Wound up at J. Ryan’s the other night after spending sometime at nearby Biergarten. We were all looking for grub and this place didn’t disappoint. Was fairly crowded for a late Wednesday evening with folks who were getting food, shooting pool or just enjoying drinks. Had the smokehouse burger which was cooked just right. Had a sizable beer menu as well. Everyone left J. Ryan’s with a full belly and the prices were very reasonable. Would definitely return.

My husband and I came here recently to meet up with a friend and had a great time. There is a pool table and dart boards inside along with some tvs and a relatively spacious seating area outside. We opted to stay inside to play a game of pool. The beer selection was great, drinks were well made, and the staff was friendly and attentive. We ordered the catfish sandwich to split, and it was delicious! The sandwich was ginormous and more than enough for the two of us to share. It had two big pieces of fried catfish with a well seasoned crust, and the bun it was on was soft and fresh. It came with a small side of tartar sauce and a side of macaroni salad. I wasn’t a fan of the macaroni salad, but I was so happy with the catfish that it didn’t matter. Prices were reasonable, and I also really liked how laid back the atmosphere was. We will definitely be back for some beers and food.

This place is are rare one that has garbage plates. Great beer selection and decent prices. The place is usually very crowded and moving around can be a bit of a pain. There is a nice patio for nice weather. The clientele here is mostly middle class and well mannered. J Ryans is a nice little bar slightly off the main grid that you should check out.

Yummmm so glad we came here! Used to go to undergrad in Rochester and got hooked on Tahoes; when I moved around since then I’ve always tried to find something similar and so far J Ryan’s Bubba plate has come the closest! It definitely hit my pregnancy craving! Although I personally could not indulge– they had a HUGE variety of craft beers! I can’t wait to come back to try some of their selections when baby’s out. The place was large and had multiple televisions. There was a pool table and dart board as well. We were there after 6 so parking was not difficult. We sat ourselves and a waitress came by almost immediately and took our drink orders. She was super fast and friendly. She checked on us just the right amount of times(not overwhelming and not ignored). The food– I had the Bubba plate which was obviously awesome! My husband had the roast beef but he did not care for the bun and will most likely try something else next time but he was happy that they offered $ 2.50 beers! We will definitely be back and so glad a friend recommended this place!

This is a pretty cool pub in downtown Syracuse. Huge beer selection with great specials. Lots of locals, and little less crowded as it is a little further from the Armory Square main pub street. The wings were great Buffalo style wings, and the servers are super friendly. Great atmosphere inside and a great place grab a brew and hang out.

If you’re a beer lover, you really can’t go wrong with this place. The selection is near the top of what you’re going to find in Syracuse. Some are constant, but most rotate on a regular basis, leaving a new one to try each time you go. On top of that, they have featured cheap beers that are… Well, really cheap. Food is good as long as you’re expecting bar food. Had some surprisingly delicious poutine there not too long ago. Nacho plates are piled high and near impossible to finish on your own. Everything else on the order of chicken tenders & burgers is pretty standard. Good spot. Head there in the summer for the outdoor patio. Otherwise, there’s plenty of beer to keep you warm indoors!

The beer specials are out of this world! $ 2 for a pint is unheard of downtown. But, J Ryan’s does it. Also, their fried pickles and bubba plate are fantastic! Great place for friends or just watching a game. You will not run out of beers to drink or food to eat. The few crew that they have are attentive and good folks to talk to.

I love the selection of beers and daily specials! The staff was friendly and attentive. I enjoyed my bubba plate and fried pickles as well as the SU football game that they were playing on the TVs. Can’t wait to go back for more food, beer, and football!

Great beer selection. Food is decent. Staff are friendly and helpful. A nice outdoor seating area. Don’t try playing the jukebox. They skip songs.

Been there only one time but an easy five stars. BEER: They have around 70 taps of well selected and priced craft beer, with lots of local and regional choices, as well a rotating cask selection. They always have beer specials in addition to their very reasonable pricing. FOOD: Many items with some interesting dishes. Our food was outstanding. Gastropub food at bar food prices. SERVICE: Very friendly and attentive. ATMOSPHERE: Cozy and well used but not a dive. Tons of flexible seating. Large bar. TV’s everywhere. Pool table. Outdoor patio during warmer weather. Very comfortable and welcoming. Great classic rock(but not too loud) piped in from somewhere. CLIENTELE: Locals at the bar, watching soccer in a festive mood. A family with young children playing with the pool table. A couple in the corner enjoying some privacy. Very diverse and relaxed crowd. OVERALL: I really can’t think of anything I’d change about this place. Favorite bar in Syracuse, and not just because of the outstanding beer selection.

If you want to be the envy of your friends’ Untappd accounts then this is the place for you. They have a lot of beer on tap.. . A lot. And not just junk either, the majority of it is really quality stuff. The food is decent. Pretty typical bar food. The hangover burger I tried has bacon, cheese, and jalapeños. It was a pretty solid flat top style burger with the grease you crave from time to time. I’d have it again. The atmosphere is loud and crowded with an array of different people. Business people, hospital workers, hipsters, families; anything goes here. It’s everything you expect in a decent dive bar with a bonus of having a great beer selection.

The go-to bar for me in Syracuse. 69 craft beers on tap and solid daily specials. One can get a pitcher of a good craft beer for $ 10 here. This can not be beat. Atmosphere is fun and often quite crowded. Food is pretty good. Has a pool table and some other games to play. This is an excellent hang out spot.

Here now for the first time! Bartenders are friendly and quick. The kitchen is open to midnight which is a huge plus for me. I’ll be back just based on that since it’s hard to find good food late. Their menu features all your typical bar food such as wings, mozzarella sticks and fried pickles but also has burgers, sandwiches and salad. I had a mushroom onion Swiss burger cooked medium rare. It was so juicy! Burgers and sandwiches are served with mac salad unless otherwise specified. I thought the mac salad was too sweet but some people like it that way, not a huge issue since other sides are available. I will definitely be back to try other things. The patrons are very friendly too. Great vibes here!

I will gladly pay more for beer that is 1. COLD, 2. properly gassed, 3. Available from the extensive list offered. The beer I selected first wasn’t available, nor was the second. The third time and not even charmingly close to my original genera of unfiltered Belgians I received what I believe was a Luke warm bud light. Slightly flat. Totally my fault for not complaining. They seem super nice and I’m sure would have fixed it. The hubs got a stout(after one try) that was colder than mine… not the balmy 54f we expected. We took our beer outside to the patio, where they do indeed let people smoke, which isn’t great for us non smokers. The interior is large with a black checked floor, standard dart board and a cooler you can brown bag from if you so desire. Nothing to make me a super fan. Whatevs, it was a convention of cheap beer drinkers on a hazy afternoon and we moved on quickly.

Love this place. One of the only places in town with beer specials, but J Ryan’s is set apart because they put great IPA’s and craft beers on their special, which is a great deal. We heard good things about their food, so we got the fish & chips, and wings, and both were so good and came out super hot(temperature), and although it’s a menu of bar food, it doesn’t taste like normal bar food. Will keep coming back for the food and drinks!

One of my favorite bars in Syracuse. The bartenders are great, the food is great, and the selection of beer is huge and always changing. There is a ton of seating, though the bar isn’t particularly large. The outside patio is very large as well. Parking is a breeze, with on street parking and a parking lot(free nights and weekends) right next to the building. Great bar, great people!

More taps than I care to count. Tons of IPA and stout selections. Bartenders were both knowledgable about every beer I inquired about. The chili cheese nachos are unbelievably huge and delicious. Worth the walk thru freezing temps to consume. Wow! I will be back again for sure next time I’m in Syracuse. AMEX not accepted. Plan accordingly.
