tempting menu, definitely worth the amount paid. Serving staff will keep offering food, very attentive and they were quick too. I’m not gonna break the surprise in store for the Thali menu. Hit the restaurant & check out for yourselves! Excellent hospitality & well pleased with their services so far. Hope they continue to provide the same in the years to come. Overall, I highly recommend UlavacharU. Hope to make many visits & more often!

If you are a Telugu speaking person, how can you not try a restaurant named«Ulavacharu»? This was my thinking when I bookmarked this restaurant. We ordered the following items to-go Dhaba Chilli Chicken(2 orders) Samosa Andhra Chicken Curry 2 butter naan Ulavacharu Chicken Dum Ka Biriyani Total with tax came to ~ $ 49 Pros: Ulavacharu chicken dum ka biriyani was unique and delicious. I had not tried this version of a biriyani before.(+1) Portion of food was adequate for the price. Food wasn’t too spicy either. Decent parking & seating. Friendly staff. Cons: Dhaba Chilli chicken was not crispy as explained in the menu. The dish felt Indo-Chinese(–1) The next time we are in Sunnyvale, I will try their Thali, and prawn masala.

While I’m no expert in Indian food, I do like to try new things. In terms of Indian food, I’ve probably only been to maybe 5 or 6 joints. I know Indian cooking has a lot of regions and styles of cooking just like Chinese food has Hunan or Szechuan and such. I believe here it is Andhra. Not to be confused with Hydra-style, which Captain America isn’t very fond of. We came here with some good friends who were more familiar with Indian food. Or, as they call it, food. Yes, they were Indian. We basically went with whatever they recommended as our family of 4 are novices when it comes to Indian food. For my dish, I had the Ulavacharu Chicken Dum Ka Biryani. I can’t describe the spices, but the dish itself was fantastic. I want to say it was a little spicier than I normally like, but it wasn’t. It was right at the threshold. The threshold is set at sweaty face, but can’t stop eating. My wife had the Chicken Curry with Naan and that was good although I only had 1 bite. We also ordered the Chicken 65 to share. The Chicken 65 is an Indo-Chinese dish and it was delicious! I could eat 50 of those bad boys! We ended our meal with some traditional Indian desserts, Rasmalai and Gulab Jamun. Not overly sweet, but sweet enough to satisfy my sweet tooth craving. Like I said, I’m no Indian food expert, but this is a place I will definitely come back to.
