Their food is spicy! That’s why they call it Spice Hut! But it’s good! I’m giving it FIVE stars because OMAR is so kind! If the world had more people like him, it would be a better place!’ Enjoy and please tip! This place went downhill since Omar left,

Love the mutton biriyani and appam there. But seems like they are closed nowadays.

ITAPPEARSSPICEHUTSUNNYVALEISPERMANENTLYCLOSED as of my visit on Jan 3, 2016. There are signs all around the store saying closed, and they no longer answer their phone. If true, this is a major loss — they had great food, generous portions, and at a great price.

Cheap food with okay taste. Nothing special. Good if you want to stack up Indian food for the week. If you are looking for something special then there are plenty of options around el Camino real.

Good taste, authentic. I liked their Masala Dosa. Chicken Chettinad and Chicken Cilantro was good. As the name suggests they were Spicy. As I like spicy food this place is a great discovery

These people did 2 things recently: They increased their prices and they decreased their quantities. The combo options are absolutely the worst. One has to take rice as one of the items ! And they dont have any rotis. What kind of an indian place doesn’t serve rotis !? Even south indian restaurants have rotis ! Don’t go here. Absolute worst when it comes to price and quantity.

Blown away by the taste and portion compared to the great price. Delicious food. Authentic. Plenty to take home. A+

It is an average place. You don’t go there if you want to have a good evening dinner with family. You go there because you are lazy to cook. I had concerns about the cleanliness. Food here stays on the counter for whole day and looks depressing. Overall a good place for Indian bachelors who have come here for work or study and want to spend less on decent to average food. But not for an outing.

We go there for dhosa, malabar paratha amd mutton pepper fry. What I think from my experince of last couple of months; the quality is drastically reduced. This Sunday we order the paratha, mutton pepper fry and the special dum biriyani. Me and my husband ended up with stomach upset! It was a take out order. They never asked for the level of spice! I never ever tasted such chilli-hot biriyani in my life. I also wonder if that was a mutton-‘meat’ pepper fry or mutton-‘bone’- pepper fry!!! Also, they used to cooked it dry; now it has little gravy; at least it is not dry. The size of malabar paratha was SMALL. Altogether, my conclusion is GOODBYE Spice Hut.

Make that 2.5. It’s more accurate to say«I’ve experienced better» than«a-ok,» but 2 stars just seemed a bit harsh. It was just«ok»… not«a-ok» but oh well. I did think the prices were high for what you get. 4SMALL pieces of tandoori chicken for around $ 8 after tax and that’s a la carte? One would be hungry after this. I also asked if the tandoori was less spicy for children and he said the chicken tikka wasn’t as spicy — — that ended up being spicier! It at least got the kid to down a glass of milk(yay calcium!). But she didn’t eat much of the chicken since she wanted the«inside»(not spicy) and there wasn’t much meat to begin with. I do give a star for convenience — they have some dishes out & kept warm, but note that if ordering off the menu(like the tandoori and chicken tikka), it still was a 5 – 10 min wait for the food(they give you a buzzer). It wasn’t terrible, but I’ve had much better tandoori chicken. And the chicken tikka was dry. Nearly $ 20 for not much in terms of food(portions) or flavor — I’d much rather spend that on one of the yummier buffets in the area and leave with a satisfied tongue & tummy.

Ok, so I LOVE indian food. This place is like fast food. I call it my indian McDonald’s. It’s a little more pricey these days, but still my favorite when I need something quick. Lots of vegan choices for me, too.

A unique special Indian cuisine place. They serve a whole lot of items, but their menu really shines with Kerala(a state in south of India) dishes. Try the Chicken Briyani, very different and complex or the Chicken Chettinaad or Vegetarian(Vegetables) Chettinaad a thick peppery curry with one of the special breads Aappams(soak it with the coconut milk before starting to eat), Didi-aappams or Lachaa Paratha. Bare bones in terms of décor, reasonably priced, a regular place for us

Mediocre Indian food on the go or you can sit there and dine in. The place is pretty easy to find, next to dollar tree and in the same center as Bön chon. Went in and wasn’t greeted and was rushed to order but I’ll let that slide. I ordered their chicken Tikka, chicken biryani, chicken marsala, and chicken tandoori.(I realized that tandoori and Tikka are pretty similar only difference is that ones on the bone and the other isn’t.) Overall, the food is okay. Biryani was good and the chicken marsala was flavorful. but the tandoori and Tikka were flavorless and was super dry. Only a couple of pieces were okay to eat, but the rest tasted like it had been reheated from yesterday’s batch. not sure I’m okay with that. ALSO! As someone mentioned in their review, they have issues with their card system. My debit card got declined and so did my boyfriends because their«system was down for that day». but they obviously had a sign made for their«technical issues» that they put up immediately after our incident. Kind of a turn off after that and I’d doubt I’d come back.

1÷8÷15: This review is for the TRUCK, not the restaurant. I didn’t find a separate Unilocal page for the truck, so since I’m in Sunnyvale I am using the Sunnyvale restaurant location over the San Jose one. Anyway, the food is only average for an Indian place and normally would only deserve a 3, but for the money it’s an outstanding bargain for a truck out here in Sunnyvale, which tend to be overpriced and expensive, hence the 4 stars. 1. Rice Bowl — Combo(Madras Chicken Curry) $ 8.00: So, they gave this to me in a large paper bag, and it was HEAVY. I was like WTF do they have in there – weighs a ton! Well, suffice to say, it was a lot of food! Just $ 8! The components: Madras Chicken Curry: The chicken is quite tender and juicy. Cooked well, unlike most that are just way dry. The sauce is a little hot, but the right amount for me. The curry is thick and flavorful. Rice cooked well. Very good. And FYI, there’s a lot of rice. This by itself is probably more than enough for lunch, for many people. 7⁄10. Naan: This is almost the same as the pita bread they use at Daphne’s, which is to say, fake. This isn’t the traditional flaky, sometimes crunchy outside, chewy inside type naan. It’s soft bread. Not bad bread, but not naan. They probably bought it from Costco I would guess. 3⁄10. Cholle: Never had this before. Kinda like the Mexican soup with garbanzo beans(chickpeas) but milder and thicker. Pretty good. Nothing to compare with, but I’ll just say 6⁄10? 2. Egg Puff $ 3: I was a little annoyed that after they made my lunch they called me over and said, oh, we don’t have the Chicken Puff you ordered. Anyway, got this instead. It had no price next to it, but they said it was the same as Chicken Puff. It’s basically a triangular samosa with half a boiled egg inside and a bunch of sweet onion curry filling. The pie crust is very flaky and cooked very well. Not the most exciting stuffing, but it works. 6⁄10. So, again, this is average food – nothing fantastic but fills you up. And if I had this at the actual restaurant I’d give this place a 3. But given this is a Sunnyvale food truck which are notoriously over priced, this was a crazy amount of food for the price! 4⁄5 for the truck. 3⁄5 if at the restaurant. #truck #indian #curry

We’ve been coming to Spice Hut for years and have enjoyed their food. We haven’t had any major problems. Today, however, there was something wrong with their credit card and debit card machine. It declined both set of our cards this afternoon, which was unusual. especially for a debit card, if you get my meaning. So we paid cash, then contacted our bank while we waited for our food. The bank informed us that there was nothing wrong with our credit and debit cards but there was something wrong with Spice Hut’s machine(and yes, the bank can«see» the transactions that did not go through at Spice Hut which would in turn«flag» Spice Hut as one of those businesses to look out for …) So as a warning, be weary if your credit and/or debit cards are declined at Spice Hut this week. If you need to, contact your bank while you are still at Spice Hut, if your credit and/or debit cards are declined. We went to Trader Joe’s afterwards to make sure our credit card worked, and it worked just fine at Trader Joe’s. We had no problem. So the bank was correct — there was something wrong with Spice Hut’s machine so just as a warning — bring cash if you want to eat at Spice Hut this week, just in case — or don’t come here at all until they have upgraded their credit/debit card machines. No, we won’t be returning to Spice Hut anytime soon. Not while they still have this problem. There are many other restaurants to choose from in the meantime.(And the bored looking cashier couldn’t care less about you anyway, so why give them the business at this point?)

I give this place 5 stars because of their excellent authentic food but 3 stars for the décor. If you like Non-vegetarian Indian food this is a great place for you!!! Their Chicken makkini is amazing(my son’s favorite) and their Chicken Tika Dosa is outstanding. If you don’t like spice food… you’re in trouble. Most of the food at Spice Hut is SPICY(maybe not for the Indian pallet). The above two dishes are on their least spicy range. The service is very pleasant and if you don’t know which item to choose(and you choose from the buffet) they’ll let you taste a few until you make up your mind. The nan bread is very good and very fresh(doesn’t keep long) and works really good with the chicken makini. We love their takeaway and sometimes we’ll sit in.

I’ve been coming here since this place first opened since it’s so conveniently located down the street from my house! When ever I’m in the mood for Indian food, my family and I always come here! If you order a combo instead of regular menu items then it’s kind of like a version of Mr. Chau’s, how you tell them which item you want in your combo plate. Their food is consistently good and fresh! They always have new dishes coming when they are running low, especially during dinner hours! The weekends are pretty crowded for lunch and dinner as well! They have an assortment of vegetarian and meat dishes! They usually have some of the same dishes but they do have a variety in certain nights with some dishes that are different from their usual, but it’s always been good! Their naan is also made fresh to order. I love their garlic and butter naan!!! We usually get the 3 or 4 item take out combo and that’s more than enough to feed 4 adults! The service is always great! They are fast without the feeling of being rushed. So don’t be scared by the long line they usually don’t take that long! The cashier always remembers me and my family wherever we come in and greets us with huge smiles of familiarity! This is our go to place to get our Indian food fix!!!

I love this place because it is a decent looking fast food place and doesnt get overly crowded like all the other indian restaurants are. And it is also not very spicy. The food is a little inconsistent though. I have been here at least 5 times and I waited to write the review because I did not want to get judgmental because of one bad experience. So here is what I have tried here so far: Chicken Biryani — Flavor is awesome, 100% for that but quantity is incosistent, chicken pieces are sometimes very less, and even under cooked at times. Sometimes it;s really perfect though. Kottu Paratha(Chicken) — Have tried it only once and it was really good. Poori Masala — Nice and flavorful. Masala Dosa: Again 100% good. Appam-Chicken Curry: I had great expectations from the appam here since this was supposed to be a Mallu restaurant but i was disappointed. The appam wasnt cooked well, the coconut milk also tasted like a store bought milk. Chicken curry was good though. Falooda: Although not a south indian drink but they did make it well, 100 points for that too. Will I go there again? Yes because of the fact that they serve food fast and its less crowded and the place is clean. There are some dishes that they make really well, i guess i will stick to that rather than trying everything. Will update my review if anything changes in the future.
