Bland greasy food. Came in Sunday afternoon with a group of four and decided to get Mac and cheese because it has been so good catered. My friend and I got a side of Mac and cheese, another friend got a pulled pork sandwich with chili and Mac and cheese and we had the appetizer sampler for the table. The entire sampler was greasy and lukewarm, as was my Mac and cheese. It was like congealed macaroni with tasteless cheese. The pulled pork was said to be very good though, so maybe it was just what I ordered. Service was meh, I walked in and the girl just stared at me and our waitress seemed scrambled and inattentive. Won’t return

Did not have the best experience. I understand this location recently re-opened and the restaurant was packed. Got a table but no waitress. Had to order our food and drinks through the bartender before we could actually get a waitresses attention. My husband had the brisket and the meat was old, you could taste the age in the meat. The wait staff looked tired and miserable. I will go here for drinks only from now on. So disappointed. These issues could have easily been avoided. Pull it together Limp!

Unfortunately, this location has seen a slow, but steady, decline in quality over the years. There are still some good aspects. For the price you pay, you do get a generous amount of food. Also, the beer offerings have expanded nicely. As far as food quality goes, it really seems to depend on when you go. I’ve had good and so so. I guess it just depends on who is working that day. Do you really want to be wondering that when you go out to eat? The service is disinterested and slow. The condition of the seating and tables is really bad. I know this is the type of place where you expect a little«rougher» look, but the feel here is more like, «we just don’t care». It is far too small of a place for a band. That’s fine for the late night scene, but there’s bands here much earlier. Do check out the Liverpool location. I’m not sure how the ownership differs, but they do a far better job all around.

The environment is not appealing to me– crowded, loud, small seating area. But if you want some of the best tasty morsels of food, call ahead to see if they have Burnt Ends on special. It is a sandwich of «burnt ends» cut off of their pork, on a standard roll with melted cheese(with onions unless you ask for it without). The burnt ends themselves taste like rehydrated jerky in the best possible way. I have never really been a Dino gal, and this solidified it for me. Unfortunately, I have only been able to procure these tasty delights at the Onondaga location.

The service was quite slow. It took a pretty long time to get wings and a salad. The food wasn’t edible, but not the best. The dressing on the harvest salad was pretty amazing.

Recommended by a security guard at our conference — I usually trust Unilocal, but I always trust the recommendation of a guy who looks well fed. Twenty minutes to be seated, but drinks were reasonable and we were asked about refills before being seated. It’s a bar with tables, band was energetic if not a bit too loud. Food was delicious — very reasonable for price, great portions, quick to the table and hot. Attentive but not crowding wait staff. An interesting place, great food, nice staff — I’ll be back.

Although it breaks my heart to downgrade my favourite place, in the interests of honesty, I have to. Although the food remains 5 star, I’m afraid inattention to detail is creeping in. Firstly, the ghastly thumping of bass speakers, tuned to some dreary radio station. Really not necessary at lunch time. And believe me, all you can hear is meaningless bass! Not cool and really annoying Turn down the music and definitely TURNDOWNTHEBASS. Secondly, the first booth I sat in had a completely broken back. Really dangerous. When I changed to the other side of the booth, the leather was ripped to pieces and badly mended with cheap tape. Unhygienic and smacks of not caring. Very down market feel. The waitress didn’t seem to be at all concerned when I mentioned it. The coffee was lukewarm and the milk I asked for came in a totally impractical container which was great for spilling but crappy for pouring. Milk all over the table. And then, no spoon to stir it. Extraordinary! I’m a frequent guest here so I’m really hoping these problems will be addressed. I’m a firm believer that if the food is so good, why completely spoil the experience with these other things. Pull up your socks L.L. You’re better than this.

I’m a fan of Limp Lizard over Dinosaur BBQ. Love the Lizards Brisket and they have the best beans, no comparison anywhere else. Prices are easy to afford, service is always good. I bring guests here. And the noise level compared to DBBQ, you can have a real conversation here without bumping elbows with your neighbors.

If you’re in Syracuse and want to try some BBQ other than Dino, this place is worth a look. No matter how busy it is, I’ve never had a problem getting seated right away. The atmosphere is good, and almost has a Dino feel to it. No point in reinventing the wheel, I guess. The beer selection is pretty good, and service is always good. The portions here are pretty large, and I like the meats. The brisket especially. I wish they would give different sauces at the table, but the one they give is good. If I could offer any advice it would be work on the sides. I haven’t really been overly impressed with any sides I’ve tried. The beans are OK, and I would probably say it’s their best.

i’ve been eating BBQ all over upstate NY and northeast PA over the last few years. i’ve had some pretty good bbq and some pretty bad bbq, and i’d have to say that compared to them this place is pretty solid, BUT comparing these guys to Dinosaur BBQ is where these guys fall short. Dino’s food is pretty much perfect in my opinion, and the wait can be a hassle but i feel it’s worth it. my friend and i arrived at Limp Lizard around 6:30 or 7, i really can’t remember, but we were both surprised how busy it was. it was in a part of Cuse we had never been to and even though it was busy we were still seated right away. it looks like they’re trying for the same vibe as dino, having a lot of random stuff hanging up on the walls, which is cool i guess but it’d be cooler if they tried to do their own thing. the service was good though. as for the food, i started off with a dozen smoked wings. i ordered the blazin sauce and it really wasn’t hot at all and didn’t seem to differ from the sauce they had on the table. that’s another thing, they have a few different sauces but they only put one out on the table so you don’t get to sample em. the sauce was good though, it’s on the sweeter side but i felt it had a little too much garlic powder in it when ate on it’s own, but when i put it on the meat i didn’t seem to notice. the wings were good, they were meaty and smoky but a little on the tough side, they were definitely deep fried after they were smoked which can tighten em up a bit. i also got the sampler platter with pulled pork, brisket, and ribs. it was a LOT of food and i wish i didn’t get the wings before. the mac n cheese was ok but nothing special, pretty generic flavor. i did like the potato salad though. i got a really small piece of cornbread with it that tasted ok but it seemed a little dry. in addition to the 2 sides they gave me a tiny cup of slaw and i only took one bite, it was pretty bland. the ribs were ok, they were meaty and smokey but again a little tough. the bone pulled right out of the meat but the meat wasn’t very tender. the brisket and pulled pork didn’t taste too smokey to me at the time, but once i took home some leftovers and picked at em the smoke flavor seemed to come through a little more. the texture on those wasn’t too impressive either, the pulled pork was mushy and a little too shredded and the brisket was also a little on the tough side. the pulled pork came out as a sandwich, which i’ve never seen before for a combo plate. the bread on it was good. my friend went with the burnt ends sandwich and he really liked it. he gave me one of the ends and while the flavor was good it was too overdone in my opinion, burnt ends aren’t actually supposed to be burnt! all in all, they have ok food that would satisfy a bbq craving if you’re not willing to wait to be seated at dino, but as of now, i’d rather wait there for better food, or just do takeout and eat it in my car.

I have to rescind my former rating of one star. Since that first disappointing visit, we have had their food two or three more times at a catered event and it was delicious. My apologies, Limp Lizard. Clearly, you rock the BBQ.

So, I’m updating this review to more accurately represent Limp Lizard. After I posted my original review the owner Robyn contacted me apologizing for my experience and offering me a gift card to try again. Today I ordered take out for my little brothers and sister. They all ordered from the Tex Mex section, tacos and quesadillas. They loved their food and ate every bite. This is a good restaurant owned by people that care about their customers.

First visit to this location. I liked the atmosphere, the brightness of the place compared to the one in Liverpool. The girls were friendly and attentive. We were seated right away and our ordered was taken right away. Black bean soup was watery but it tasted good. I also ordered the Fish Sammich with sweet potato fries and cornbread. My fish had a good crust, and looked good but tasted bland. I was disappointed to say the least. My fries were undercooked. Cornbread was good. My husband said his burger was good. Service was excellent and I would’ve like for my food to be excellent as well, but I can’t say that it was. I would come back and try something else.

My work catered us to barbecue from this place. I was pretty impressed. I’ve never actually been to the restaurant but I can say the food is awesome.

Attended a family gathering catered by LL. It was delicious! Bbq’d chicken was tasty & moist. The potato salad was one of the best I’ve ever had. My aunt normally makes the best potato salad on earth, so she’s got some competition.

My favorite local hangout! I’ve been going to the Western Lights location since they opened. Great smoked wings, love the chili(no beans)! The smoked meatloaf(Thursday special) is awesome. Brisket is good, ribs a little inconsistent. It’s just a comfortable place. We’ve held a private party in their enclosed porch and it was great! The LL doesn’t get all the hype the Dino gets and for me that’s a positive. The LL is biker friendly, with dedicated motorcycle parking. Great to sit outside with a beer and a cigar!

Is it as good or better than the Dinosaur? Maybe. Do you have to wait lots and kowtow to the staff? No. I found Limp Lizard to be more«authentic» than it’s famous competitor. The food and the presentation isn’t as polished, but the biker at the bar probably built his Harley and knows how to fix it. We didn’t have any problems but if you’re a perfectionist, please go elsewhere. We’ll be happy you did.

I wasn’t big on this place at all. The prices are great and the portions are big for the price, but the food is so mediocre and they do not listen to requests at all. I’ve heard others say it rivals Dinosaur BBQ… well, that’s definitely not true. I came here with a huge group of college Mock Trial kids in the spring of 2010(we were traveling after a tournament), so I’m sure that contributed to the service, which I thought was awful. However, even with awful service, I expect decent food. I ordered the jambalaya and specifically requested it to be made with less oil and butter(my stomach was feeling off and I didn’t want much oil). Yet it came swimming in a pool of tons of oil. I ate about a third of it and gave up. The flavor was okay, but I’ve had much better jambalaya. The best part of the night was when our coach(a law school student) had a moment of drunk generosity and bought dessert for all of us. I had some sort of cheesecake(Oreo, I think?) and it was great.

I was really surprised to see that not only had Limp Lizard not been reviewed yet but it wasn’t even in Unilocal yet! Living on the east side of Syracuse, we don’t venture over to Western Lights very often but decided to make the trip on a very cold December night. It must be tough to be a BBQ joint in a town that is know for the Dinosaur but the Limp Lizard seems to have figured it out. It’s very small so we had to wait a few minutes for a table but the food was worth it. I had the smoked chicken which I thought was better than what you get at Dino, my husband’s pulled pork was good but not something I would make a special trip to get. We left just the band was setting up for the evening entertainment — given the amount of equipment they were bringing in compared to the small size of the joint, it looked like we timed things just right to be able to hear each other over the table! Having said that, I’m sure the place rocks later at night too!
