Public Storage

I manage a large region for a CPG company and I usually have to rent storage units to receive samples. I was helped by Vanessa and Rocio who were very professional, informative and went above and beyond when it came to servicing my account. Downfalls in renting here are that I needed to purchase a special lock and pay a premium for climate control rental which I was able to overlook the the cost and would highly recommend Public Storage because of the way I was treated by the PS team at this location.

After searching and visiting 10 self-​storage companies I selected Public Storage at this location. Customer service was great, Rocio took her time so I can make sure I was comfortable with the unit I selected. The facilities are immaculate, well lit and secure. Knowing it has climate control is a definite plus. The pricing was very reasonable too. I just moved in so I can’t say too much yet regarding my experience here. I just hope that my rate doesn’t increase for at least a year, and those increases are in line with the inflation rate. So far five stars!

Moving putting furniture and items away can be stressful. However Vanessa was very kind welcoming and informative. And if you have any questions about storage or moving she’s got the answers. I am very pleased with the service at this particular location.

Customer service by Vanessa, Lidya, and Rocio was top notch! They are knowledgeable, friendly and answered all of my questions, great attitudes! Clean facility that’s temperature controlled, easy access to my storage unit, facility has flexible hours (6a-​9p). I recommend reserving online since discount is slightly higher than booking in person. Month to month contract, so far so good! Thank you!

The manager was nice, but (according to her) her bosses ‘make’ her do stuff like this: You are required to buy insurance from us (not true, and in the end I didn’t), Here is a 10×10 unit (the first one was actually 9×9, 20% smaller, but I held out until she offered me a full 10×10 unit), PLEASE buy some packing supplies, if your disabled mother-​in-​law can’t come in to sign personally then we won’t honor the online reservation you made (but she eventually did after making a call)…

Rocio was awesome. She knew exactly what I was looking for. She explained everything really well. Picked the right unit. Got me a great deal. Everything went quick and easy. Highly recommended!

I dealt with Amanda and Treesa on two separate occasions and both ladies were amazing. Super friendly, remembered my name and made sure that all my questions were answered before I left.

The two ladies in the offcie were awesome! they helped me out even though the marketing REP form the 800 number who was a complete A**H*** didnt listen to what i wanted and booked a reservation with disclosing information to me properly. The two associates at this location were able to assist me in correcting the incompitante mistake that the Marketing REP did, and they were able to accomidate me with the precise space that i needed. I have rented fomr here in the past and never have had any issues and or any problems with this property, it is very clean, not crowded and it is on a very non busy street.

Lydia and Amanda were both wonderful to deal with. I made my reservation at a different location on accident and they were able to accommodate me without any issues.

So, I originally rented a space at this facility when it was owned by KISS. It was very clean, brand new and the staff was always very helpful. Then Public Storage took over. Since then, over time, I’ve noticed that the unit which I pay a premium for in a «climate controlled» section of the building is frequently not climate controlled. We’ve heard one excuse after another about why the ventilation system isn’t working correctly. I don’t go visit my stuff often but when I did almost 2 weeks ago, we found out that the latest excuse is that the air conditioning unit was stolen. No ventilation at all, when it was 102 degrees outside. BTW, I have an upstairs unit, so just imagine how hot it was in the building! I would probably be a bit more understanding about this had they bothered to let their customers know. How hard is it to call people or send out a quick email to customers to alert them that the air conditioning is broken/​stolen? I just happened to drop in that day and found out about the air conditioning problem by chance and had not been to PS in months. I was told that it had happened the week before I was there, but as far as I know (because I don’t go there often) it could have been that way for weeks. I went to the office to complain and request a discount and was told that only «corporate» could do that. I pointed out that my rent of $ 180 is far above what anyone else could rent the same size unit for at $ 145. Yes, they raise the rent here substantially every year so BE AWARE of that too!
So…I called Customer Service who at first refused to speak to me because I’m not listed on the account — my husband is, only because they don’t allow a joint account or more than one person to be on an account. A conference call later and my husband and I are talking to a person. Long story short, she reduces my rent to $ 145 and I’m supposed to feel like I’m getting a deal. Note that the $ 145 is supposed to come with air conditioning as it’s supposed to be climate controlled, which it is not because the air conditioner was «stolen». Public Storage really doesn’t care, and they don’t care about your stuff. I was also directed to call the District Manager, which I did (twie), but as of yet, no one has bothered to return my call.
So if you come here wanting to store items that might require climate control storage such as painting, records, photos or slides… just don’t do it! On second thought, just don’t store anything here.

First of all, the office staff was great! Amanda was at the front desk and actually made my day by being very sweet, friendly and professional. I was in a tough jam and she made me feel very welcomed and assured me that Public Storage would be able to accommodate my needs. She covered all promotions and rates and invited me on a tour of the magnificently kept facilities. I agree with most of the other clients, the premises are super clean and accessible. I’m a very inquisitive person and I kept asking the staff several questions. They were all very patient and maintained their professionalism, while being humorous.

I would give negative stars if I could for their customer service… Horrible customer service! On my move in date they gave my reservation to someone else so I got stuck with a much higher price for same exact unit, if I didn’t have all my stuff in a uhaul I would have driven away but I didn’t have the time to do all that, then there elevator was broken so we had to move all our heavy ass furniture by hand up 2 flight of stairs. I talked to the «manager» who didn’t look a day older then 16yrs old and basically confirmed we were shit out of luck and she didn’t know when the elevator would get fixed.
This place went downhill after it became a public storage, I use to have a unit there when it was KISS and never had any issues.
And since my reservation was given to someone else under ALL my information when I use my email on their website to log in I can see the persons personal information to whom they gave my reservation too, so if your name is Marsel Watts I hope your enjoying my lower price unit I can see your credit card info and when you make payments & your gate code :)
When I advised the «manager» about this all she said was not to worry as long as he kept making payments … Lol wtf?!
I was there a few days ago moving all my stuff out and I think they finally hired new staff cause I didn’t see the same staff. Like seriously, the guy and girl that use to work there before were incompetent idiots.

Originally, this particular storage facility was owned and operated by another company called KISS. I knew the people there. They were fair, helpful, and their rates were reasonable. I would have given KISS a five star rating without thinking twice about it. They were that good.
Then, Public Storage bought the place. They immediately changed all the security devices. They added another security lock at the elevators which are a real pain in the neck. They locked up the wood dollies which used to be available inside. Now you have to go get a key and wait in line. Every time you enter the elevator, you have to enter your code. If you don’t do it fast enough, you’ll find yourself inside an elevator that isn’t going anywhere. It’s a ridiculous system. I mean, you’ve already entered a code to get into the facility. This is another code and if someone has a big load and takes their time getting out of the elevator, then you’re screwed. They prohibited entering my space from the back door of the building, which was closer than driving up front and going up three stories via the elevator (my spaces are on the 3^rd floor). So now the whole process takes longer and is a pain in the neck just to get to my spaces. When you’re already tired and are loaded with stuff, all these extra restrictions are not welcomed or helpful.
I have two fairly large storage buildings that I’ve leased since 2010. My initial price was $ 170 each. Once Public Storage took over the place, the price started going up every year without discussion. They just raise your rates. Once you’re in there, there is no discussion and the people at the front desk are powerless. People giving this place a good rating haven’t been here long enough. I mean, this isn’t downtown Hollywood. This is in Sylmar just south of the 210 freeway. It’s a nice facility, but it isn’t like you’re renting in a prime location next to a Starbucks.
Now, my rent is $ 234 for each building — an overall increase of $ 128 a month, and they tell me this is a «discounted» rate. So, I would advise anyone looking to rent here that this is typical of the Public Storage chain in general. Read the other reviews on other online services and most give PS a «1» rating. I’m being generous since the facility is generally neat. But it was clean before they took over so all they did was add restrictions, up the rates, and put people at the front desk that can only sell you stuff.
Finally, their website phone contact number, when I call them, does not recognize my phone number and so it won’t let me talk to a real person. I enter my account number, and the same thing happens. The reason they gave was that I have two buildings with the same phone number. Well, that’s my number. However, their website takes payments from me without hesitation. It’s all about the money. Keep that in mind if you decide to store anything here.
UPDATE:
since I wrote this review, Public Storage agreed to go back to earlier payment amounts this year and hold that amount for six months. So that is the first time PS has ever tried to do anything to help the situation. The issues with their elevator security system which is tough on everybody and extremely inconvenient, remains the same.

Amazing customer service ! I had a tremendous and pleasant experience with the staff. Rocio and Amanda were very helpful and informative about all the storage options offered. I highly recommend their service. The location is well secured and and very clean which gives you peace of mind.

I do like that the units are air conditioned, as well as the cleanness, they definitely take care of there lot as well as the inside of the building. Its really secure here.
I have been using this place when they were owned by K.I.S.S. and now there owned by Public. The sad part about this place is that the rent keeps going up and up and up and up. i started at 89.00 per month now were up to 130.00 per month and there going to raise it again.
Why is the Question?
They make plenty of money, But it seems that everyone pays a different price than one another as well, kinda fishy.

I find it hard to believe this place actually has so many good reviews.
We had our RV Camper stored in this facility. A few months later when we retrieved it we found there had been people living in it. Yes, living in it! It was trashed. Granted, not a lot of things were stolen but seeing the toilet paper rolls out next to a dirty toilet and a dirty sink its really not what I was expecting the place offered. Both vents were trashed — as that is how they were coming in and out.
And… apparently is a quite normal for them. Employees just offered us a: «I am sorry to hear that!» consolation. They were not even remotely surprised. We also found that the camper next to us had been broken into the same way. We asked the employees to let the owners know about the situation but they were completely nonchalant about it.
We found it this way on October 10^th, 2014. The monthly charged had been debited on the 1^st. They DID NOT even refund us for the rest of the month. Regardless of the situation of how we found it we had to keep on paying for the rest of the month.
We missed to realize then that the contract states that they are not liable for anything that happens to your stuff while it’s there. So they can virtually live in your vehicle, steal your stuff, pretty much do anything they please and you can’t really do much about. Be careful people. Make sure you don’t store valuable goods and PLEASE DON’T STORE YOUR RV HERE!
I sued them officially through Small Claims and I was able to retrieve $ 60 back. Not a whole lot the law can do for you when you sign their contract.

I booked, confirmed and moved into my unit within 5 days. The person who called was incredibly helpful and understanding of my inability to commit to a move in time (due to work) and the two women at the desk were wonderful and got me set up when I arrived very quickly. I would suggest this storage facility to everyone. I feel safe when I am there and my items are temperature controlled. The day I moved in it had to be 100 degrees out and it felt so good to step into the storage unit. Wonderful price, wonderful facility and most of all, wonderful customer service.

I was looking all over town (San Fernando/​Sylmar) for storage units. Public storage was by far the best! The facility was extremely nice and clean, the staff was very nice and helpful :) Let alone the price was affordable! Paid a tad bit more but it sure beats the other storage facilities that were old, ugly, creepy and not to mention they all had wood floors that were stained and dusty. I highly recommend this place!

I needed some last minute moving supplies (boxes, tape, etc) and this public storage was the closest place I could think of. I was a little hesitant at first since I had a bad experience at another location but I really needed the supplies asap! I was greeted by Steven who was more than happy to help me with what I needed. He didn’t try to sell me crap i didn’t need and made the process fast and easy. He even carried my items to the car, now thats what I call service! I highly recommend this location for storage and supplies. Thank you Steven!
