Taft is devoid of five star anythings so if you are forced to stay there you have my sympathy. However the Sunset Motel is not bad, Four Seasons it aint more like Two Seasons but its clean and doesn’t smell weird like many Motels and is all there is for miles in every direction. Definitely OK.

This is a very unpretentious motel converted from cheap apartments on both sides of a street. I am rating it highly against one-star-amenity hotels/motels. I was in Taft, my old home town, which I left for college in 1961. They were having their 100th anniversary Oildorado celebration, and this was the only motel with rooms available when we reserved. It was not a motel 50 years ago. but I bet the units were here. The room was large enough with a queen bed. There was a TV in the room with an extensive menu of cable channels. Wi-fi was free and the connection was fast. Ample drawer and writing space. An air conditioner in the unit.(Taft is HOT in the summer). The linen was a bit frayed, but it and the room were spotlessly clean. Outside was noisy, but it *was* Oildorado Days. Lots of motorcycles without mufflers in town. There’s a very nice 24-hour diner next door. A hairdryer, iron, and board were available from the office. I intend to stay here next year for my 50th reunion.
