walking into a business and being treated like a Radical Islamic Terrorist before taking that second step through the door… Well that special moment goes to Provisions. Was it our relaxed smiles and hand holding that threatened you? My lightweight dress or my husband’s summer shorts? The absence of a suicide vest that tipped you off that we were dangerous conniving thieves worthy of being attacked? All of the above? Anyone who has spent a decent amount of time, say a morning or daytime stroll would see that Sutter Creek, being over 100+ years old, is made up of old buildings, doors to here or there, stoned pathways that lead everywhere and homes-turned-warehouse-turned-business-turned-hipster hangout. I would post pictures to prove my case but i will just encourage you to visit my little town to see for yourself. So, last night my husband and I walked to Hotel Sutter for an early dinner(fantastic, I’ll write that review next) afterwards we went for a walk around our neighborhood and as we neared provisions I was excitedly pointing out a new tasting room coming in when we heard loud happy music and laughing chatter coming from the Bar. Seeing as neither of us had a chance yet to check this place out and we finally had a babysitter, my husband suggested we go in and have a beer. I obliged, we walked thru the patio and headed towards the open, lighted door where the music was coming from and we knew Provisions to exist. Now earlier I said I was two steps in but to be fair, my husband was leading us so he would technically be three steps in when we realized we had entered what looked like the kitchen. We realized our mistake at that moment and started backing up but it was too late– the man in there nearly pisses himself and went on a rampage. What is a rampage? It started with the flailing of his arms repeatedly, motioning us to shoo away like flies. Then came the«we’re closed! Private party! Get out!» Frantic yelling and then, even though we were already headed out and back down the path, he started chasing us, purposefully knocking in to my back with his shoulder so he cOuld get to the open gate(a small iron garden gate– not a fence mind you) and started rambling about how needed to chain it up and ended our interaction with a snide remark about how we couldn’t have possibly believed that was the entrance. Insinuating that we were therefore not to have a beer and enjoy live music, but something much more sinister. Because only evil(or stupid) people would think that an open back path to a lighted Bar playing live music would be a legitamite way to enter a business. Sadly, seeing as we are local now and my husband enjoys beer and beer making, I truly did have a plan to walk over to Provisions and make a substantial purchase of beer, Provisions gear, and make arrangements for him to attend the Beer camp coming up as his Father’s Day gift on Sunday. But after truly atrocious treatment not only would we not be comfortable ever going back, but we will be sure to tell everyone else about our experience as well. And I would put a lot of money as a bet that yes, that back patio that we thought was an entrance has definitely been considered for remodeling and use for Provisions. so the fact that we couldn’t «possibly think this was an entrance» only suggests that there isn’t enough business sense to see the same. It’s a beautiful open space with a large shade tree and free of trash and weeds. A few tables and string lights would make for a beautiful outdoor seating area. Duh.

A wonderful, one of a kind establishment that has powerful roots to 19th century California. Run by the nicest people you could hope to meet. A must!

If you want a great beer, this is the place to go! I have tried one of the IPA sours and and a dark stout with bourbon. Can’t say enough good things about either! The atmosphere is also fun and they play live music on Sundays and throughout the week. Fun place to hangout with friends and if you go in on a Sunday afternoon they even have board games for adults or kids.

Well, all we did was walk in a shop around a bit. I bought some unusual food items. My friend went back with her husband on a Sunday to dance. They liked it.

Beers great, food and goodies in the room over, sold by provisions, all looks awesome, trendy, and delish. Beers changed constantly as soon as the kegs run dry and they move to another beer so you can sample the next greatest thing. This is our 4th time here this stay and there is live music and singing, some of which is done by the owner, Darren. Live music is great if you like country and the vibe is just so happy and lovely. 100% recommend and it is a must do here in sutter creek!!! Just chill out in the lounge area and RELAX with a cold one!!!

Been following this business since peering thru the dusty windows of the vacant space and imagining the possibilities to visiting it a couple of times after it opened and having a chance to personally compliment the owners over beers at the tasting bar. SCP offers a great assortment of specialty food and drink items in a fantastic gold-rush era space. It was my new favorite place and I planned to stop in every time I visited Sutter Creek. A year or so later, I’ve got a beef, and I write this not to slam the business but in the hopes that the owners will clue in on something they’re doing that I don’t think they intend to. If you wander into the bar area before 2:00 pm, you’ll likely be told that it doesn’t open until 2:00 but you can buy a bottle of beer from a cooler and additional charges will apply if you decide to consume it onsite. Or you can just come back at 2:00… The net effect is that you feel like you’ve just been shooed out of a business that you really wanted to support. That it would be better for you to find another establishment in town that doesn’t find it inconvenient to serve customers at noon. The food I was planning to buy went back on the shelf and I didn’t come back at 2:00. I was initially bent out of shape but knowing the owners to be nice people, want to give them the benefit of the doubt. I have to assume there’s some business reason behind bar hours that have them turning away customers, but would suggest that some signage, an explanation, or at least an apologetic tone would help to ensure that people don’t walk away feeling like they’ve committed some offense or inconvenience.

This is a great low key owner run with a constantly changing list of great local draft beers. Rustic atmosphere with original wood floors and country music. Live music Sunday afternoons at 3 pm. Half the place is Sutter Provision groceries where you can buy a sandwich or cold cuts and cookies and bring them in to the bar half. Love the drive to Sutter as well as the town of Sutter Creek.

Kind of an odd setup. Took a look around, but wasn’t really feeling the place. They do have a pretty good selection of beers and a number of knick knacks and canned deli items. Nice people working there.

Great beer selection. Good atmosphere. Fun events. Just what this sleepy little town needed. Now if only they could just get the city to let them stay open a little later…

This place makes you feel happy from the moment you walk in. How could it not with a darling store, comfortable atmosphere, and craft beers galora along the bar wall? We enjoyed some sides and beers after a day of wine-tasting and shopping in adorable Sutter. The bartender was happy to direct me to a beer he thought I’d like and offered tastes to be sure. Definitely stop in to this airy, upbeat spot. Get something from the store to give to someone else, or to remind you of the good feeling you had when you were here.

My family has a cabin up in the Sutter Creek area and downtown is a quick jaunt down the road. I was headed up for a quick day trip with some lady friends and popped into Sutter Creek Provisions on a whim. The downtown area seems to be having a bit of a resurgence as there are lots of hip new spots to dine and drink at. Sutter Creek Provisions is definitely a cool little place. There’s a tap room with a pretty good selection of beers, and a gift/bottle shop to the other side where you can purchase food, beer, trinkets and the like. I can’t wait till my next Cabin weekend so I can give this place a twice-over and try out their tap selection.

Not a bad place for a snack and a brew. I hung out here for a while to rest and write, while enjoying the bartender’s recommendations. And they help me find my way back to the highway.

Provisions is my favorite business in Sutter Creek. Excellent craft brew selection, great people, and a wonderful ambiance of live music, Americana, and good times. DON’T come here if you want Coors Light and a basket of pretzels. DOCOMEHERE if you want an ever changing selection of IPAs, porters, stouts, sours, and other special and unique beers. Live music most Sundays. This is truly the locals spot to hang out. 5 stars!

Loving this place. Plenty of craft brews on tap and the place just had a really cool Gold Country vibe, but updated for the modern age. Look for the Walken Cooler as you head to the restroom. The best part though was the attached store. Wines, beers, cheeses, spices and all kinds of goodies to pick up. I found some beers from England I hadn’t seen anywhere and the prices were more than reasonable. Great place.

Let’s just say I was a little blown away by this establishment. A fine food market in one room, offering a whole variety of quality tasties including some gluten free eats. And in the other room, a great bar with very cool décor. I love the history in the architecture, all the fixtures and art. Very cool place, run by some nice folks too. I hope to visit again sometime on another journey. *Road Trip 2015*

Not perfect of course, but what a great idea for a new one of a kind local business. It’s clear from all the buzz that it fills some gaps in Sutter Creek and is off to a great start. My partner’s a beer lover, and he was impressed with the selection and interactions of the barkeep who is very friendly and talkative, if not 100% accurate. I liked the gourmet deli foods and the elbow room and atmosphere that they have created in both the shop and the bar, though some of the food prices are a bit outlandish. They need a good sound system to be a good music venue. It’s loud and the sound quality is poor in the bar area where groups perform. Still, it’s a great start(both the PO and MO) and I do sincerely hope they can keep it up for the long haul. I know what a grind this type of business can be. Best of luck to SCP. Hope they invest in a good sound system, and some more varied and reasonably priced food options for on-site consumption. This isn’t Beverly Hills. Parking’s a problem so you may want to go early if attending an event there.

How often do you stop into a place and find that the locals are rooting for it so much, they pitch in for free? Provisions is such a place. We live in Sutter Creek and work in the Bay Area. We come in several times a week and are always amazed that the beer selection changes almost daily. We offer to help clear tables but are beaten to it by our neighbors. The owners, Darin and Casey, are so welcoming and knowledgeable about their wares(craft beers and specialty groceries) that navigating the variety is a breeze. Sutter Creek is a great little town with big character and a lot of places to explore. Come in to Provisions, grab a beer, peruse the cheeses and meats(our favorite combo is Midnight Moon cheese and a fennel salami), and find a booth or table. The hours will start to melt away as you notice that the warmth of the people and surroundings are rubbing off on you. Look out! You’re a local.

This place is great & has a TON of potential. I used to live in Sutter Creek & got the hell out because there is nothing there for a 20 something(at the time) to do! Well, that has changed, or I should say is changing. I am glad I was in town today to visit a friend and she suggested coming here. There are 2 parts to Sutter Creek Provisions. The first is a specialty grocery store. Cheeses(and we all know how much I LOVE cheese), meats, bread, crackers, spread, wine, beer, bloody mary mix — from Preservation & Co. here in Sac! Their selection is pretty f-ing amazing & diverse for Sutter Creek. The second area is a bar. We got some sandwiches and ate in the bar area. It is a very welcoming, well decorated bar. It has an old rustic, but modern look. Not a trashy country bar, which I have been to & is what I would expect in Amador County. There is a cute little stage in the corner, which will probably be host to mostly country bands given the area — I am not a fan of country in case you can’t tell. However if I still lived here I would definitely be a regular. I was told they don’t serve food after 6, which is a shame if that is the case. People want to have some snackies when they drink. You have a grocery store right there, utilize it! Their beer on tap today was an okay selection. Being about an hour away from Sacramento I was hoping to see some local beers. When I brought that up to the man behind the bar(he was possibly the owner) he said they had some Track 7 coming in, and he is meeting with Device, New Helvetia and Ruhstaller. YES! I told him how amazing New Helvetia’s Naked Coffee Stout is and he said he liked Ruhstaller’s The Sauce… now this guy knows his beer! I am happy that Sutter Creek is getting a place to enjoy some craft beers. LONG overdue! While it wouldn’t be enough for me to move back to this small(charming) little town, I will have to make a point to visit my friends in the sticks more often! I look forward to what they will be doing in the future.
