Anchor bar is a dive bar, but it’s a REAL dive bar. None of this trendy, I’m trying to be a dive bar because I’ve heard it’s cool nonsense. This is a dive bar because it’s a dive bar, and it’s visited by locals who have been coming here for years. When we walked in, it felt like the record stopped and every patron looked up from their beer to see just who these tourists thought they were. Clearly, we were guests at THEIR bar.
The food? I’ve never seen anything so cheap. In fact, I’m not even sure how they make money. Did I really order a pitcher of beer for $ 3 or was I just dreaming that? I can’t even buy it from the store for that cheap. Burgers for $ 4? I don’t even know how they pay their rent.
This is an amazing truly local spot that’s worth going off the beaten path for. Skip the tourist experiences and make this a must visit.

Love the food– best burgers in town! Great prices for what you get. A bit crowded at times, but the atmosphere is fun and laid back. The boat decorations are cool. One of my favorite places.

Service is honestly sooooo bad it’s not even worth going. If your idea of a good time is sitting at a dirty table with flies (if you can even find an open one) and being ignored for a half hour before your order is even taken, AND having your order wrong for dinner then this is the place for you. There’s plenty of other places in Superior/​Duluth that have a fine burger, excellent service and order accuracy that are more worth your while. Drop your anchors elsewhere for dinner folks.

The Anchor Bar is defiantly a must try. They have a ton of burger and food options to go with a full bar. Both the burgers and the beer are cheap, $ 5 burgers and $ 5 pitchers. The Anchor however is a tiny place that is always busy, be prepared for a wait. I love the feel of the bar, it is very historic has a lot of old ship and sailing artifacts to look at. The only reason I’m not a regular at this bar is because of the service. Don’t expect to receive any customer service after you order, but I guess what do you expect from a bar converted into a restaurant.

Sign of a good burger dive bar — your feet slip on the greasy floors walking in and they have boxes of potatoes stacked by the door.
This place is tiny and they have weird seating arrangements, but the burgers are good and CHEAP. And they have some unusual toppings including cashews and cream cheese olive spread (which I thought was too much cream cheese, not enough olive.)
Better than the burgers though — are the fries. Definitely worth the upcharge. Fresh cut fries — crispy and delicious. Also — no wimpy bottles of ketchup, but rather Costco sized squeeze bottles of Heinz and rolls of paper towels. Heaven!!!

Great CHEAP burgers. Beer is a good price as well. Service… Well it leaves you wanting more. This place is packed ALL THE TIME! Try to get a table on off hours or might be a good idea to order to go. I have been a patron of the place for about 7 years and know the ins and outs pretty well.
Tons of beer bottles on hand. Good craftys. Interesting décor. All nautical themed. And what is weirder is a back pub table had old barber chairs around it. Outdoor seating now available. Good joint just very popular and that can pose a problem.
Good joint overall. I liked it better when it was all locals but I will still urge you to try it out!

I just moved to the area and was told about how good the burgers were when getting my nails done. Finally had the chance to try them and was not disappointed! The best burger I’ve had in this area and the prices are more than reasonable. I would definitely recommend going here and I also saw they do take out so you can enjoy these juicy burgers in the comfort of your own home.

Burgers are good, not great. Fries are fresh cut, nothing special. Came here on a recommendation from a friend and can say I went here and tried the burgers I have heard about. The first thing I noticed was the smell. It smelled like you would imagine a townie bar would. Then I got to a table and realized I should have brought sanitizer towels. The waitress was long in coming, and when she finally came she was the epitome of the rest of the décor in the establishment… Old and unkempt. Despite that the burgers are above average and the prices (not including a tetanus shot) were very affordable.

Ok, we went here after hearing from many different people what great burgers they have. If you find it necessary to eat off the floor, I do not recommend anchor bar. However, if you are looking for a good, cheap burger and fries, this is your place. It’s a limited menu so don’t expect lots of choices. My hubby chose the cream cheese burger with jalapeños and fried onions and I chose the bacon cheese burger with fried onions and we split. No silver wear to cut in half? No problem! He ate half a And I ate half and then we handed them over. I had to salt the fries but other than that, yummy burgers. Décor was nautical and lots of it. Lots to look at if you don’t find your date interesting.

Got here on what we considered my wife’s food tour birthday. It has been a very long 20 years ago that I ate myself. It is still the same unbelievable burgers at extremely low cost. To galley busters, a California burger and one very spicy jalapeño cream cheese burger And let’s not forget BEER! It was getting late and this was our last stop before heading back to the twin cities. Not my best decision but I took on the enormous galley buster. I barely made it thru it but I did. This hands down is the best burger I have ever eaten. Moist tender and gear flavor. Oh the fries, they are fresh cut, something that seems to be hard to find. This is a must stop if you just want a burger. No regrets 20 years ago and no regrets again. Won’t be 20 years before we stop back. Trying to find an excuse to head back up north already. Well worth the pit stop. Make sure you stop.

This bar is the first to visit on the twin ports, hands down. You tourists better line up.

Burgers were great… Burgers were cooked to perfection, not over done, not undercooked… Bun was great… I had the blue cheese burger, was wonderful, my wife had the cashew and Swiss burger which was unique and great,
We sat at the bar, the service was poor. I think the «poor service» dive bar was a put on though the staff seemed very capable but almost playing up the poor service to dive bar standard… my suggestion, order a tall cold glass of Grainbelt and any burger will be great!!!

There were no tables to sit at so we sat at the bar. Waited 20 minutes just to get a drink and to order burgers. As we sat there for an hour waiting for the burgers the staff were so rude, talked about how much they hated there jobs there. As we sat at the bar you can see where the cook is making the fries and burgers we noticed as she came out of the kitchen she had a Cigerette hanging out
of her mouth (yes the Cigerette was lite), sweat pouring down her face dripping on the food long stringy greasy hair not plulled back we got really grossed out, we canceled our order paid for the drinks and left. Will never go back. Yep, the burgers maybe good but not with someone’s sweat dripping in the food.

Anchor Burgers = AWESOME!!! These burgers are sooooooooo delicious!!!
Pros: Juicy, tender, flavorful, good size, fresh, great staff, and did I mention they serve BEER ON TAP! how great is that?!
The fries are pretty amazing as well…
If you’re ever nearby, and would like a juicy burger? Well, don’t pass this up, something you’ll regret later on. =)

There’s a reason this place is famous. Can’t say anything anyone else hasn’t. Great burgers. Great fries. Excellent beer selection. Staff might be a tad over worked. Not the quickest and most personable staff ever but they get the job done. Once you get a massive amount of meat in your hands you won’t care anyways. Really reasonably priced. Deliciously divey. Will come back the next time I’m in the area.
