Murphy’s Markets

No hamburgers in the meat department at 2:00 in the afternoon? Not the first time they have been out of basics. I shopped them for over 20 years until recently because you never knew what to expect. Shop-​Rite is my new store.

On August 22 2014 I stopped by the Tabernacle Murphy’s at 1:10 pm and asked the gentalman for an 8 piece fried chicken to go. If you are familier with the store layout it is near the dining area and bathrooms. Out of the bathroom walks a gentleman talking to one of the workers. The man walks to the self serve food area pics up the black serving spoon and starts eating tattor tots out of it with his fingers. I looked at him and said wow. He asked what was wrong and I said to him that is unsanitary. He said no it isn’t and did it again and put the spoon back into the food tray. He then walked behind the counter to do something and that is when I realized he was some kind of manager or owner, I am not sure which. I asked the employee if he was the manager but the mployee said nothing. He the manager walked back over again looking at me and ate some more tattor tots out of the spoon with his bare hands. I said why don’t you just put your mouth into the tray and suck the food out it would be easier. I did not buy the chicken and will never eat any of their quick food to go again. He was so arrogant and because I questioned him he just had to keep eating out of the serving spoon, because he could. As a manager or owner he could have just said ok and replaced the spoon but no he wanted to debate it with me. As a professional he was totally unprofessional. Makes me wonder if the employees eat off the serving spoons also when he is not around.

I live right down the street from this Murphy’s location, so it is convenient for me when I need a few things. I like the fact that they have a nice selection of Valenzano’s wine, as well as a small liquor/​beer section. It is a little pricier than going to the discount liquor stores, but it works if I don’t feel like driving many miles to a big discount liquor store. However, some of the other reviews mention the customer service, and I must agree that many of the workers are younger people who really don’t have a clue. I’ve asked a question at the deli several times to different workers, and got several different answers… but what do you expect from part-​time kids? But, I love the smoker they have going outside — nice touch.

I have shopped all the Murphy’s for 22 years and have not had a problem. I like the smaller store. You are in and out quicker.
