Jreck Subs was started in 1967 by five school teachers who wanted to make extra money for their families. The first sub«shop» was a converted school bus that was parked outside the U.S. Army post in Watertown, NY. The business went so well that they formed a corporation in 1968 called Jreck Subs Inc., which was derived from the first letters of the five owners’ names. After obtaining some financial backing, the corporation opened a bakery to produce sub rolls on a daily basis.
By 1974, there were twenty Jreck Subs Shops from Massena to Syracuse. Since then, Jreck Subs has grown to over forty stores in Northern and Central New York, and plans for more are underway. This is their North Syracuse location. Jrecks has always been one of my favorite local«chains». There’s just something about their sandwiches I love. Some of their hot subs are made with frozen meats(not their deli meat subs), but there’s fresh veggies and sauces. I love getting their buffalo chicken and meatball subs. They always have a different flavored sub roll of the month for their fresh rolls, which is interesting. The inside is very clean and bright. This location has, in my opinion, some of the best service of the CNY locations. They also have a loyalty card. Some of their locations are considered«test» locations, where they use that particular location to test new items with customers, and this is one of them. Overall, I’m a big fan. It was always one of the places I had to get to when I didn’t live in CNY and came to visit.

Customer service was awful!!! I went there today(which is 2 for Tuesday) and ordered a grilled chicken sub which I didn’t know wasn’t on the 2 for Tuesday list. The girl put the chicken on the grill for about 30 seconds before I saw the sign that said its not on the list… I asked for a different sub and she said NO several times to me!!! She said they can’t reuse the chicken, so apparently because they couldn’t reuse it I couldn’t get another sub, wtf. She was such a B***h to me. She continued to be rude while I ordered the rest of my subs… I should have walked out but I was in a hurry and had to order subs for several people. I haven’t had someone in the food industry be so rude to me. Needless to say I will not ever be going back there and would not recommend anyone go there… I’ll be going right down the road to Wegmans sub shop from now on.

Cold subs are fine but the hot subs are bad. Frozen meat they have to cook on the griddle. Bland. Go to a local sub/pizza shop instead

Typical sub… Typical service… Typical prices. It’s a chain, so I guess they don’t have to strive for anything. If you need a sub quick go here. If you want a good sub go to Wegman’s.

This is by far the place I miss most now that I’m living on the west coast again. Nobody makes a better meatball sub. Everyone who’s been willing to eat here with me has been amazed that the subs actually live up to the hype I give to them. I miss Jreck Subs more than salt potatoes. If you’ve had salt potatoes, you understand the weight of that statement. If you haven’t had salt potatoes, go eat at Jreck Subs first, then go eat some salt potatoes. They’re available where you are. Don’t take them for granted! I can’t recommend this place highly enough. The food is amazing and the service is great.
