Hanks Bar and Grill

I loved their tacos here until today, when I had ordered tacos and didn’t receive them after waiting for 45 minutes. When I finally went up to let the bartender know that I had yet to receive them, she was rude. She told me «it was really hard to figure out where you are sitting.» I was sitting exactly where I had told her and there were only 4 other tables in the bar. Will not be coming back. The Ale House for the win on Taco Tuesday’s !!!

I didn’t even know about this tavern since it is tucked away in a residential neighborhood! Some friends of ours suggested we go here for a get together and we were excited to try out a new place!
When you find a place to sit there are menus at the tables. Once you find out what you want to eat and drink you go up to the bar to order.
They will bring the food and drinks to you. That part could be confusing if you haven’t been there before.
The menu has a nice variety of food (sandwiches, pizza, etc.), much of it is pub fare and is actually better than many!
I got the French Dip which was delicious! The buns of sandwich kind of had a nice glaze to them, garlicy and the meat of the sandwich was tender. Something that can be a stumbling point for some places that make French Dip.
Despite this being a neighborhood tavern one may think it is quiet but it was actually noisy and a bit crowded but nothing to damper anyone’s enjoyment.

I have been coming into Hank’s over the years somewhat infrequently and never had any food until yesterday. I was very surprised by their selection and quality of the food, the pizza looked amazing although did not try it this time. Nonetheless, I made a comment that I was in the mood for something deep-​fried; nothing better than some tots, anyhow the bartender informed me that they don’t have a deep-​fryer which I was shocked at, but pleasantly surprised at the same time. I ended up with the baked chicken wings and was very impressed by them, actually some of the best chicken wings in town; I cannot believe they beat the less healthy deep-​fried versions.
The nice thing about Hanks is their outside patio and full-​bar selection including some wine; nice to change things up once in awhile. Overall this is a great place, but what you do expect coming from the same owner as the nearby Parkway.

Don’t come here if you’re starving or on any special diet… there is a long wait for food and nothing healthy on the menu. Typical bar food menu that has decent flavor, but greasy and fattening. There is no waitstaff. You have to order at the bar and it takes a while. The ambiance here though is off the hook… super swag inside. Cool spot off the main road smack dab in the middle of old Tacoma neighbourhood.

Love the atmosphere. Great food, lots of televisions to watch the game. Doesn’t break the bank.

No one acknowledged us, we wondered if they even had a wait staff. We would have loved to to try the food, but didn’t want to wait around.

Went there on a Tuesday. First time I have been to Hanks. It happened to be taco Tuesday! What a screaming deal! I got 3 beef 10″ flour tortillas tacos for less than $ 5. The tacos were very filling. We also had a pizza which was very good.
Service was pretty good also. There were a total of 12 – 15 in the restaurant including ourselves. It was about 12:15 when we arrived for lunch. I was happy to see that they had Space Dust IPA on tap
I will make a return visit!
Update: I ordered Space Dust IPA again today and received a much lighter and more bitter IPA. I did ask if they had it on tap and was told yes. If they mix up the beers I can only imagine what happens to mixed drinks. Know what you order and good luck!

Good food at this neighborhood bar.
It’s a seat your self, order at the bar kind of place. They had a good selection of beers on tap. We got a spot of tots for an appetizer. They were really tasty. It came with a home made aioli and sirracha ketchup. I thought the ketchup could have used a bit more spice. For dinner I shared a 12″ pizza. It was the perfect size for sharing with another person. We got the white rabbit pizza. It was a white sauce pizza with artichokes, mushrooms and roasted garlic. It was delicious! Almost every pizza on the menu sounded good.
When it’s busy and there’s a long line at the bar it can take a while to order. Also, the later it gets the louder the crowd gets, but it seems to be a local spot where everyone in the neighborhood hangs out.
Overall, I really enjoyed the food, I would stop by again sometime.

I have mixed feelings about this place… It’s a cool little local bar with a warm feeling to it & the food is awesome, but the damn service ruins everything for me. My girlfriend & I went in for dinner & some drinks tonight sat down & no one even comes to your table. I had to go to the bar to order a beer & food, asked for a water & was directed to the «self serve water station» with plastic party cups… Wtf? Food took for ever also. But it’s so damn good!!! Hey staff for sure make some rounds & check on the tables, it would be great if I didn’t have to get up every time I needed something.

This is my go-​to causual neighborhood bar.

Taco Tuesday does not disappoint. It’s almost as if they lace their taco fixings with magical unicorn dustings & intentionally serve them only on Tuesdays so that you’re left craving them all week long. Though I miss the corner bar feel from the old days, I love warm wood and over sized booths they incorporated into the remodel. Can’t wait to get in here on a Sunday morning for football & try their pretzel breakfast sandwich.

I have been coming to this bar for years. I’ve seen many new changes… the new menu is amazing, the old staff is still friendly with a little sass and the new staff are all great additions. The remodel is beautiful. But, do not mistake this bar for a five star restaurant with fine dining service. Keep in mind, ORDER AT THE BAR for food and drinks. One of the many reasons I love this place. I am not hounded by servers trying to get me out of their section as soon as possible, getting up to get a drink allows me to mingle with other patrons, I am never stuck with the bill of another member of my party, and I can look to see the amazing beer selection on tap. This bar is great to grab a pizza and pitcher of beer. A place to lounge and enjoy my friends. Hanks gets slammed busy often. You have to understand that when going there. The staff does an amazing job with dealing with the amount of volume for such a small space. People don’t go to Hanks for a quiet dinner with table service. People go to Hanks to have the feeling of a small town bar where everyone know each other. I will always return to Hanks!

We had a great time in here for the game today even though the Hawks lost! Killer bloody marys and awesome pizza. We shared the Kst Kicker that had white sauce and chicken it was delicious.

Horrible service food took 45 min to get us i don’t even know if i enjoyed the food i because i was so mad and hungry. I would give this place 1* but the décor was nice. #neveragain

I came for the football and got breakfast early Sunday. It’s the new hanks and I live it

Wife and I walked in, saw a table and sat ourselves. And that’s the end of the story basically. Saw three servers hovering around the door to the kitchen, and that’s as far as they made it for the 15 minutes we sat there. Never saw them attempt to leave the kitchen. We walked out finally and went to Top of Tacoma.

I was hesitate to embrace the remodel but I like it. Place it nice inside and the patio is killin it. Staff is still awesome. Great place to drink the heart out of the afternoon or bring your mom.

Excellent staff! Friendly and low key neighborhood bar. A great place to make friends and have a relaxing night.
The new redesign has brought some class to a once run down dive bar. It still has the same welcoming feeling though.
The food is excellent and you don’t want to miss Taco Tuesdays!
