Came here yesterday for a haircut for my little monster. Upon arrival I was pleased to see s play area which is nice to distract kids. They have a space ship and jeep for children to sit in for their cuts and if they’re not excited about that then they have plenty of other distractions. DVDs with cartoons, lollipops, books, and toys. Lucky for me my guy didn’t want ANY of those things so I had to sit with him in the big chair while he screamed and wailed. Finally after ten grueling minutes of non stop screaming and a buzz cut it was time to pay and cheer him up. Only problem was they accept cash or check only! Next time I’ll come with cash and probably wait until he’s a little older because apparently no matter what the distraction some kids just don’t like haircuts! Luckily the staff here, if your kid is like mine don’t mind the screaming and try to distract nonstop and show them the devices they use to ease their fear.

I would recommend this place to anyone. The stylists are warm and patient with children. The ambience and décor is super cute and peaceful. It is set up for children in every way: fun salon chairs with buckles, TVs & DVDs at every station, lots of toys in the waiting area. Parking and location are very convenient as well. Appointments are VERY easy to schedule online– don’t try calling as they don’t staff a receptionist or answer calls during cuts. Lastly and most important– every single hair cut my toddler boys have had there, have been fabulous. SUCH a difference from a chain salon with cheap cuts. I’m normally very frugal but the 10 extra bucks you pay for a cut here is worth every penny. Come prepared with cash or check as they keep costs down by not accepting credit/debit cards.

We were referred by a friend as our place we previously took our children was closed. I’m so glad she gave us the referral as we’ve been a couple of times now and have been very happy. Crystal typically cuts the kids hair and does a great job(not to mention is awesome with small people).

Awesome place — tried it for the first time today with my son(8) and daughter(9). My son did NOT like to have his hair cut by ANYONE — but sat in the chair just fine while Kristine worked her magic! He walked away and said«Mom, I look like a million bucks.» He sure did! We will return for sure. My daughter had a fabulous manicure with Nicole, too. Great place — and super convenient online scheduling, too! I was able to book these appointments over the weekend when the salon was closed.( )

Great haircuts, good prices, and fun for the kids! My kids are 5 and under, and all love coming here to watch a show while sitting in a cool airplane chair. The ladies here are great as well, and always make my kids feel comfortable.

Crystal is the bomb. She’s been cutting our son’s hair since he has been getting haircuts. The place is perfect for kids and the staff is always great.

Charming salon for kids! The new location is adorable and my 8 yr old was thrilled to be there. Parking is an improvement from the previous location. The staff is consistently kind and patient with youngsters which is my #1 priority. My daughter(who doesn’t like her hair touched ATALL) leaves full of smiles. Decent selection of up to date trashy magazines so I can catch up on the Kardashians while my daughter gets her hair done. The salon is super tidy and organized. Cons: It can be tough to reach them for an appointment. Be prepared for some phone tag. I solved this problem by booking my next appointment in advance. Sometimes life is more easily conducted face-to-face. Moderate pricing, but I’ve found their haircuts grow out so nicely, really in the long run you are saving money.

The message/call back system for appointment making is hit or miss, but it’s a small outfit, so it is what it is. We took our very shy son in for an overdue cut and the stylist was fabulous with him. The décor is very inviting for kiddos and the special seats and movie options were a tremendous help in making this a smooth process, which is what this is about for a 3 year old. The cut itself was fine, but a little too long for our liking so I ended up calling to see if we could bring him back in to make it shorter. I got a call back immediately and she was extremely accommodating and nice about it and didn’t even charge us for it. The only problem is now our son likes haircuts and thinks this a weekly thing!

Brought my two kids here for their first hair cut and the ladies there were amazing at making my kids feel comfortable. There was a play area for them to hang out in while they waited. This place is really nice inside with pleasing décor for kids with fun barber chairs like jeeps and airplanes. Place seemed like it was still under construction when we visited, and the stylist we made an appointment with was late so they lost some points on that. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and I would definitely bring my kids back here.

We visited the new location, after making a same day appointment over the phone, with Nicole. Our daughter went in for her first haircut. At 3 ½ and with very long, thick hair, we were wary of losing her beautiful natural structure. Nicole was patient and reassuring, listening and attentive to our anxiousness as our daughter is very shy. It took a little while, but our daughter relaxed soon as Nicole and I chatted away. As she finished drying her hair, we were awestruck with how fantastic she did, giving our girl the perfect first cut! The braid and ribbon was a great bonus. As soon as we walked out, our daughter looked at us, smiled, and said she loved her haircut. I’d call that a big win! Thanks Nicole for doing such a fantastic job! We’re so happy to become your regulars here!

The best. If you want a really GOOD haircut for your child, then make an appointment. They are extremely busy and booked up, they are not a Great Clips type of shop. No, they are not inexpensive but you get what you pay for and Crystal and Kristine, will cut your child’s hair beautifully. Plus they are very sweet and you & your child will leave happy.

Love this place but most importantly my daughter loves this place. Amazing customer service, quality cuts/styles and they take their time with each child and make them feel comfortable. Won’t take my daughter anywhere else!

We love Wild Child! Crystal always gives us what we want! We have had bad experiences at other places with stylists not listening to us, but not here! My kiddo loves getting to watch a movie & drive the little planes & such. Though we only do this once or twice a year, because it does cost more than mom trimming at home!

I’m really surprised by the negative reviews. I’ve taken my kids to Wild Child twice and have gotten great customer service and great haircuts. Their hair looks great(but still like little kids — not just mini-versions of grown-ups!), Crystal has done a great job both times, and I’ve had no problem getting appointments, including leaving messages and having the staff call me back. We haven’t had any trouble with parking or anything else. Yes, it’s a little more expensive than going to Great Clips, but a.) your kids aren’t going to get their ears cut off because they’re wiggly; b.) they’re actually going to think getting a haircut is fun; and c.) they’re going to LOOK like they got a quality haircut, not what someone did as quickly as possible at your standard strip mall joint. I recommend Wild Child and will keep going back there, even though it’s a bit of a drive!

My son is 5 and Wild Child is the only place we’ve taken him to get his haircut since his first one at about a year old. He is most definitely NOT the easiest kid to give a haircut. He hates strangers and new places, either of which can cause a lot anxiety and in combination can lead to a full-scale melt-down. In spite of the difficult challenge I know he presents, my son’s haircuts have been consistently great. It can’t be easy to cut hair on a child that screams and squirms as much as he’s been known to, but they’ve always managed it with a sense of humor and understanding. The availablity of movies to watch and fun chairs(airplanes & cars) to sit in definitely helps soothe a cranky child and the stockpile of toys in the waiting area kept us there for 30 minutes after our last appointment so my son could play. I also think it’s worth mentioning that I’ve seen kids in their mid-teens in their getting their hair cut at Wild Child because that’s how long they’ve been getting their hair cut there. My only reason for not going a full 5 stars is that it’s not the easiest place to get an appointment(which I think is an indicator of how popular the place is with area parents); I don’t think I’ve called and not had to leave a message on a machine more than once and they’re closed on Sundays which is limiting for a working parent that lives 30 minutes away and works over an hour in the opposite direction. Not really a terrible inconvenience, but it’d be nice if it was easier to get a hold of someone at the salon and Sundays were an option.

I’ve taken my daughter to Wild Child for a haircut twice, and tried to schedule haircuts with 48 hrs notice on three other occasions. In general, they lack customer service and have an attitude seeming to relay«we don’t need your business». If you schedule your appointment far in advance, show up on time, and are fine with the price, you’ll likely not have an issue. However, if you need a haircut in the next day or two, I would avoid them. If you can get them on the phone at all, they are not accommodating, and not very pleasant.

I have mixed feelings about Wild Child: The Good: 1) The ladies who work there are good with kids and very friendly. 2) They do a great job with my girls’ hair and they will give them a cute little braid and ribbon along with a sucker at the end of the haircut. 3) movies and cool stations for kids to sit in. 3) posh neighborhood right across from a cupcake bakery! The Bad: 1) It takes some effort to get an appointment. Sometimes I wonder if they really want my business. They really need a different answering system. When you call to make an appointment you get a machine and never a real person. You then are required to leave a message and sometimes they will call you back. Often you have to call and leave a message more than once. 2) No walk-ins(see above) 3) A little pricey, but you do get all kinds of ‘extras’ like scented shampoo and the cute hairstyle at the end. 3) Good luck finding a good parking space. I often have to park at Safeway a block away and walk there. Verdict: I would absolutely love this place if the establishment acted like they wanted my business. I totally hate the ‘we’ll cal you back if we feel like it’ routine. If there were other hair places in tacoma that catered to kids in the same way, and made it easier to make an appointment I would easily change over.

Pros: 1. Great location, trendy neighborhood. 2. Good toys, movies at every station, fun options for kids to sit in(think airplane, helicopter etc.) 3. Cute hair clips and headbands Cons: 1. Hight turnover 2. Rarely answer phones, making it impossible to make an appointment. Walk ins are scoffed at as if you’re entering Spago in Beverly Hills circa 1990. 3. Kinda dirty 4. Parking! Parallel street parking only, which(and I speak from experience) can be a challenge when you’re wrangling kiddos in the rain and having to walk blocks. 5. Pricey: two kids, $ 65 total with tip. Hmmmm.

This was our second time here getting our little boy a hair cut. They have a car or airplane chair for the kids to sit in during their hair cut. We had two different stylists and both ladies were awesome. They are very patient and extremely friendly. It is a little pricey but the haircut lasts a lot longer compare to other places we have taken him to.
