Very sad. Seems like they are shut down. They were the best Chinese place in the area.

Not very tasty, very mediocre American Chinese. their duck dishes are okay… the seaweed soups pretty good too… Just overpriced for the taste of it.

Food was great and full of flavor the portions were more than I expected!, the delivery to my hotel was fast and the driver clean and polite, Being stuck in a hotel and from out of town it was great to have decent food while working on the road for weeks. I hope to be back and order again. I was very satisfied all around with this meal the vegetables and fish were fresh and the Cantonese soup was more than I could finish. Wish I could have taken it on the plane out with me. Loved it.

excellent, reliable, reasonably priced chinese food in a university town setting. since arriving here more than ten years ago, Cheng Hing have provided consistently reliable service & quality. Their lunch special from 12 – 3 costs an amazing $ 4.50 and include hot soup or an eggroll, tea, and an entrée off their lunch special menu. Vegetarian selections abound. Best lunch deal around, and great for biz mtgs. The dinners are great and a great dinner can be had by just ordering appetizers and 1 – 2 entrees. They have reliable take out and a very zen, peaceful sit down restaurant.

I don’t get all the hate for this place. I’ve been going here since they opened and really love it. It is unbeatable for the price. They have awesome value combination meals. That being said I am reviewing the restaurant based on price vs food quality, which I think is outstanding. Ambiance is like negative 10 stars since it seems like they converted the front of it into their child’s playroom, which does not make for a pleasant eating experience but you have to know that the price doesn’t buy everything. They are pretty much the only Chinese restaurant I still know that gives hot tea for free and those fried things with duck sauce. They have the best duck sauce ever which I think is homemade since it is far better then the stuff that comes out of the packet. nom nom

AWFUL. I mean how can you get fried rice wrong? Not very appetizing… Taste like crap.(Had fried rice and sesame chicken combo). Meh. Definitely below par for American Chinese food.

I have been going to Cheng Hing for years, and it’s probably one of my favorite places to go for Chinese Food. Their combination platters can’t be beat in price, and their lo mein is the best I’ve ever had and it’s VERY flavorful(I now can’t eat it from anywhere else without being severely disappointing in the lack of flavor). The only thing I would say that would even be remotely negative about Cheng Hing is to check your take out order before you leave the store. It’s never 100% correct. But once you tell them what you’re missing or what you need, they run and get it for you right away.

Cheng Hing is everything a cheap Chinese restaurant should not be. Forgive me my harsh words, but why must there be such a sacrifice of authenticity and effort towards making good Chinese food? I know for a fact that there exists a very achievable balance of price and quality in regards to Chinese food without having to be located right next door to a grocery store. Oh my dear goodness! I’ve given this place plenty of chances(I’ve tried their take-out twice, and dined in twice), and I am never ordering from this place again. Sorry if I sound like a bitter snob, but I have no choice. The first time I dined here was with a friend before winter break. We are seated promptly at a corner next to a family of 3. Clean tables? Not really Soy Sauce? Check Chili Paste? Check Chopsticks? Check Cool. Onto the menu! We ordered eggplant with garlic sauce, beef with broccoli, and vegetable dumplings. After waiting 15 minutes, we had our food, each served within a minute of each other. Eggplant with garlic sauce. Everything was slathered in sauce. As in drowned. There was no consistency in the eggplant, and I could taste none of it. This was not a dish well prepared. Beef with broccoli. The broccoli was hard as a rock! Undercooked, maybe? Not a good sign. The beef was very chewy. Could barely tear a piece apart without gargantuan effort on my part. What happened there? The vegetable dumplings. Please, please, please, some redemption. Umm… it tasted like soap. I’ve actually tasted dishwashing soap before, so I know the taste. The medley of vegetables inside the dumplings were barely warm. Okay. So now the dumplings were formerly frozen dumplings barely but sufficiently steamed, in addition to having a soapy taste? Disaster. We asked for the dish to be taken off our bill, or a substitute dish at the very least. What about the pork dumplings? After two verifications(I don’t think the waiter believed us), we got our dish, and… suffice to say, soapy taste. We simply asked for a take out box, paid our dues, and left. Take out. My friend ordered fried dumplings. The delivery person was quite nice and prompt, so kudos. However, he had a chicken dish instead. «I’m sorry sir, but this was not what I ordered». «Sorry.» That’s it. No offer to substitute or correct the wrong order. Wow. Thanks -.-. How do you mess up an order like that, nevertheless not offer any consolation for it? Ridiculous.

I sort of have to defend Cheng Hing, even though the service can be subpar some times and the hygiene is dubious. The delivery guy is always nice & prompt but the better option is really to dine in. Their General Tso’s chicken(when piping hot from the wok/fryer) & Beef w. Oyster sauce stay as a favorite part of my college memory. Lunch combos are also good values. As a chinese native, I def was not looking for authenticity. But to be honest, I was impressed for what it was(classic American Chinese fare) & even my parents liked it when they flew in from China.

Your run of the mill Chinese take-out joint. There’s really isn’t anything outstanding about it, but don’t get me wrong it’s not a bad place by any means. Chen Hing is reasonably priced along with decent size portions makes it a go to on my list for a quick bite.

Definitely better than Happy Wok(they wash their rice! whoa!). This is probably less commonly ordered, but their noodle soups are really good. Not quite Cantonese-style, but the soup is flavorful without being MSG-heavy and all of the options come with spinach, so you can finish an American Chinese takeout meal without feeling like crap. Every time I got sick as a college student, Cheng Hing noodle soup helped me get through the day.

Not feeling this place. Having eaten at so many Chinese restaurants, I think this is one of the worst I’ve come across. Keep your standards low and this place is great and is very convenient for Swarthmore College kids.

Familiar food, reasonable prices, friendly staff(especially once you become a regular)… exactly what you want from a place like this. The food varies a bit in quality, but I’ve never had a bad meal, and have had plenty of great ones.

I have gotten food here many times, a few times for takeout and a few times dining in and there has never been a time when I have been impressed with the food here. Don’t get me wrong, this restaurant is great for that late night greasy chinese food fix, however, beyond that it really isn’t a place that you ever want to go for a nice meal. Every time that I have dined in, the service has been abysmal at best, and the food will never go beyond the«bad greasy chinese food» label. In conclusion: After a long night of studying or drinking, the food here definitely hits the spot, but under any other circumstances, I would have to tell you to avoid this place.

The food here is usually a little too oily, with not enough of the specific item you ordered(two shrimp in my shrimp eggroll?), and the occasional mixup. Key word: FRIED. Great for a quick delivery in the evening, and definitely not so bad to sit in for a meal. I would recommend that one stick with the basics, though.

I used to really like Cheng Hing back when all I needed to eat was something cheap and hot. If you’re in that boat, then it’s probably a great choice. Now, though, I just find everything I get there to be greasy and lackluster. They have all the basic«Chinese» food fare and while I can still enjoy the dumplings or wonton soup from time to time, I generally can find better places to eat. That being said, it is one of the only places in Swarthmore open past 10.

It is with a heavy heart that I say unto incoming Swarthmore students that Cheng Hing’s is really an appalling parody of Chinese food(or even Americanized Chinese food). To give an example, the mu shu vegetable is literally straight cabbage dripping in oil. And speaking of oil, it tends to permeate everything and anything that you order from Cheng Hing’s. While I have never found the language barrier to be prohibitive, I have experienced a good deal of rudeness from the staff on multiple occasions. Cheng Hing’s is the crowning achievement of Swarthmore’s paltry food offerings, and while it still receives ample late-night business from hungry, deprived Swatties accustomed to Sharples fare, do not be deceived into thinking that this denotes good quality.

It’s probably the best take-out Chinese in Swarthmore(I prefer it slightly to Cheng Hing) but I echo Calvin’s comments: the language barrier can be more than frustrating. I lived in Swarthmore for a year after graduating from college and I always went to China Wok in Ridley Park or China Moon(now closed and under different ownership) in Morton when I was craving deep fried faux-Asian fare.

The food was decent and I definitely would have come here again if we’d had better service. The woman who seated us, took our order, and brought our food had an unpleasant demeanor. She didn’t smile the entire night, until we were walking out the door. I don’t know why she was so unhappy; we came in hours before the official closing time, and we weren’t the only table. So, while almost everything we ate was good(beef with broccoli, sesame chicken, egg roll), it was mildly uncomfortable every time she came around. Side note, the BBQ pork appetizer was not too good and neither was the homemade iced tea.
