I’ve been a wrestling fan for as long as I can remember, so when I found out there was a place that sold tons of old wrestling merchandise, I had to check it out. Gizmos is a small store in a small strip of buildings on Route 11. If you can’t find it, look for the door painted like a Game Boy. I expected there to be a lot more gaming merchandise than wrestling, but it was the other way around. I didn’t see much gaming merchandise the couple times I’ve been in, but there is a TON of wrestling merchandise. Old action figures, new action figures, from LJN to Jakks to Mattel. Huge selection of old magazines and posters, and a good selection of event used and autographed items. Everything’s more than reasonably priced. There’s even some original art you can pick up from a friend of the store. They hold weekly/monthly viewing parties of different shows and PPVs. Pat, one of the owners, is extremely friendly and knowledgeable and we had a long conversation about wrestling. Awesome little place for hardcore wrestling fans. Be prepared though, you may just find a ton of wrestling memories and be tempted to spend way more than you expected.

This is one of my favorite game stores. Not only is it within walking distance of my house, but it has a great selection of retro games. Pat, the owner, will also order almost any newer game you request. I’ve only had good experiences at Gizmo’s and sometimes I simply like to go in it just be in the atmosphere. I highly recommend coming here for your gaming needs

I was invited to the soft opening of Gizmo’s this week, and had the chance to meet the owners Rita and Pat, and also learn about their vision for their new store Gizmo’s(the store is open to the public now, but will have limited hours until mid May). Rita and Pat are opening a retail store in the age of the Internet, and while their competition – Voltage and Microgame(is that the right name?) – are opening more stores in the Syracuse area. Undeterred, Rita and Pat are facing the competition head-on by offering a little more money for video game trade-ins and also by selling their items for a little less than the competition(this is yet to be proven). They’re also selling unique toys, offering birthday party experiences and tutoring. The parties and the tutoring hasn’t started yet, so I’m not reviewing it. It’s a great concept, but it will need great execution too. For now, I’ll give this place 4-stars for sheer guts, a great concept, and because any new place to get used PS3 games is a welcome establishment in my book.
