Great food and service. Green Chile Chicken Quesadilla or salad are awesome! Excellent service and atmosphere. Also perfect kids meals!

If you can’t go to the Bajio in Layton, then this place is the next closest thing. The ranch is almost the same & so is the décor. The food though is not– I wasn’t impressed. Both my friend & I were sick later on the evening after eating here. Location was clean, but the soda machine was out of order. Was very quiet– probably because no one else was there at lunch time on a weekend.

We stopped here after reading the reviews. We were happy to find the reviews were spot on. The place was clean and artfully decorated. The food was fresh and the portion sizes large for the price. We enjoyed our lunch. We especially liked the shrimp tacos, chile verde, and the tamales

We loved it. Went to Antelope island and I don’t know if we were so hungry or the food was so good. Hit the spot. The two ladies were nice. Clean place.

Basically this is still just Bajio with a new name. Even the décor, lights and menu are the same. It was okay food when we came in today but nothing extra special about it. There aren’t really any other Mexican restaurants in the area so the owners have an opportunity to really do something special here and make this place an must have spot. I really hope they go for it instead of just leaving this place in the«nothing special here» zone.

Went here when they first opened. Food was really good, big portions. Nice place and friendly staff. Will definitely go back eventually.

Decent generic Mexican food. Definitely as close as you can get to Bajio, which is what was replaced by Mellow Pepper. I got the sweet pork burrito, just to get a baseline(as this is what I regularly get as any Café Rio clone), and my wife got the chicken green chile quesadilla. I found the burrito bland, definitely not very sweet for sweet pork. I definitely prefer Café Rio when is comes to the pork. I did like the was the sour cream and guac complemented it, though. I would definitely recommend getting those two condiments. My wife, as I said earlier, got the chicken green chile quesadilla. Very tasty! But no different from when Bajio made it. If I could do it over, I would try the chicken green chile in a burrito. We also got a churro, and I would recommend to abstain from this. It was just a mouthful of too much cinnamon sugar. Overall, the service was quick(though not overly friendly), and the location was not busy.

I don’t get the low ratings, I thought the food was great! I built my own Sweet Pork Burrito and felt it was tastier and more interesting than the Café Rio fare, and there are lots of options for future choices. I like the«build your own» concept, and portions are generous, and you don’t pay extra for toppings. Salsa, guacamole, sour cream etc. are standard. I’ll be back for sure! They also have a bunch of house specialty dishes if you want get one of those. Others must like the food as well, I came for a late lunch around 2:00 but still had to stand in line.

Ate lunch at the Lousy Pepper today for the first and only time. It recently opened in place of Bajio(which also wasn’t very good). While looking at the menu deciding what to order, I noted a black type substance on top of a salad being made for another customer which I was later able to identify as their version of guacamole. There were three in my party. They were out of the first thing one of the people ordered. We ended up ordering carne asada street tacos, chili verde chicken quesadilla, kids chicken strips and some chips and queso as an appetizer. It all sucked. I’d rather eat the business end of a dead menstruating skunk than at this place ever again. I give them less than 90 days before they’re out of business. Any takers?

So I was hoping this place would be different but what it really is is bajio with a different sign out front. The food is not terrible but not great either it is kind of bland and needs some spices to kick it up a little. I will give it that it is very clean inside and the people making your food are very nice.

It’s nothing more than okay. The polite staff prepares your food right in front of you but it doesn’t taste so good. The place is super cool and clean. Prices are reasonable.

My wife and I decided to try this not knowing what to expect. We had eaten at Bajios, which is what used to be at this location. The Bajio was terrible both times we went. When we tried Mellow Pepper we were pleasantly surprised. I am a Café Rio fan and Mellow Pepper was very comparable. What I liked was the option of refried beans, two rice options, and more meat selections. I ordered the Chili Verde burrito and it was great. The burrito also came with a side of rice and beans or chips or side salad. My wife got the Green Chili Chicken salad. Her only complaint was it did not have beans in it but she loved the chicken. I tried it as well and it was great. Their house dressing is fantastic. It is similar to Café Rios dressing but with a spicy jalapeño kick. Over all we really enjoyed the food and will definitely be returning to try other food options.

The Bajio is out and Mellow Pepper has taken over, unfortunately food is no better, in fact, it may be worse. Craving some Mexican food and not wanting to drive to far we opted to give Mellow Pepper a try. Got several menu options to try none of which were very good. We ordered by phone and went to pick up the food, there was some issues with our order so it was not ready, the wife had to wait while they sorted out the issues. To make up for the wait they gave the wife a free drink and an order that was placed by someone else but never picked up. So, we ended up with a lot of food and a variety of menu items. Unfortunately the food was terrible, both what we had ordered as well as what was ordered by the others. Everything was gloppy, bland and overly sweet, even those dishes that were suppose to be spicy. The wife’s shrimp salad was bland and the shrimp was way over cooked to the point of being crunchy.

Previous reviews rave about the fish tacos so we decided to try out the burrito and give it an honest comparison between it, café rio and costa vida. Burrito was OK. Not necessarily bad, but not worth the same price as café rio. Although there are more options to add to your burrito, the flavor just wasn’t on par. Also, the rice and beans were a little dry. If I want a good burrito, I’d drive to a café rio. If your in the area, I guess get the fish tacos.

Fish tacos with mango salsa, black beans, and sweet rice. Surprisingly tasty. Being from California I can be pretty picky about my Mexican food. I would eat here again. The churros are a must try as well.

We ate there on 5÷24÷14 and the food was really good. I had the Chili Verde and my wife had the Fish Tacos and they were both AMAZING. Everything I have tried on the menu has been delicious. Their quality is just as good as Café Rio /Costa Vida if not better, but what I really like is that their menu is more diverse with way more options. I even like that the kids menu offers corn dogs and chicken strips since some of my kids don’t love Mexican food.
