I stop in here fairly often, once or twice a month, sometimes more. The food is not spectacular, but if you time your visit just right, you’ll be there when they actually have some stuff on the belt and the hot foods are actually hot. You will not get an sort of service here. Sometimes they forget to take your drink order, and forget about getting a refill! Regardless of how busy they are, whether they’ve got a full house or there is no one else but you, the waiters take no notice of you. The biggest problem here is that there is rarely anything good on the belt, meaning it is absolutely imperative that you get the attention of one of those waiters if you want to eat dinner! And like I said above, that’s a challenge! Why aren’t there any decent sushi places in Tacoma? We are a port.

The sushi is really good! The times we have been it’s always fresh and perfectly prepared. When we are in the area we like to do sushi here. As for comments about the wait staff, they are the same as any other conveyor sushi place. Recommending for the food!

Good food but service sucks! Waitresses are rude and pretty much ignore you. They are pretty slow at making the food and keeping the items stocked.

This place needs to make a huge improvements on their staff. I wanted spend more when eating. But the staff was more interested to clean out the table instead ask if wanted a refill on ice water? :(:(:(:(:(. This app ask to rate the restaurant. If I could I would have even give a rating at all. This meaning you could have spend your hard earning money else where than this place. ###The worse ever services in the restaurant industry!!!

We live it here. 4 people $ 100 … spending that kind of $ worth it if everyone is full. They have a ton of different rolls to try! Bland, spicy, raw, cooked, fried… you name it they have it!

This is a conveyor belt sushi place. The one difference between this one and other similar restaurants I’ve been to is that all of the same item is grouped together and there’s a sign telling you want it’s called and sometimes what’s in it. They have fresh strawberries and watermelon. Ramune soda is available on the belt. I didn’t order anything special except tea which was brought out promptly. One star was deducted because several items were room temperature. The fruit was cold though.

Had a bad experience with this place. Overpriced:/ the sushi is not that great! And customer service could be better. The Both times I was there. Felt like they were rushing me to finish so I could pay!

The service was good, wait staff were friendly, however, the quality of the food was seriously lacking. We chose a few plates where the raw fish smelled too fishy(old) and the vegetable rolls tasted old. Very disappointing– we will not return.

So our waitress left after getting us our drinks. We had to flag down someone else and tried to order but was told we could only order hot food. 10 minutes later after the food we wanted was already taken we had to place an order because they were about to close. But it was better we did because this place clearly does not keep track of how long their food is left out. Sushi isn’t good room temp. I better not get the squirts! Also really over priced for sushi. $ 37 later we are going to stop at the food court.

Much improved from last visit. I was surprised they were still open. Busier this time but most people go for the deep fried stuff first. They have RAMEN now. Huge bowl dor about $ 9.

We went to have dinner here. The sign said open and sign says open for another hour. The employee tells us that they are closed. We will never go back

Not a good sign when the conveyor belt is full & the restaurant is empty — makes you wonder how long it’s been on there! And, it’s dirty! The menus are dirty, the containers of wasabi, ginger & soy sauce are sticky — GROSS! No thanks, I’ll pass.

This place is terrible. Just go to sushi revolution, and even that place isnt amazing. All the times I have gone, service is terrible and the food is terrible. Theres so much of a negative vibe from the sushi chefs and servers that I never go in anymore, maybe its animosity amongst themselves? By terrible service I mean slow and servers chatting with each other and you having to flag them down when theres maybe 3 other customers. The food is what makes any restaurant as well, and this place hardly deserves one star. Every time I have eaten here, the sushi is not fresh, over priced because its the mall which makes sense, and nothing is seasoned or chilled properly. From the two out of three times I’ve eaten here I got food poisoning. I know its from this place specifically because I love sashimi and eat it often, it was an hour right after that I started feeling noxious, and I ate nothing but a mocha before hand. So… it has to be this place. Its really unfortunate that a place in the Tacoma mall, especially sushi, is not up to par with even ‘Just okay’ sushi. Unless you can convince me otherwise, I wont be going in at all.

Not impressed. The selection left me feeling… Eh. The taste of Sake wasn’t fresh and you could clearly tell that a lot of the plates on the belt have been out there for a while… The atmosphere, and service aren’t that great either, I had to wait about 7minutes before they could bring soy sauce cause our table was missing it, and if you’re a fan of water refills this is definitely not the place for you as you will find yourself dying of thirst because they only came back once the whole time we were there to refill… In other words. I won’t be going back here. But 2 stars for the effort!

I used to genuinely love this place. Bf and I would come for what we called sushi Sunday when they still did happy hour. The last couple times we’ve come I’ve gotten food poisoning from fish left on the belt for too long. The first time I hoped it was a fluke. The second time I wanted to only menu order because I saw how sparce their belt was and know that’s when fish gets left on too long but the waiter grabbed one of mine off the belt. The rice stuck to the plate… I still tried it and that was my fault. Fast forward to me puking all evening when sushi was the only thing I had really eaten that day. Not good.

I’m so glad that some time ago I realized that Unilocal for Tacoma is often WAY off. I’ve been to places with solid 5 star reviews that friends and I have left and quite literally said we’d rather have had fast food(which is saying something since none of us eat fast food). Places where people are obviously searching for something nice to say simply because they like the people who own the place. Quick tip, that’s not how to write a review about food folks… even if you like the people if the food stinks you’d better admit that with your rating. And on the other end of the spectrum I’ve been to places like this where people say the food(and every other thing they can possibly find to rate) is horrible and they couldn’t be more wrong. Needless to say I’m REALLY glad I gave this place a try as it’s easily my favorite sushi place anywhere near here and as for food is some of the best I’ve had for what rolls, etc I want. First, as for the complaints about what is on the belt. Hint, if you come in off hours to a belt place and there’s a ton of stuff on the belt don’t eat there. If you don’t see something you want, ask. Not really all that hard folks. Places that over prepare food will likely make you sick. I appreciate that they don’t do that here. During regular hours and even most other times there’s food on the belt but completely stocked and overstocked for the time of day? No. Good on them for knowing better. Second, the selection is stellar, far more than I’ve seen at almost any other place I’ve been. Third, the cost… The idea that the cost for this place is high is just ludicrous. We had a huge stack of plates when we left the first time and got out for under $ 30. I was honestly amazed that the bill wasn’t larger. At any other place it certainly would have been… most likely twice that. As for noise, no different than any other sushi place of it’s kind. The music wasn’t loud by any means. I will say that the service is not as good as I’ve seen at other places(though sometimes other places are a bit too in your face). If they could improve this a bit they’d easily get 5 stars from me. Either way, I’m guessing I’ll eat here at least once a week over the summer if not more. With prices like this and great food I can’t imagine why I wouldn’t.

The service was terrible. When we arrived, the restaurant was empty. We took a booth and requested miso soup. A second group later entered and sat in a booth near us. And they requested miso soup. Their soup arrived, ours still did not. We asked again for soup. No soup for us!!! We finally got up and left. The group near us was clearly having a good time. If you go to this restaurant, you might also have a good experience. But if you need better than 50% chance of having a good experience, find a different place to eat. Now I know why the restaurant was empty.

I wanted to get my sushi fix and since my boyfriend and I had plans to stop by Tacoma Mall, he recommended Sushi Express. We always try to find new sushi places, so I agreed.(It’s located by Nordstrom). We walked into the place and the only worker that was visible was the sushi chef. We stood there looking lost for about a minute or two. At the exact same moment that sushi chef signals us to have a seat, a host/waitress walks out and asked us if we’d like a booth or bar seat. We are seated, asked what we want to drink, and from then on. the service was a-ok. She asked if we were ok a few times, but disappeared for too long when we needed out check. Let’s talk about taste now! I’ve had so much better. I’m sorry, but coming from an island where sushi is fresh… Ugh, I can’t exaggerate how much lack of taste existed. The only great thing I had was the seaweed salad. I don’t think I will be back. Even with the awesome 20% off entire bill that you can find online. No printing needed.
