This place is small and tucked away in a strip mall. The new name is Kam’s. The women there are so sweet. The doubles are out of this world tasty. The shark and bake is super tasty. The music is great and the other folks you meet are really friendly. Once you try it, it will be your favorite fix! They have breakfast all day Sunday.

First things first, let me get some self-acclamation out of the way by stating that I introduced the new wonderful and very friendly owners to Unilocal. Its no longer Lovey’s Roti but Kam’s Roti Shop and I updated this information on Unilocal with their feedback from my phone. What triggered me to do this was that those sweet ladies were extremely warm, friendly, and family like to me and it never felt like it was my first visit. They told me that they just bought the store over from previous owners and now make their own Guyanese food. They are located right on a strip mall on Oakland Park Road, that would not look very appealing and even a little shady to an extent. I learnt long time back to not judge a restaurant by its location, well at least try not to. There is a canvas sign board that says Kam’s Roti Shop with long glass walls. I figured that if I were to go to Guyana, this is what a Roti Shop would look like. They have incredibly cheap lunch specials for $ 4.99(look that menu pic) and the food is cheap other wise too. The menu has basic Caribbean items such as Curry Goat, Oxtail, Curry chicken and with some of the nicest appetizers. We din’t go at lunch but it was at that awkward time before dinner. We ordered Roti(obviously) separate from the Curry chicken and Curry Goat. Also ordered Aloo Pie(Spiced mashed Potatoes between a special bread). I could see the kitchen and that they were making fresh Roti. Now the Caribbean Rotis are thicker and much larger than Indian Rotis. One Roti is as large as a medium sized pizza. The Curries came mixed with Curry Chana(mashed Chick Peas). They were floating with each other. The Roti was amazing, they stuff Caribbean rotis with some lentils. If you see some yellow crumbs dropping of out, don’t worry its not anything bad but just dried lentils falling out. I know for sure that I have tasted better curries but this wasn’t bad either. I think RockSteady and Donna’s have spoiled me. The Aloo Pie was spicy but amazing taste with the chutney. I chatted with the ladies for another half hour after we finished the food and what amazed me was that in spite of the décor and location they are pretty high tech. They agreed to charge me from their tabled’s fancy little credit card slot. I got my bill right on my phone through an SMS. That’s pretty interesting. Would come back again in few weeks and hope that they have worked a bit on their décor in the meantime. Obviously, if you are still reading this you know that ambiance and top notch service is not their bread and butter but its rather their food and friendliness that you take with you when you walk out of their door.
