Umaido is a great place to ear if you’re in the mood for noodles. The place is small, but they have wonderful food. I love their ramen, because of the flavor of the broth and toppings. This is definitely a family place, and the food comes out pretty quickly. I went with my friends, and they ate a lot of ramen, and the apps are amazing. MY favorite is the takoyaki. One of japans staples, but it is a very good dish, I hope everyone comes and enjoys the food

It’s been a while in I have been here and the menu has expanded since then. The ramen was good but something about the pork is off. It was WAY chewier then I remember and no flavor. Soy egg was delicious. It took them longer to come and take our order then for the order to come out. Added the 4th star cause they were playing animal planet!

We ordered Tonkotsu ramen. The dried ramen noodle was not cooked fully and very hard. My wife actually had to ask them to cook again, and they brought another bowl for her, but it was still very hard, and not fully cooked. Later, I understand you can order hard, normal or soft noodle. Sadly, waiter didn’t advice and we didn’t know. And the kitchen might have assumed the hard noodle is the norm for everybody? The noodle was made in house, but I can’t find the difference from those delivered from a wholesale warehouse. The soup and pork were also very salty, is that their definition of ‘rich’? I hope not! We actually had to drink lots of water to balance it. Overall, it’s a disappointing experience.

My first experience having real ramen in Umaido didn’t live up to my expectations. The pictures made me salivate so I was really looking forward to my first bowl. Any suggestions? I’ll start my review on our orders. I had the honey miso ramen with a spicy sauce on the side. My boyfriend ordered the ultra spicy level 50 and his son ordered the level 25. I liked the honey miso by itself but it tasted much better after adding the spicy sauce. The level 50 is supposedly the spiciest but it honestly didn’t do anything to any of us. We have a high tolerance for spice so for someone who doesn’t might want to start with maybe level 20 – 25. Also, the spicy sauce that they add is also very sweet that the sugar over powered the spice flavor. I couldn’t tell or taste what kind of pepper was on the sauce. The noodles are good though! But nothing else special about the soup flavor. I also felt that the contents of the bowl were small for the price lol(I think $ 10 for a bowl) One more thing about the soup that kind of disappointed me was that it wasn’t hot enough. Temperature hot. The place does accept kids but it’s not as kid friendly. The place is pretty small so letting a toddler sit on a high chair in the spaces between tables make it hard for others to walk by. Also the plastic cup our server gave my 4 year old son had a built in straw but didn’t have a lid on it(non disposable). I was a server for 2 years before and I knew better to put a lid on a child’s cup bc accidents happen and guess who has to clean spilt liquid? It just makes it easier for the server and customers if spilling could be prevented. I felt like it was common sense but maybe they didn’t have any disposable cups with lids. If that’s so, then that’s something they need to think about. Or maybe they ran out? The place is a couple doors away from Mozart which is a dessert joint. :) So if you’re craving for something sweet afterwards then definitely stop by Mozart.

I love this place! The best in town! I would risk a 40 mins drive just to have dinner or lunch here and it would worth every minute of it! I brought a couples people here and I never hear complain from anyone! I got every hooked! I’m glad they decided to open another in buckhead now

Atmosphere is nice– kind of small. One wall has cool drawings and writings. Very good food. I had the tonkotsu, seaweed salad and edamame. Service was great. Table and chairs were dirty– need to clean up better. I will return.

I ordered the seafood ramen, great presentation and plenty of seafood to be found. The scallops were delicious. The server was great, very attentive. One star off because the broth and texture of their ramen didn’t quite blow me away. Too salty? Didn’t have that something something?

Loved the Ramen noodles. Just getting exposed to fresh Ramen noodle cuisine. Have I been missing out. This place has many varieties and toppings. I enjoyed 3 spice level :). Will be there many many times.

The pork buns were ok. Definitely not up to NYC standards, but tasty. Service was pretty aweful as others have said, had to remind them a couple times about my beer order, which didn’t arrive until after I had finished my appetizer. Ramen is definitely good, and I’ll be back, in spite of their aloofness to my patronage… but I will skip the pork buns.

A Unique and delicious Ramen bowl that I truly look forward to 1 – 2 times a week. This is a rare find indeed within Atlanta, because outside their new location it’s hard to find a ramen shop that is actually delicious! I have had a number of their bowls, and have yet to be disappointed. Their egg is perfectly marinated, and their broths are the most unique blend of Korean and Japanese fusion that I have tasted so far. I appreciate their attention and curiosity that they have taken within me as a customer, and I really enjoy introducing their cuisine to the rest of family and friends! Honestly, I would of wrote this review sooner if it wasn’t for the fact that I don’t want the whole world to know about them yet! I recommend to try their ultra spicy Tonkotsu level 2 – 3 or their original Tonkotsu!

I’ve visited Japan many times, and am a huge fan of Ramen. The biggest complaint I’ve had is I haven’t had anything I felt was that good or came close to what I had overseas back in the US. I’ve tried to find good Ramen from recommendations we’ve gotten in Florida, Los Angeles, New York and more and hadn’t found any I thought was up to snuff until now. Now this isn’t the best Ramen I’ve had, but definitely the best I’ve had in the US. They had an authentic Japanese Ramen restaurant look when you come in minus he vending machines where you order, and a lot of what they have on the menu is close as well. Was happy to find Orion beer which I don’t see often from over there either. I ordered the spicy miso ramen with extra pork and some pan fried Gyoza. I wasn’t a big fan of the Gyoza, but the flavor of the ramen was outstanding. I like spicy foods, and this wasn’t really spicy had just enough spice for flavor. I would probably go hotter my next visit. I will definitely be visiting again next time I’m in town really happy we found this place.

Look for the door with the huge chopsticks! Umaido is the only place I have tried Japanese ramen in Georgia, and it doesn’t compare to the ramen I’ve had in California(but that’s probably an unfair comparison). FOOD: If you have never tried Japanese ramen, it’s a great place to try it out for a reasonable price. If you’re not craving noodles, they also have rice dishes. However, I found the rice dishes to be too small. ATMOSPHERE: I love the atmosphere, but the seating can feel cramped at times, whether you’re sitting at the raised tables next to strangers or a table for two.

After my first visit here 3 years ago, I thought Umaido had the best ramen ITP/OTP. I live ITP, so I only make the long trek out to Suwanee on special occasions.(I usually just go to Shoya for ramen) Jalapeño takoyaki: good but we could not appreciate any jalapeño taste Pork belly: very tender and flavorful but the chunks were huge! Spicy Miso Ramen with more flavor(+$ 1): broth wasn’t very flavorful even though I did the extra flavor boost. The noodles were fine. The pork was fine. I wasn’t impressed with the appetizers or ramen. I was surprised by how little flavor the broth had even thought I opted for the more flavorful option. Shoya has really improved their ramen over the past couple years — the spicy miso broth at Shoya is way more developed and flavorful. If you live ITP, save yourself the gas/time/trouble and go to Shoya.

One of the best ramen spots in Atlanta(and fairly cheap to boot)…My boyfriend and I both agree on what this restaurant’s rating should be, which is a rare occurrence: — we started with the braised pork belly, which was tender and moist… my only qualm is that the cuts of meat were too thick, and I would’ve liked the pork belly in thinner slices — I had the ultra spicy ramen level 10(the server said level 50 is the highest they go but warned against ordering it), and it was delicious. I think I could go up to level 20… the ramen noodles had a different texture than most — my boyfriend had the seafood ramen and loved it — the place loses a star only because service was a bit lacking… the servers were very nice and tried hard but often forget to bring essentials(water, napkins, etc) to the table until we asked

Solid place for Japanese ramen. It’s no Ippudo — but still good enough to fulfill that ramen craving. Please note, for vegetarians: there is only one soup option(soy milk base), which is what my friend had. It had unique taste, which I would only recommend for soy milk lovers, due to the very strong soy milk flavor. Personally, I had the spicy miso ramen which I would recommend as starter. The broth was flavorful, noodles had a nice chewiness, and the pork belly was the highlight(just wish they would add more slices!) Service was so-so: we had a forgotten appetizer dish, and there was initial confusion over what could be made vegetarian. For the adventurous: they also have a spicy ramen bowl challenge, free if you win. Interested? I challenge you to find out…

I love Umaido. The ramen is delicious, the employees are always nice, food comes out fast, and the restaurant is cute. We’re normally seated at a two top table against one of the walls that are covered in drawings and doodles, so there’s always something interesting to look at. * My personal favorite is the Seafood Ramen($ 12.95) with an addition of Chasyu [roasted pork]($ 3⁄3 pieces). The seafood in their seafood ramen comes with shrimp, squid, and SCALLOPS! Yum! Although that’s delicious, sometimes I don’t really want to fork out ~$ 16 for ramen, so I’ll just order the Tonkotsu Ramen($ 8.95), which is also delicious. I tried the Honey Miso Ramen once, but I didn’t care too much for it. Unfortunately I don’t remember the specifics as to why, but I remember making a mental note not to order it again. * Aside from the Ramen, I also like their Hirata Buns($ 2.50 each) & the Takoyaki($ 6⁄6 pieces). Their Hirata Buns are pork in a steamed bun with a spicy sauce, mayo, and lettuce. I don’t typically do spicy, but the sauce they use isn’t that hot. These buns are small, but really good! If I’m not very hungry or not in a Ramen mood(which is rare lol), I’ll just order a couple Hirata Buns. The takoyaki [grilled octopus stuffed ball] is pretty yummy, too. I’ve ordered it a few times and always like it. A couple things I’ve noticed that give Umaido an edge on its competitors is that they offer seafood ramen and spicy ramen. Mizumi doesn’t offer a seafood ramen. This doesn’t mean their Tonkatsu isn’t good, because it is(usually), but sometimes I just want my seafood ramen! & I wasn’t able to try Raku Tonkatsu + Ramen’s Seafood Ramen because we left after learning they don’t offer spicy ramen. When we asked about it, they said they can bring out spicy sauce on the side. While I don’t like spicy food, my girlfriend loves it. She practically drenches tabasco or sriracha on most of her food and she loves Umaido’s Ultra Spicy Ramen Level 10(their spicy scale goes from 1 – 50). Mizumi does have a spicy ramen, but not on a level system and it seems like the spicy food lovers I know think it’s lacking. There’s an abundance of good restaurants in Gwinnett, so I normally like to try somewhere new whenever I eat out. With that being said, I’ve been to Umaido several times since my first visit in May. It’s just that good. And CONSISTENTLY good!

Was recommended to go here for a weekend trip to Atlanta. Definitely quite a drive from DT but it looks worth it so far based on what I’m seeing of the interior. Feeling a bit cold today and the restaurant decided to keep their A/C on it seems. Brr! Will report back after meal… Ok! Tonkatsu was ordered and onigiri. The bowl was reasonable for the price. Noodles were flawless in the size and consistency. Haven’t seen wood ear in ramen before but it added a good texture to each bite. The only tragic negative to this bowl was that the egg was not runny! Onigiri wasn’t anything special. It was tasteless and oily. There wasn’t any complexity to it. Not worth the $ 4. Last ding to Umaido is that our checks were mixed up. Service was pleasant otherwise. Verdict: it was decent but not a WOW!

When I finally crossed Umaido off my Atlanta restaurant bucket list, it felt like building up a celebrity crush to perfection in your mind and then realizing that they didn’t quite meet your expectations in real life. As much as I wanted to love this place, I didn’t leave feeling like I couldn’t wait to plan my next visit back. We made the 35 minute trek here from Midtown for a double lunch date. It was early Sunday, before the post-church rush, so no wait to be seated. There was a lot of anxiety about what to order. Everything sounded good. I went with the tonkotsu ramen with rich broth and added corn. It was good(the egg was perfect) but not incredible. I tried my boyfriend’s spicy miso ramen and wished I had gotten something with a little more flavor. My box of Shin Ramyun that lives permanently above the fridge should be proof that I am no ramen snob, but perhaps my standards had been set too high by my soul shattering Wasabi experience in Chicago. I’m hoping what I ordered just wasn’t my calling and that my ramen soulmate is still waiting for me somewhere else on the menu. There are many other flavors to try, so I know I’ll be back eventually to give it another shot.

Yeah I think I am going to give this place 3 stars again. The ramen is definitely good. The honey miso ramen is one of my favorites for sure. I cannot give it 4 or 5 stars because the service is just never up to par. Every time I go I have to flag down a waitress to put in my order. Then it takes a good while for the food to come out. This time on a Saturday evening it was a bit longer than usual. So much that I ran out of toys to entertain my infant with! We had to ask for waters. Then the draft beer my friend ordered was out. The second option bottled beer was out too. Annoyed infant + slow service = frustrated mommy. We order takoyakis and I was certainly underwhelmed. My husband and I love these and we order it wherever we go that has it. Here they were teeny and I had to eat three before I found one squid piece in those fried squid balls. Kind of disappointing. So once again, 3 stars because I would certainly go back, but ONLY for the ramen. If I find a place closer to my house with better ramen, it will be over for sure :(
