My mom and I stopped in here after a walk at the refuge. The front service wasn’t too bad, but not great either. The sitting area was clean, open and nicely done. It was nicer than I expected it to be! Now for the most important part! We got nachos with beef and a chicken bacon ranch pizza. The nachos were good tasting but a little too crunchy in places. Now the pizza on the other hand was a big miss, the chicken chunks were huge and the ranch sauce was meh, the crust was so thin it couldn’t handle anything. It was a mess of a pizza. I didn’t even eat one whole slice, before working some more on the nachos. Mom said it was the worse pizza she has had. Maybe next time a pepperoni pizza would be better!

Good pizza, great pizza sauce, expensive prices, semi-friendly staff, long time business. Swanton House of PIzza or SHOP has been a staple go to pizza place from my childhood to adult, Shaggy’s being our second choice and now last. The food is great, the place is normally very clean, along with the kitchen which is wide open from the ordering location(front counter). The staff left something to be improved on, they were very attentive and quick to check us out, but their attitudes were less than favorable. I would overall recommend this place, even given the 3 stars. I gave one less star because their cheese is a bit cheap which I can tell because it upsets my stomach when others don’t, and one additional less star because of the staff’s attitudes.

It doesn’t get better than Swanton House of Pizza. Whenever I’m in the area, I always make sure to come by. Each time, I’m worried that it’s not as good as I remember, and it always turns out it’s better. Hopefully I’ll be making another trip by soon.

Definitely NOT the same Swanton House of Pizza I grew up with under the owner ship of a lovely Greek Man named Tim(I believe his youngest son, Arthur is the owner of Tim’s Place in St. Albans). The people behind the counter are rude and appear to be put out to give you your order or run your debit card. The pizza itself just doesn’t taste the same and the baklava is definitely not made on site. If I remember correctly Tim’s lovely Wife Mary would make the baklava back in the day. Of course things change, the SHOP is one of those things, and so is my patronage of the place.

We lived in Calais from 83 — 97, and loved going to SHP. Then moved to Maine, and had pizza withdrawal, as the stuff they called pizza there was doughy, soggy, tasteless, and just plain awful. Oh we missed our«Greek» style pizza that SHP did well when Tim was there. So we moved back to the area this year, and though a different owner, the pizza and food is still great! Though now we split our time between Tim’s Place and SHP, we are grateful things have remained pretty true to what it was back when we were here prior. One of my faves is there meatball pizzas, which they put sliced meatballs on.

We had the House Pizza. The staff was was super friendly. They made our New York family feel like part of the community as soon as we sat down! A couple of TVs to catch the game on and fountain drinks. Great job guys! We will be back!

My fiancé and I dropped in on a whim and tried a meatball grinder and a small BBQ chicken pizza. On a Saturday afternoon this place was empty except for us two. Slices only available during the week, possibly suggesting a busier weekday lunch crowd. Real silverware, good selection of beer and wine. Grinder was delicious, pizza okay. Parking out front, restrooms downstairs. Friendly staff.
