Horrible experience. The owner told me my taste buds were bad because I got a funny tasting piece of turkey in my turkey club. He insisted the turkey was fresh and there was no problems. It was slimy and even smelled funny. He grabbed my plate from me and said refunding food was against his policy.

Voted one of the best diners in NJ. I live down the road and we have some great diners in our area, the double S didn’t disappoint. Staff were kind and friendly and coffee was tasty and filled regularly. Portions were HUGE! Wife ordered banana walnut pancakes and they were literally the size of her plate. Tasty too. The Double S doesn’t get 5 stars because of its prices. Easily the most expensive diner in the area… I had my usual meal that I get at most diners and the price was too high for a typical diner meal. The tacky diner look is cozy, welcoming and warm.

This came recommended, but I am not impressed, undercooked pancakes, overcooked eggs, under-trained waitstaff and high prices… I’ve been to a few of the diners in the area and I will be sure to go a little further down the road to the Sit n Chatt or Jerzees next time, where they are warm, helpful and have good quality food.

Went there for breakfast on a Sunday. I had sausage, biscuits and gravy. It was served with home fries and poached egg. I have to say it was one of the better breakfasts I’ve had. The only complaint, as far as the food goes, the coffee had a burnt flavor and the toast that my friend has was burnt. My major problem was the seating. They had many open tables, but we were shown to an uncomfortably small table. When we asked to sit at a bigger table, we were informed«they are for bigger parties. However, we counted 3 other«big tables» being occupied by couples. Based on this, I will not be going back. Even good food can’t be enjoyed when being constantly hit by wait staff traffic.

It’s a clean and friendly diner with enough choices for everyone! Nostalgic memorabilia surrounds the dining areas! Their German Crepes were light, highlighted with powder sugar and a delicious tangy lemon sauce; and, sadly there wasn’t enough BBQ sauce, nor were the French Fries well fried placed with their pulled pork ordered on this day! All in all: good choice for when visiting this area!

Big portions of whatever you get on their menu! Eggplant fries with the spicy ranch sauce are to die for! Brisket sandwich was the best!

This is not your ordinary diner. They have seriously quality food for a good price. I had the brisket topped eggs Benedict on a gluten free English muffin and it was awesome. You can tell the food is fresh and the atmosphere is that of a classic old diner. Next time I am anywhere close to this area I will be coming here again

I pretty much just handed them $ 25. I picked up food and brought it home and it just wasn’t…good. I called to see if I can get something else. When I went BACK over to return the food, I was told I owed more money for the burger… because«I didn’t like it.» Crazy enough, I thought about paying as my stomach was basically calling the shots, until I realized I must be insane to do so. So, first time there, last time ever going.

I have been having Saturday breakfasts at this establishment for years now. Never a bad meal. The servers and owner know me by name and my cup of tea is delivered to the table before I even sit down. The breakfast menu has the typical food on it, but is also includes home smoked brisket, house made corned beef has and home smoked bacon. They make their grits with cream and they are to die for! Recently I had lunch there and was again pleased. The menu is extensive and does include many home smoked specialties. It is inexpensive and friendly. I recommend this highly for a quick inexpensive breakfast or lunch. It is a step above your average diner. I must also mention the décor… vintage pictures and model trains. Fun to look at! There is a very obvious regular crowd as I see the same people there week in and week out and am always greeted with a smile and my cup of tea!

I was here about a week ago and I had taken a trip up north to go camping at High Point. My friend and I though it would be best to the end the trip by going to a diner after we check out. I was scrolling through the different diners on Unilocal and this one caught my eye when I noticed the reviews. She thought I was ridiculous passing a diner or two along the way, but I told her to trust me I think this will be worth it. It was a Sunday and when we arrived there was a long line that I didn’t think we would be seated for another half hour or so, but quickly people were getting seated. We decided to sit at the counter. I’m giving this a 4-star because I felt the hectic pace and noticed that our server was either overwhelmed or stressed. I felt bad asking for anything after I already ordered. It took her a while to get my friends cut up bananas and my glass a milk. I’ve been to quite a few diners and noticed that the wait was longer than usual for this experience. Now to end with a positive, the menu is ridiculous, the good kind. There were dishes available that I never seen at other diners and I was ecstatic to see they had chorizo sausage! I rarely see different options of sausages at a diner, so I ordered that with my usual eggs and rye toast. Definitely a satisfying meal to end a good camping trip. I will see myself going here again as a nice ending to future camping trips.

This restaurant is totally overrated. It is small and has limited seating. The waitresses are either really nice or totally rude. I saw the owner and he was making fun of customers out of their earshot after being nice to their face. I will never go there again.

I take my son here just so he can have the triple cheeseburger! The pulled pork is my personal choice. Great atmosphere, and I love looking at all the old time photos everywhere!

Not one of my better experiences here today. I ordered crepes and they were very greasy & not very flavorful. The syrup that was served with them was very watery & also lacked flavor. But I’ll still re-visit.

I’ve been coming here since it first opened (Before the fire). Always great food and service. If your a breakfast fan the meat lovers omelette is great. For lunch or dinner the smoked brisket is awesome! The waitresses are always on their game with coffee and taking orders. The owner(Eric) is there all the time. You won’t be sorry driving a few extra minutes out of your way to make it here. Not open on Sunday afternoon.

The best breakfast in Sussex County, New Jersey. Atmosphere is awesome(like a little pop culture museum) Eric the owner is a pro and like what he does. My favorite is the banana walnut pancakes but you can’t miss.

This diner used to be cool. It was built out of an old railroad car but then it caught fire and burnt to the ground. Tragic. After a long period of time, it reopened and now has a little more space. I feel that the diner food is about average. They don’t have many unique menu items. I would rather drive ALL the way to the Jefferson Diner for brunch or dinner(that’s about 35 minutes). Also, what is with the hours? A diner closing at 2PM on a Sunday? NOOOO. That’s still brunch time. It also closes at 8 during the week and some people are just getting home at that time. It’s a good value for the food, but since I can’t give a half star, I’m at 3.

This place lost a star due to the absolutely awful home fries.(how do you mess that up so horribly) The pancakes were good, not great. The bacon was cold and tasted like straight campfire. Service wasn’t too bad. Fairly priced. Décor is kind of cool. I’d try it again but it definitely needs improvements!
