I didn’t eat here, but the karaōke was fun. Drinks were average priced for bars in the area, no bargain but not bad. Fun vibe.

I really enjoyed the people and the food was simply wonderful. Unlike many other joints in the area this place is now a family favorite and our waiter was the best. His broken arm did not hinder him whatsoever. Viva Engine No.9!!!

This has become the go-to restaurant for me and my friends. They have a huge menu, so everyone is guaranteed to find something that appeals to them. I usually get the chicken quesadilla but I’ve had the pizza and that’s pretty yummy as well. The price may seem a tad high, but it’s worth it. The dishes are huge, the food is good, the staff are friendly, and there are usually fun activities going on. It makes for a great family restaurant, date spot, or bar. My only word of advice is for clean freaks to proceed with caution. The building used to be a firehouse(hence the name). E9 has decorated the walls with photos and antiques; burn marks and all. The tables feel sticky and if you look around, you’ll find a lot of dust. It has a very old feel to it, but most people love that. My favorite things to look at are the old horse stalls. Each one has a horse’s name on it. Not sure if they are the real names of the horses that worked for E9, but I like to think they are!

I love E9. Their food is awesome for any meal. I would recommend the loaded nachos(loaded is an understatement), their famous mac & cheese wedges, the fire pasta, and pretty much any breakfast item(weekends only). Definitely one of my go to spots in Tacoma. The theme of the bar is really pretty cool and I’m glad they have kept it up with all the fire gear. Their house brews are also very good and the bar tenders are generally willing to recommend one that will suit your tastes. E9 is also a nice spot to bring a larger party.

This is my go-to in Tacoma. The food is amazing… Literally everything I’ve tried so far has been great. Gigantic, juicy burgers, loaded nachos, top-notch pizza, and great appetizers for cheap asses like me. Beer selection is always the best in town, with varying styles so there’s always something for everyone. The house beers are great too — especially the sours and don of time pale. I have never came here and not found something great on the tap list. Staff is great too: Personable, energetic, and prompt.

What a fantastic place!!! Very historical! Went here around 6 on a Saturday and it was PACKED! Luckily my bf was able to find a place in the bar area. We were promptly greeted and asked for drinks. I got the mint Julip and holy smokes it was intense. I couldn’t even finish it my bf did. Or waitress took awhile to come back after dropping our drinks. And we were hungry. That is why I knocked them down a star. She should have taken our order when she dropped off our drinks. I got the turkey pesto sandwich(very large portion) the fries are AMAZING!!! And ask for the engine #9 sauce!!!

I am sad to give this place two stars. The first time we visited the place was at lunch and we had delicious sandwiches and a delicious flight of beer. We recently came here for dinner the other night and were greatly let down. There was a 30 minute wait which is fine, if the wait is worth it. My rating is based only on the food during this most recent visit. It felt way too easy, bland, and pre-frozen. We ordered the deep fried macaroni bites for an appetizer and there is no way on earth these are made in house. It is straight from the box Kraft macaroni in perfect little bland breaded triangles, only flavored by what has to be Hidden Valley ranch dressing. My fish and chips had to have been pre-frozen. The fish was utterly soaked in oil and the breading was soaked in oil as well. There was no crispness or flavor to the breading and the fish was far from flaky and fresh. Oh, and the fried weren’t flavored. My wife’s gyro had a few pieces of overcooked dry steak’ums smashed between a pita and some watery liquid that took the place of the typical tzatziki sauce. It was gross. Neither of us finished either of our meals and we left after our beers — which were very good — unhappy. Again, our first visit was great and the sandwiches we ordered were delicious. This visit was miserable and I am not sure we will be back. You want places like this to have amazing pub food made fresh and sourced locally. We’ll go to D.O.A. For that from now on.

We were looking for a breakfast place this morning that we haven’t been to, or it has been a while since we went there. I had no idea that E9 served breakfast, how could this possibly be? I looked up breakfast in Tacoma on Unilocal and found what proved to be the best decision I have made about breakfast in years! The 9 of us sat in the back room and played shuffle board, video games, and enjoyed some of the best food we have had in months. Everyone knew what they wanted after about 3 minutes, but not me. I was stuck between three different menu items. The waitress got to my order and I told her I had no idea. She said that the Pastrami Hash and Eggs was her favorite breakfast food on the menu, so I quickly said«DEAL» That is what I want. I have to say, she is a very smart woman! It was so good that I can not even form words to describe it. Everyone was very happy with their food choices and the staff was amazing. We will be returning for breakfast, often!

So so. The difference between the service you get during lunch and dinner is probably due to the crowd. Good sandwiches and«bar food» type dishes. I really enjoy the fish tacos. I’ve also had the patty melt, which wasn’t bad. Nice beer selection. I’ve seen it get a little rowdy here at night and on the weekends. It was hard to believe that it was the same place I had lunch with my mom 9 hours earlier. I went here with my siblings and a group of friends on a Saturday, the same day I had a great lunch with my mom here, and the server was overwhelmed(maybe that’s why she was a little rude) and the food was just fair. The best time to eat here is lunch, in the summer, outside.

This is an awesome place to eat in Tacoma. I’ve been here twice now and both times had a great experience. This time I had the salmon and it was perfect. The place is situated in an old firehouse. They had soccer and football on the TVs. I did think the food service was just a bit slow for my liking but was well worth the wait. The waitress apologized for the delay but after reading reviews it appears its a trend. Even with the food delay, I really liked this place and will return.

I’m confused by the reviews I’m seeing stating poor service and bad food. My husband and I have been going here since we moved into the neighborhood 2.5 years ago. We’ve never had a bad experience. In fact, we choose E9 to watch Seahawks games at every single Sunday during the season and have always had excellent service! True, some things on the menu are better than others, but there are plenty of choices that are great and we’ve always enjoyed breakfast here too!

I agree that if I could give zero stars, or take some away, I would. Our experience yesterday was horrendous. We were a larger group(8 plus a toddler and a baby) but it was early evening and the dining room was almost completely open; so needless to say the 10 servers that were on were NOT busy. Our server not only ignored us most of the time, but our food quite literally took a little over an hour, and she only checked in on us one time. We had to flag her down for another round, for water(which wasn’t brought for anyone but myself), for boxes, everything. Utterly awful customer service. As a manager at an extremely busy Portland brewery, I was not only appalled, but disappointed. Their tap list looked promising, but I refused to order a beer only to wait 20 minutes for it. Not only that, but I saw numerous servers touching their hair, faces, etc. and not washing their hands — maybe this is how folks roll in Tacoma, but that doesn’t make it sanitary. Most of the female servers had on tank tops(granted it was easily 80 degrees inside) which was incredibly unappetizing around food, not to mention pretty unprofessional. Sorry E9, but I wouldn’t return even if you paid me.

Service is slow as s%#*. Beer is the only reason to go. Food service is pointless. If you want food, go somewhere else. They’re understaffed, obviously.

My Boyfriend took me to Engine No. 9 for Date Night and what a great atmosphere! The service was excellent and the staff were extremely nice and inviting! Now to their great menu and food… we had the following: Mac and Cheese Wedges Golden brown battered mac and cheese wedges with ranch. The Pumper Truck Pizza Pepperoni, onions, bacon, mushrooms, sausage, black olives.(Jalapenos optional) Both my boyfriend and I were extremely impressed with our food and how yummy it was! We can’t wait to go back and plan on bringing our friends… definitely a cool spot!

This restaurant was the second choice after a bad experience and not being served in a previous restaurant. However I am extremely happy that we ended up at this restaurant as they have a great atmosphere and absolutely delectable food. As I have a large selection of beers and a full bar. We went there to catch up with friends and grab some grub, while doing so the atmosphere was so laid-back and chill and we decided to grab a couple of drinks as well. We had such a large party and the restaurant was already busy they allowed us to pretty much take over the back room which had shuffle board and multiple arcade games in it. Needless to say it was defiantly fun and a great time. The waitress seemed to be pretty busy and didn’t let that affect her ability to take our orders and make sure that we got our food in an efficient amount of time. Is really grateful to have such fantastic service. The food was fantastic and such a large selection normally when there’s a large selection of items to choose from on the menu and typically means that they’re not made well over this restaurant put that theory to shame. Thank you guys for providing a great experience. We will defiantly be returning!

Food: its good. Burgers are pretty good. Rest of the menu is decent. A bit pricey for my liking, but you do get what you pay for. Brewery: They make poor quality of beer. I dont want to rip on this guys but they are not good. They do however make a drinkable sour, but there prices are way too high for its worth. Guest Taps: E9 does bring in excellent guest taps but they charge WAYTOOMUCH for these. They often charge pint prices for 10oz tries. They do however try to have a Boneyard always on tap and do bring in Ballast Boint randomly. But these folks charge too much and taps stay on too long without rotation. Bring prices slightly down, have more success. They have a punching bag machine in a tiny area. Rookie stuff. Take that stupid machine out Come here for the food, thats it. Parvisville all day aaaaallll daaaaaaay

This place was actually a nice bar and pub. A converted Engine house with a bit of history. I am not a beer drinker but they had some choices of hard cider. I tried Anthem and I did not find it very tasty. Excellent tater tots here. Did not like the jalapeño popper pizza too much. It was like a deconstructed jalapeño popper with jalapenos, bacon, and a cream cheese based sauce. The toppings seemed a little on the stingy side. No heat to the pizza either. I think a crust really makes the pizza and the crust just seemed really chewy and bland. If the crust was good, I think the rest of the pizza might have come through… overall, the tots were the best.
