Tacoma has very limited Indian Restaurants but this one definitely makes up for it! I had the Tandoori Chicken. It’s cooked on the bone(means exactly what it says my friends) with a tasty tomato butter sauce. I like mine with a little more kick added a little extra spice to it. Décor is nice and spacious. Server was friendly and look forward to going back to try another dish.

Good food, good service. Great lunch buffet! Could be cleaner. Very thick dust on over head lighting. Other than that, great atmosphere.

Ordered take out from this place. Nice portion size, the food was super delicious, but the parking was terrible. It’s right on 6th ave so that can be stressful.

Had the buffet today. Everything I had was very good. They could definitely benefit from offering more food in the buffet though. More dishes, that is. The tandoori chicken and lamb with peas(I don’t know the proper name of the dish) were excellent. Chai tea was very good as well. Plus, I was accompanied by my sister and my aunt, whom I haven’t seen since I was four years old. Nice place. Would definitely go back!

Food was excellent, I ate off the menu for the first time today… I am an Indian food explorer as of late, sampling dishes from indian buffets on my days off from work. The best time to go to any buffet is right when it opens, but today I was a little late and the buffet appeared a little less fresh. If you want an excellent Indian lunch buffet then head up to Bellevue, today I ordered the samosas, garlic naan and aloo ghobi. Wonderful supprise, why have I never ordered from the menu? Well with names like aloo ghobi, naan, and galub jamun how can a new indian food fan make sense of this. Thanks to this place my fear of the unknown has disappeared and my menu virginity broken forever.

Family friendly. Darn good. Everything tasted like love. Started with pappadum and their sauce was awesome. Shrimp and rice was great, kids loved it. Lamb korma was not only wonderful it was a great portion. Vegetable balls, kofta, were flavored splendid and filling. The garlic naan was so much better than other places. We eat Indian food and this was better than any other in the area. We ended with gulab jamun, and they made them wonderfully and serves them warm which I prefer. Go here. Love it. You will come back.

We moved away from Tacoma 14 years ago, and we get or favorite dish(lamb korma), everytime we come home for a visit. We don’t done in very often, we usually get dinner to go. I haven’t tried the lunch buffet.

5 stars for the best Indian food restaurant in Tacoma. Not the best I’ve ever had, but one of the best! Service was great, and seating is plentiful so there is barely ever a wait. We started our night with two Indian style Chais and we made no mistake. What a sweet way to warm up on a rainy Washington Sunday night! We got a complimentary(gluten free) appetizer that consisted of chickpea flour coated/fried veggies with a mango chutney. My man ordered the grilled meats plate to share and I got the vegetarian suggestion(mix of all veggies in a curry/green sauce… Can’t remember it for the life of me but it was our waitresses recommendation!). We share both and licked our plates. It was so much food we had left overs. Prices were very comfortable as well! The only negative part was when a crazy/foreign/homeless man came into the restaurant asking where he was, and how to get back to the Soviet Union. But can’t complain… Dinner and a show? ;)

I will always love to eat here. The lunch buffet is a great price. Its a good place to bring someone for their first Indian food experience. Both this location and Gig Harbor have been a good experience with the food and the staff. When given the choice to pick where I want to go for dinner, this is in my top 2.

Gateway to India is my absolute favorite restaurant in Tacoma. I moved from MT earlier this year where there weren’t any Indian restaurants in my hometown. Finding Gateway was like finding heaven. The food has been amazing and affordable every time I have gone. The lunch buffet always has a great selection and is a steal! I often will call in my order before I leave work to pick up and take home for dinner that night. I always have enough for two meals out of it, and reheating as leftovers is almost just as delicious as the first go around. The staff are always courteous and chat with you when you stop in and make sure you are happy with your experience. The restaurant itself has a great vibe and is a good spot for larger parties as well. I will be coming back to Gateway time and time again, and if you feel like treating yourself, you will too!

I always say that I never crave Indian food, but once it’s in front of me I’m happy. I was happy when this food came, and I was happy after I ate it. Everything was tasty, the service was good, and the atmosphere was enjoyable. I do wish they offered unlimited papadum like other spots though… but maybe I’m just asking for too much :3

I went to the buffet with my family after the Spring Fairy Fest across the street. The food was delicious, which to me is surprising for a buffet. I really enjoyed the naan bread, rice, and buttered chicken that was out. The only drawback was that there was limited staff, but the one waitress that was available did a great job serving us and I can understand how busy she was. This is another nice place to check out in Tacoma! I certainly recommend it.

Finding ourselves in Tacoma today — and hungry, we stopped into Gateway to India for their lunch buffet. We thought the food was very good. I especially enjoyed the Saag Aloo, Chawal ki Kheer, and Basmati Rice. They also brew up a lovely Chai. We were surprised to see the Butter Chicken is served bone-on, as, most places, it is not. Even though, I would hazard to guess this version is a bit more authentic, I really do not like bone-on chicken that is cooked in a sauce(too messy), so I only took a sample. But, it was a very tasty sample. As another reviewer has mentioned, due to the fairy festivities down the street, it was especially busy here today. But, the lone server working provided completely friendly, efficient, and professional service to all. Not sure when life will bring me back to Tacoma’s 6th Avenue business district(which I enjoyed wandering while digesting my most scrumptious lunch). But, we were very happy to have found Gateway to India, and, were we to be back in the neighborhood, would certainly visit again.

Everything was amazing. Best mango lasse and saag aloo I’ve ever had. Also, ALL the other buffet items weren’t far off from that mark. My favorite Indian experience thus far.

I have to be honest and say I have not always been the biggest fan of Indian food, but wanted to give it another chance. I was pretty impressed with this place though. I did the lunch buffet and everything was pretty good. I am not a vegetarian by any means, but I really enjoyed the vegetable curry a lot. Great flavor. There was nothing that was bad that I tried, everything tasted good and had good seasoning. I also would recommend the ground lamb. Yum!

Used the Unilocal coupon for free pakora they were wonderful! The vegitarian potatoe dish I had was amazing, the sauce is the best for dipping Naan in. The servers were very friendly. Not enough butter on the Naan, kinda dry. :(

The boyfriend and I visited on a Sunday afternoon, just in time for lunch. I ordered the chana masala(vegan) and the boyfriend got the lamb. I checked into Unilocal and up popped up a free appetizer — veggie pakoras. The veggie pakoras(vegan) are vegetables rolled in chickpea flour and deep fried. HOLYMOLY! The flavors were bouncing off the wall! I will definitely order it next time. I got the 4 out of 5 spicy on the chana. The spice definitely kicked my ass. Next time, I’ll go to 3, haha! The waitress was really nice and super attentive. Made sure the water was always filled up and made sure everything tasted good. Overall, the interior of the restaurant is very pleasing, the food is incredible, the service is awesome. I will be back!

Vegan friendly: Yes! Service: Attentive Food: Excellent Prices: Reasonable We stopped here on a road trip since Indian food is often vegan friendly. Our server was *very* knowledgeable in pointing out what entrees and sauces were or were not vegan. Appetizer: Vegetable pakoras(v) — Could have been crispier but were wonderful and split perfectly between three people. I could drink that tamarind sauce. Lentil Soup(v) — So good! We only got one bowl but wished we’d each gotten our own. Don’t skip it. Entrée: Artichoke Biryani(v) — Wasn’t fantastic but fed all three of us with leftovers. Next time we’ll get a Dahl or a curry instead. Overall, a very enjoyable and reasonably priced meal. The food was fresh, not too heavy, and well portioned.

WHAT I LOVED — Best Indian food in town honestly! I’ve had Saag Aloo all over the world and there’s has got to be one of my favorites. Vegan friendly — This is also a great place to come if you are vegan. They cook with oils and have a variety of great vegan dishes(Rotin, Eggplant curry, etc.) to choose from. Buffet — Their lunch buffet generally has a great selection and can be extremely delicious on the right day. OPPORTUNITIESFORGROWTH — Their buffet dishes can be a bit watery sometimes. I don’t know if it’s because of the steamers or what, but that’s always a bit of a bummer. Other than that, it’s pretty great, and I’ve also caught the buffet on days where the dishes weren’t watery… satisfied tummy!

Un super restaurant ! On peut choisir combien la nourriture va piquer: 1 – 5. Il y a beaucoup de choix mais la seule chose contre cet établissement c’est que je n’ai pas vu un seul indien. Alors, je me demande s’il est vraiment authentique.
