Im not a breakfast person but my friends had to stop. Went in around 10 on a Monday morning. Ordered an egg sandwich on a plain bagel + bacon = $ 8.10. Within about 8min I had my sandwich, wrapped and ready to go. Before I left I asked for ketchup(i know. for eggs) They quickly replied no, they have none in the building! I guess it’s BYOK. I noticed they had a common brand hot sauce avaliable but I wasn’t feeling spicy. The bagel was pretty good for California standards. eggs and bacon cooked perfect, cheese nice and melty. Hit the spot. I’d return. especially if they start offering ketchup.

The staff alternates between casual, well-meaning hospitality and seeming contempt for their customers. I had a pleasant experience on one visit, followed by a ten-minute wait for a toasted bagel the next, tossed across the counter with the same regard I’d expect if it was being tossed into the trash. I want to love Syd’s, and there’s an aspect of the staff’s «who gives a f***?» attitude that I find attractive, it being of that confident, self-possessed, «I’m days away from a Red Bull sponsorship deal; this is just to pay the rent and free espresso,» variety. But, seriously, could you please toast me a bagel in under five minutes?

I had a bagel which was good. I especially liked the veggie cream cheese. Had the very berry smoothy which was OK. Giving them two stars because the girls working there were rude and seemed annoyed with the customers. After reading some other reviews I noticed a lot of complaints from the service not so much the food which is sad because obviously the management/owners doesn’t care to improve it. It’s not just the food, the service matters too! What a great location they have, they only need to be nicer.

Can’t understand why you would give less that 4 stars. Coffee was excellent and so was device and its a cool little place right in the lake. Ok so I changed it to 3 stars. We walked in 2 days later cause we liked the place as soon as we walked in the girl behind the counter yelled at us so we knew they weren’t making any food and they were closing in 30 min. Why wouldn’t you just make food until you close? Especially when the place was packed!

3 stars bagels and 4 star espresso can be found at Syd’s location at the side of the lake. Bagels and spreads are unexciting but decent enough, and I’ll find myself back sooner or later. I’d rate the caliber of bagel/spread just below Noah’s. The espresso, on the other hand, was of excellent flavor and quality, perfectly pulled and beyond what you would expect from Starbucks or most independent coffee shops. I’ll return when in the area.

If you’re a food business lucky enough to stay open year round in Tahoe City you’re working hard to produce a good product on top of making the right decisions. With that said, I’m not sure how Syd’s does it. The product, mediocre compared to other similar business in the area producing a good product. The service, incompetent on a good day; normally I don’t like leaving a bad review but these people couldn’t burn toast if you asked them to. The only good thing about this place is the location, which is the only reason they’ve been able to stay open. My money will be spent elsewhere!

My husband and I came in here because we were craving coffee and a quick bite to eat. The staff was ok. At first all of them seemed really rude, especially the foreign brunette that took our order, who acted like she just hated life. Whatever though, I just wanted my husband to get his coffee fix… and for my tummy to be full. We ordered a decaf espresso and my husband thought it was phenomenal. He was happy. We were also impressed with the chicken chipotle sandwich. Very, very delicious. Just enough spice and flavor with that chipotle aioli. The bread was crisp and yet, still soft. The guy making drinks with the beard and hat(who I initially thought was a jerk), ended up making me a vanilla iced coffee and his attitude changed immediately once the girl he was working with went in the back… Maybe he didn’t like her or something. He turned it around for the stars though, because they were getting two at first.

On my visit to Tahoe City, I had breakfast at Syd’s twice. The fist time I had the breakfast burrito with bacon. Good stuff, however the second time I had the breakfast sandwich, and boy was that delicious!!! Make sure to get there before 10AM to get a free cup of coffee with your sandwich!

Food was good. Service was poor. The staff called our name to pick up food at the counter, but then after we’d taken it to our table, we realized it wasn’t what we’d ordered. It turned out it was someone else’s order. Not a big deal, but somehow it got turned into a real argument between the people I was with and the server about just whose fault it was. I could wish my guests were a little mellower, but even more, I wish the staff would just let it go. It was an unpleasant experience.

Cute, clean little place. Service was friendly and fast. I got an iced mocha and it was tasty. However, the breakfast burrito with their homemade salsa was sooooo good! One of the best breakfast burritos I’ve ever had. They only have 3 «Signature bagels». They all look good but it would have been nice to have more options.

Syd’s is mediocre at best this summer. The Alpen Sierra beans are gone, and the new coffee beans are horrible. Not to mention, when I asked for three shots the barista argued with me that he could only do two or four because of the composition of the drink. I have been a barista for three years. A 24oz coffee drink should have 2 – 3 shots of espresso. ANDHELLO, don’t ever argue with the paying customer. ALSO the bagels are NOT homemade. The owner orders the bagels from the Safeway bakery in Kings Beach. Honestly, this business needs a huge turnover, better product, and more friendly workers.

I’m from Los Angeles area and am familiar with many sandwich shops. This one has become one of my favorites. I had the Chipotle chicken sandwich and it tasted fantastic! It was full of flavor and served warm. It needed no condiments. The service was friendly. It took a little for the food to come but was well worth the wait. When I come back to lake Tahoe I will be returning here.

I walked into this place and was immediately greeted by a friendly barista. We talked about the whole bean that was for sale and were very happy to answer my questions on the style cappuccino they make. Thoroughly enjoyed my coffee. I was too full to get a bagel but they looked yummy.

One of the few places to get a «decent» espresso in Tahoe City. I have enjoyed this place for years. Why 2 stars then? Be ready for the preachy barista to tell you how to drink your espresso. «You have to drink it in 30 seconds» «You cant have it over ice» «you added a tablespoon of cream, we should charge you for a latte now» Ugh, make the espresso and keep your opinion to yourself. Remember when a customer could pay $ 4 for an espresso and drink it how they like it? The only reason why I had to modify it was because they use a new roaster which isnt nearly as good as Alpen Sierra roast which they used to serve. Syds lost my coffee business today. I will go elsewhere. Bagels are good though.

Syd’s is clearly upping their game. We have been coming here for seven years — it was good, but never great. Coffee was standardly bad. But, it’s Tahoe City, so we put up with it. Today, we walked in and saw a new La Marzocco coffee machine and good beans on display. And someone who clearly knows how to make lattes(the tattoos inspire confidence), third wave style. Our lives have been improved.

One of the worst cups of coffee I have ever had. I asked if they did pour over for a cup of coffee and the answer was a NO. The two employees looked like they did not want to be there and were doing a BIGFAVORHELPINGME ??? It tasted like the coffee was made at 6AM and at 2PM the bottom of the pot was my cup. Needless to say, I poured the cup out after a couple of tastes so $ 2.75 for a 12OUNCE cup. Do not waste your time at this place, they have a horrible attitude, a below average product and a ridiculous price.

I love Syd’s food and coffee! So yummy… The breakfast burrito is good and the view is worth it all! I only gave 3 stars because the service is never that great and unfortunately they did just remove a good portion of their menu which had some great warm sandwiches on if. Bummer!

To start, I’ve been a patron of Syd’s for about a year. I’ve frequented the shop for morning coffees and breakfast bagels. While the food and coffee is good, the service is absolutely horrendous. Every order I place becomes an arduous endeavor, and seems like an inconvenience to the employees. Usually employees are happy to receiving business, but apparently not at Syds. Maybe their style is acting like they don’t care, but the attitude does not make me want to come back. And I’ve been more patient than the rest of my family. Furthermore, I spoke to the manager about mistakes made on my order: half full coffees and bagels missing ingredients(payed an extra $ 4 for turkey, didn’t receive it). He was neither apologetic or remorseful. Until this place gets better management and employees who actually care about the customer, I will not be coming back. And neither should you. We deserve better.

Came on a busy Friday morning to find a standard line. Glancing the menu, I debated between the Huevos Rancheros bagel sandwich($ 6.50) and the Salmon Mousse($ 5.50). a friend got that one, and I got the Huevos Rancheros. Both were delicious, hit the spot– fresh bagels and other ingredients, hot from the toaster and grill, wrapped up to go with quick delivery for only about $ 7 each. The Salmon Mousse is a great alternative to the Bagel with Lox option that’s twice as much in price, still coming with the essential red onion, tomato and capers. The black bean salsa on the Huevos Rancheros tasted exactly like normal salsa– a bit spicier than pico de gallo, but not anything frijole about it… Definitely coming back here next time I’m in King’s Beach, Lake Tahoe! Perfect breakfast for someone with adventures to tackle, not sitting around for waiter-service.

This coffee shop is a special visit each time. It is located right on Tahoe Lake with a stellar view. Frank Sinatra singing thru the speakers, coffee is excellent– fresh and full body. Lox bagel is highly recommended! I chose Lox with light cream cheese and it was fantastic. Come early on the weekend if you enjoy peace and quiet. If you love being social come later:)
