Sadly, this little place delivered well UNDER my expectations. It was talked up by my traveling companion as being authentic with great food. Being a native Southern Californian, I highly questioned that this place was the best place around. I mean, come on, right?! Needless to say, I agreed to try it out, hoping for a legit experience. My hopes and expectations were completely destroyed haha. Honestly, the entire experience was a classic«meh». The chips and salsa they brought to the table could not have tasted more store-bought. The entres were nothing to write home about and rather lack-luster. I didn’t even finish my meal because it was not hitting my taste buds well at all. Service was slow and the place was not busy at all. Keep in mind, I have no terrible experiences to talk about here, just very flat line boring, run-of-the-mill, boring food. Of ALLLLLLL the places I could have dined at, I had to agree to dining at this place. What a «chawn». I would not return here, basically ever.

Ive been to this location 2 or 3 times. No visit has been exceptionally great, and this last one was intensely mediocre. My bf and I sat at a table at the bar section and were passed by all the servers time after time until we said something. We ordered beers, which were served almost warm, and the food sucked. I can’t honestly remember how the food was other times, but this last time was so bland. Maybe its that I’m used to real Mexican food so I expect too much from these American Mexican places, but the food is really not authentic quality. The vibes are also far from Mexican, besides the décor. The music in the juke box is far from south of the border, and the 2 guys getting ready to play were definitely not getting ready to play anything remotely close to Mexican music. 1 star for the chips and salsa, 1 star for the décor. I’d probably never go back.

One of my favorite taco joints around. Love there margaritas and tacos. They could offer a little better happy hour. But I get it for the area. There habanero hot sauce is so good. Burns but is really good!

My friends always complain that the service is mediocre but we like going to the bar where ithe service can be good. I’m in the dining room and the employees cannot be bothered to clean the tables. I sit down at a table that needs bussing and I partially clean it and wait, and wait, and wait. Finally, I wave a server down and ask for service. I get a lame excuse and asked to move to a cleaned table. She leaves; her hands empty after doing nothing. What a demonstration of poor team work! I wait a bit longer and finally get service. I sat down at the 2nd period intermission. I got a beer with 5:24 left in the 3rd period.

Knowledgeable staff, friendly, AMAZING Baja Fidh tacos, great chips and salsa. After kayaking for two hours we were hungry… So we hit this place for some margaritas and tacos and were not disappointed! Great time, great food, and great fish tacos!

We came here for happy hour on a Friday. I was worried it was gonna be packed with barflys and beach bums but it was quite. We sat in the dining room in a booth. I had some of the HH tacos and was disappointed how small they were… the surf fish tacos had an amazing flavorful sauce. The server was horrible. She kept hanging out with the hostess chatting about their weekend plans. I’m not one to call a server over to wait on us. Most places I go to they check on me 3x during the meal. I wanted to order a few more tacos cus they were so small but by the time she came over and asked if everything was ok I was over it. I just wanted the check. My wife had a wet burrito that she enjoyed but the sauce on it was weak with no real flavor. I gave this place a shot cus I have friends who eat here a lot and praise the place but I’ll be taking my money and business over to SuperMex from now on…

So, we ended up near the restaurant after enjoying a Valentine’s Day boat ride on my cousin’s boat. Everyone was famished once we docked. Um, it’s Valentine’s Day. We’re not going to find a restaurant to serve us. We got lucky. It was about 6:30pm on Valentine’s Day, and we had to wait about 15 minutes. I got the carnitas and they were outstanding! Really, everything was great… the service, the food and we picked up the tab for five us us(I was the only one with beer). The whole thing came to less than $ 70.00. Win! What a nice find.

Terrible experience on a Sunday afternoon. Went for lunch, ordered Fish tacos — the fish was overlooked and dry. It was brown that’s how overlooked it was and it was oily but hard. Also ordered the Alamo Burrito, the shredded beef was black and hat because it was let out under the heat lamp until it was revoked and dry. I told the server because I wanted he kitchen staff to know — they took the Tacos off but I was starving and ate ½ of the burrito. Let’s just say that he best thing about this place was the iced tea and defiantly not the food. Young waitress was nice — owner was here she heard it all and I assume she disagreed with me because she said nothing to me about my complaint. Pick another place and keep riding your bike to another location — they are not worth the stopover.

Been coming here for years. Very casual Sunset Beach atmosphere. Full bar and variety on the food menu. Look for it under the water tower.

I love the burritos, chips and fresh homemade onion-heavy salsa, happy hour street tacos, and casual Mexixan beach shack atmosphere of Taco Surf. I frequent the one on Second Street more since it is closer and has a patio. Though it’s the smallest, I also like the one in Seal Beach, mainly for the Main Street experience. The one in Los Alamitos is fine but feels secluded. The one in Westminster us great because it has some killer late night happy hours. Though I hate backing out into PCH, the Sunset Beach stands out because they have live music and seems darker and music venuey.

Atmosphere is bar like setting on one side and booths on the other. Limited spaces in parking lot. Hostess there to greet, waitress a little slow, but not horrible. Free chips and Great salsa, but not spicy. 3 stars carne asada steak plate. Flavor was good, but it was paper thin. Came with rice, beans, choice of tortillas, and guacamole. Guacamole was ok, not how I like mine… Texture is different, Like they purée it then add chunks of avocado??? $ 15 plate pricey for big but too thin of cut of meat. Carnitas 4 star tacos! Flavorful and tasted fresh. I will order this next time. Hubby had tacos(kind? I will have to update review later) and he said yummy! I saw, They served a drink that looked like a margarita, with a baby corona beer sticking out… next time…

Went here for lunch with my hunny and parents and we had a great time! We parked in the alley way near by — although the restaurant had plenty of parking at around 2pm on a Saturday — we sat down and had the beer of the month for $ 3.50 and margaritas. Our party had tacos al pastor, carnitas, and chicken and carnitas tacos. Everyone enjoyed their food. This is a cool spot and I’m excited to check out the Dana Point location near me.

Why has it taken me so long to write a review of Taco Surf/Surf Side/Sunset Beach? I have been frequenting this location as well as the Los Alamitos and Seal Beach locations for at least 10 years. This location is by far the most charming. At first it looks small from the outside and the limited parking however when you enter you see the vast amount of space that they do have. The staff is super friendly and you can tell that they have a lot of fun. The food hands down at Taco Surf is just amazing. You start with complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa has just the right ratio of spice and tomatoes/onions and cilantro. I usually order one of three items(I come here a lot!). I order three tacos ala carte two Baja fish and one carnitas, the seafood bowl or the Baja fish burrito. You must get grilled serrano’s on the side, they are spicy and amazing, they also have a season salt seasoning on them which gives them an even more addicting quality. You can also get grilled sliced serrano’s in your burrito — the faint at heart need not apply they are quite spicy and absolutely worth it, if you get them in the burrito you are fully committed. The Baja fish is grilled to absolute perfection it has the right amount of crunch and is seasoned well under the batter. The fish filet is left whole in the tacos and is sliced in the burrito. To get the full crunch effect the tacos are recommended over the burrito. I can’t end the review before giving you the life changing tip of ordering(must not be on a diet) super nachos with well done carnitas. Amazing! Wow I think I might have to run over to Taco Surf now, writing this review is making me hungry!
