A great blue collar bar with a cool shuffleboard. There is a liquor store located right next door and the place is small with a decent neighborhood feel to the place. This is what a bar is suppose to be and is not ever going to be confused with the majority of pubs that are opening up in other snobby counties that look down on places such as this. nothing to complain about this place.

Ah, good old Cub and Spanks… Now I’ve only been coming here for the past couple of months, but they fulfill a couple of requirements I require in a bar. 1) cheap drinks. And I don’t mean this place is the kind of establishment that serves drinks in red solo cups, they serve them in regular plastic tumbler cups, and they’re not bottom shelf garbage liquids either. A Jameson and Ginger ale will set you back a whopping $ 4. I feel like I’m stealing from the bar when I drink here! This is a good thing. 2) conversational level of crowd noise. This place has never been so loud that I couldn’t hear the person I was sitting with, granted, we haven’t come here on a Friday or Saturday night, so consider that the asterisk. I prefer a place where u don’t need a bullhorn to talk to someone 3 feet away. 3) shuffleboard table. This place will always have a special place in my heart since I popped my shuffleboard cherry here on September 30th after closing out Charter Fitness. However, they’ve since replaced the old board with a new-fangled board with the prison bars that come up in the middle to avoid free plays, and the table is but crooked. Not that I’m a cheapskate and try to play for free, but the sand gets stuck in the holes so when you start a game, you have to manually push the bars in in order to allow your pucks to slide freely from end to end. I know, I know, #firstworldproblems 3) jukebox. Since the beginning if time, man has attempted to push forth their culture on those around them, and this is the perfect way to do it. You can even control the jukebox from your phone! Well, your smartphone at least. I don’t think your Motorola StarTAC is going to help you out here, nor will your Nokia 8200. 4) regulars. You will see the same people day in day out here, whatever day of the week. They may or may not remember that you had a conversation about whatever you had a conversation about, but they’re friendly. Or you can chalk it up to this place being a townie bar, but I won’t call it that. Come to Cubbies, sidle up to the bar, and maybe drop a buck on a game of shuffleboard or two. If I’m there, say hello and challenge me to a game. I might show you a thing or two. Or not. I’ve only been playing for a couple if months…

Whenever I’m hanging out with my friends in Sycamore, going to this townie bar is a must! I like the low-key atmosphere. It definitely has a dive bar atmosphere, but that’s part of its charm. The crowd is a nice mix of locals of all ages. I also like that the drink prices aren’t outrageous and as many have mention… they’ve got shuffleboard!(A must every time we visit!)

I agree with one of the reviewers below. Best dive bar in town! However, we only go when Ulpac is working. He is an amazing bartender and makes the best drinks! The shuffleboard is a blast and a nice change of pace from your typical bar games such as pool, darts etc… I also love the jukebox!

Cub n Spanks is a great little townie bar. It’s actually my favorite in Sycamore. There is plenty to do here from shuffleboard to golden tee. The bathrooms are clean and the drinks are strong; how they accomplish this, I’m not sure. Overall the crowd is a good mix of older townies and people in their late 20’s to early 30’s Opat and Tracy are seasoned bartenders and are always friendly. If you are looking for a place to get good drinks and converse with friends, Cub n Spanks has it all.

they got shuffleboard GAME! not the retirement home kind but the drunk kind you play with the townie un-MILFs. so… kinda’ the retirement home kind. Good mix of folks from the guy doing Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage impressions to 21 y.o. NIU chicks.
