What do you do when it’s only 54° out? Go eat some ice cream! This is a local, favorite ice cream spot. One of the two locations that I know of. Now there is a rivalry between Arctic Island and Gannon’s. Both serve really good soft serve and hard ice cream. Different factions may beg to differ. Gannon’s seems to offer more options as to how to serve the ice cream. In cake cone, waffle cone, dipped waffle cones, flurries, smoothies and some other interesting seasonal combinations. I enjoyed my Black raspberry — orange with crunch coat twist. My aunt loves her maple walnut scoop o’ ice cream. Plenty of parking. And stays open till late hours. This may change once the fall season winds down. Tip the nice high school and college kids whose tip jar lists what colleges and universities they will be attending. Support local business.

This is the best ice cream in the world. Hand made deliciousness served to you by some really nice people. I’m going there now. You should too.

So good! Definitely not the typical baskin robins or coldstone. So many flavors and options they also have softserve ice cream. Espresso chip sunday is the way to go!

Thank you Gannon’s for helping me get an ice cream cake to my brother for his birthday. I live far from Syracuse, but a Gannon’s manager helped me get an order together on short notice and, while Gannon’s doesn’t deliver, I was able to have a cab pick up and deliver the cake. It was a big hit. Love Gannon’s ice cream and will definitely stop by every time I visit.

«It’s CLOSED?» «Looks that way.» «It said ten! Ten o’clock!» «We can go somewhere else. Maybe Pete’s is open — « “That is hardly the point! I don’t really even WANT ice cream, I just want GANNON’S.» A transcript of a conversation between myself and my father on the night of June 17th. My younger sister sat in the back seat of the car, looking generally ashamed to be related to me. I tried very hard not to strangle the life out of the steering wheel in my agitation. I was full of rage, disappointment, bafflement, and also pizza. All I wanted was a scoop of Charlie Brown. I was visiting Syracuse in the summer for the first time in two years, and it was a personal goal of mine to get to Gannon’s every day. Due to various miscalculations and ulterior motives, I only managed to make two visits, and it wasn’t nearly enough. Gannon’s does something incredible with their ice cream: they somehow manage to get creative while remaining traditional and simple — not going highfalutin or presenting golfball-sized scoops for obscene prices. The texture is perfect; the weight of the ice cream just feels so right on the cone, just looks so right there with its cold little ruffle peeking out around the neck. Even a Gannon’s veteran would have trouble checking every flavor off their list: the variety is broad and the quality high, tearing you between trying something new and leaning back on an old favorite. I’m especially fond of the black raspberry, the Rocky Mountain Raspberry, the maple walnut, and the Charlie Brown. The Shady Brook location is particularly pleasant: during the day you can stand outside the shop in the shade and listen to the brook babbling down the ravine, or take a seat on one of the rocks in the parking lot. Right now, though, the most I can do is curl up with a sad cup of yogurt and pray that UPS starts shipping boxes installed with mini-freezers before the end of the summer.

Places in Syracuse tend to be hyped up — which isn’t good for Manhattanites like myself. If you say it’s the best ice cream ever, say it’s the best ice cream in Syracuse please. Anyway, Gannon’s is DEFINITELY the best ice cream in Syracuse. The price for the amount of ice cream you get is so worth it — I got two scoops and could barely finish it — it was absolutely delicious. Next time, I’ll need to either get just once scoop or get it in a cup — it kept melting all over my hand. I wish this location had a few benches as well — but the rocks worked for seats so overall it was good. Definitely a must-go in Syracuse.

Gannons is delicious! Local ice cream made by Gannons itself in so many flavors, with 2 locations(1 seasonal, 1 year-round), and the go-to place for birthday ice cream cakes. Espresso chip is my favorite!
