The building gets 1 to 2 stars, but the food gets 5 stars. The people behind the counter are very nice, I will be there again soon.

Huge portions, I used to work around the corner and grabbed a burrito every once and awhile, it used to be great but it has gone down hill the past couple of years.

Finding good Mexican food in Syracuse is a challenge especially for a disaporic Texan living in the city. Good Mexican food should be delicious, cheap, feel like home, and have chips and salsa that just come with you food. Ponchito’s has 7 tables and 1 high chair so it’s very tiny. The table hot sauce is Valentina which is not nearly hit enough for me. However they do make a very good but not that spicy Jalapeño ketchup that comes with the papas fritas. The prices are very reasonable. I had the carnitas burrito and the papas fritas. The carnitas were tender and juicy but not too flavorfull. Overall the burrito was delicious and very filling but even the spicy burrito was not spicy at all and the flavors were not that strong at all, there was no critrusness to it. The burrito was rather bland but it was the size of my head. The biggest drawbacks here are: not spicy, not to flavorful, no carne asada, or Jarritos, or Mundet, or Sangría Señorial. If you are jonesing for a Taqueria Ponchito’s is most certainly a viable option and and on the alarmingly way to short list of Mexican food in Syracuse. I will most certainly eat here again.

This place used to be the Go-To for some good Mexican food. Over the years, they have been going down hill. The place always looks dirty and they consistently mess up orders of Pappas Fritas. Always undercooked, never crispy. They seem to think as long as they roll up a big super burrito, everything else can be overlooked. Now they have significantly raised their prices and removed all offered discounts, which made them a people’s favorite.

They took my money and said they were having online difficulties. I want my money. I was charged for the order and it wasn’t delivered. I’m extremely upset.

The super burritos are HUGE! Weigh more than a baby. Special requests are always honored.

Long hard day, thought: as long as I’m in this neck of the woods, why not? Kind of a crummy area, some tables and chairs, but mainly a takeout place. Got me a burrito that must have weighed three pounds! Black beans, rice, salsa, and chopped fried pork pieces(not their usual pork filling, but he assured me it was ‘good stuff’). There were extras to buy to put on, sour cream, hot sauce, guacamole, which I had at home. I thought, well this thing should last me two days at least. I have to admit that it’s been two hours and there is one slice of my pork burrito left. Calling to me. Thanks, Ponchitos! Though I feel like I’ve gained several pounds in two hours, it was a wonderful experience, and I’ll be by again to try the beef and chicken, and the regular pork filling.(this deep fried stuff? one can only DREAM about it :-) it is that good)

A great taqueria like I remember ‘em from California. Hefty burritos with tasty/juicy meats, great ingredients, and don’t forget the guacamole! And you can’t beat the prices here either. The only downside is the limited menu and a lack of freshly grilled carne asada. Otherwise, I give this place an enthusiastic thumbs up! (This is Ponchito’s second location. The other location is on New Court Ave.)
