Atmosphere, Atmosphere, Atmosphere. That’s what strikes me when coming to Bird’s. Oysters — Burgers — Chicken — Grouper —(and Veggie Burgers). That’s the foundation of the menu. From there, you can«plug & play» all sorts of combinations(spices, dressings, sides, etc…). When the weather permits, I’m big on the outdoor seating — largely because it has that rural feel virtually in the most urban concentration of TLH — so, I like the duality. That said, there’s really nothing compelling about the outdoor décor. On the contrary, it’s quite bland. So, if interesting wall hangings are more your thing — then you certainly belong indoors. I’ve never been for the entertaining and culturally rich evening events — but I’d like to. For lunch, it’s conveniently downtown AND the burgers are fantastic.

To be honest, I didn’t think there food was anything incredible. It was good, but that’s not why they have their stars. Bird’s get there stars from their atmosphere and community alone. At Bird’s what you see is what you get. While there you can count on good service, good food and a fun time. I especially recommend going on Thursdays for karaōke. They have a good amount of regulars in varying ages. Also the water moccasin shot is fantastic.

First class place! Best grouper sandwich in town. It gets crowded on Thursday nights!

Not the prettiest of places(it is a bit of a no frills place but lots of room) but it doesn’t matter when the food is this good! I had the grouper sandwich and it was so tasty. The fish was fresh and cooked perfectly. It was a huge serving too. Definitely worth every penny. If I lived nearby I would get this regularly. Highly recommend. Service was great as well.

Argueably the best burger in town. We all know there are now many(maybe a few too many) recently added burger options in Tallahassee. I’m not sure why it took me so many years to finally give this place a try, but I’m glad I finally did. This place is a true«dive bar»…in a good way! Lots of vintage album covers and posters adorn the walls and ceiling. Word of warning… when it’s busy, be prepared to create your own parking spot. The lot is pretty rough, with no defined spaces. They offer two sizes of burger patties… a 10oz and a 20oz. This is impressive in itself. Most burger joints offer a standard 8oz or smaller. I opted for the 10oz and added cheddar cheese, bacon and sauteed red onions. The burger itself was very well seasoned and cooked medium(I forgot to ask for my preferred medium rare but the medium was just fine). The toppings were abundant and perfectly cooked. The onion rings were above average. Service was good but not memorable, which was not a big deal considering the overall vibe of the place. I’m looking forward to giving the grouper sandwich a try and fasting one day so I can go for the 20oz burger.

I’ve got to admit walking into Bird’s my expectations of enjoying great food were pretty low. BOY, WAS I WRONG. There are only around four items on the menu and I ordered the 10ounce hamburger with bacon, blue cheese, and an egg. The burger was thick and cooked to perfection. There was a 20 ounce burger for $ 3 extra as well, but the smaller burger was more than enough for me. I got fries and a pickle with it. My friend also said his onion rings were fantastic. I’ll definitely come back again for this masterpiece…

Don’t let the look of the building(inside/out) scare you off. This is some of the best food I’ve had! It’s a dive bar with awesome food and a diverse crowd. If you pay for your order in cash, you get $ 1 off of each meal!(Which is great! I ended up getting $ 3 off of the total bill). They have a pretty decent size list of beer selections as well. Their menu is simple and you can add on toppings to your meals as you please for additional costs. We decided to sit at a table since the bar was completely full. By the time we got there(around 7pm), it was bar service only(which we were warned about and completely fine with!). So, we had to go up to the bar to order our meal and pay for it at the bar. When the food is out, a server brings it to the table. What my dining partner and I ordered: ½ dozen($ 6.50 total w/my cash discount) oysters steamed well done(per request) with parmesan and garlic to start off with. For our meal, we each got a burger w/various toppings with a side of onion rings and a side of fries. The oysters were some of the best oysters I have ever had. They were flavorful and cooked just right. They were also shucked just right too, no small shells left behind. Now on to the burgers… Oh my gosh, both my boyfriend and I agreed(finally, we agree on something) that the burger was one of the best burgers we have ever had(and we eat a lot of cheese burgers lol). First of all, a 10oz cheese burger(which is huge!) cost us $ 8.50(w/cash discount). The meat was flavorful and juicy and anything but dry! It was cooked perfect. The onion rings were fresh, flavorful, and hot! The fries were the perfect amount of crisp outside with the perfect amount of soft inside. The fries were also seasoned perfectly, like the burger. Awesome job to the chefs! They did great. I can’t believe I’ve passed this place up as many times as I have. I can’t wait to go back and eat my next meal at Bird’s(again and again).

I was looking for a place in Tallahassee to get oysters so I was excited to try this place based on the reviews. I agree that the place has a nice dive bar feel but every thing else was average at best. The beer list was long on IPAs but not much else in terms of anything local or micro on tap. I had raw oysters and they didn’t seem very fresh. They were ok, but this close to the Bay, I’d expect better. I had the grouper blackened but it was mushy and tasteless. My wife’s burger was burned on the bottom. Everyone ordered onion rings which were decent but served lukewarm.

Great atmosphere. Great food… the onion rings are definitely my fav onion rings ever. I had my oysters raw and they tasted very fresh. Didn’t have to ask for condiments(cocktail sauce, tabasco, etc) which is a bonus. The only thing that lagged a bit was service at the bar(slooooow) but the food and beer selection more than made up for it.

Just enjoyed my first visit to Birds. Great atmosphere. Definitely a local«hole in the wall»…(that’s a good thing!) Awesome burgers! Good beer selection. Straight forward menu. No frills! Will definitely be back.

This is the perfect spot to get a little local flavor if you find yourself in Tallahassee. The micro brew selection was accommodating to my sensitive palate as I hate Hoppy beers, however they have plenty of IPAs and such as well. Best part… I got a dozen delicious Oysters for just $ 11! What a steal! The grouper sandwich looked amazing… I would recommend splitting that and oysters if there are more than one of you. The staff is friendly enough given the dicey nature. The place was pretty crowded and mostly locals on a Wednesday evening!

«Take me back/back to the shack.» Honestly, how can you not dig this place? Gigantic burgers with salty fries, inexpensive craft beer and live entertainment nearly every day are what makes the world go round(at least to me). The killer atmosphere houses vintage movie posters, retro album covers and every obscure idiosyncrasy in between. The dive bar’s simplistic menu possesses five items. This is not a joke. But Bird’s proves that quality over quantity will forever reign supreme. Whether items from land or sea, you have a 100% chance of liking every option. The portions are completely outrageous, you are sure to be stuffed afterwards. My only problem with my last visit was that the burger was cooked well done. I think this happened due to one of my friends ordering his burger well done, which resulted in all of our burgers being cooked well done. I’ve never had this happen before, so I’m not docking any points from Bird’s, but make sure you specify how you want yours prepared! Their continuous support of local, live music, comedy and all around entertainment earn multiple brownie points in my book. The owners are usually present, resulting in consistency, success and a massive following. Now you might not find a parking spot, but Bird’s is well worth the short walk. Bird’s, you have my seal of approval. Five oyster-shuckin’ stars.

This is a total dive bar that has a very loyal following and everyone in Tally seemed to recommend this place. I sat at the bar and had the grouper sandwich prepared Bird Special style and it was very good for $ 12. Overall the bathrooms are pretty gross, the décor is definitely biker bar meets college grunge and the service can be pretty spotty. They have live music on many nights, but I was here for lunch. I would like to try the oysters and burger next time and will try to stop by when a local band is playing.

I have enjoyed every visit I have had here. I have tried every menu item they have, all four of them(oysters, chicken sandwich, grouper sandwich and burgers). Food takes a little while, which is understandable for a ginormous 10oz burger with a variety of toppings. Love all the side items and the cheap price for beer. Can you tell I am a fan?!? Having been all over town, and I know this is a controversial comment to make, but I think this is the best burger in Tallahassee. Still amazed that they can stay in business with the pricing they have!

The menu is straight forward so it won’t take you long to figure out what you want. When you do you’ll love it! I usually get pineapple and jalapeños with Swiss and it’s so good. I cannot wait to go back and get another!

This place has the best burger in town without a doubt! I love the atmosphere live music and am confident calling it a Tallahassee staple. The staff and owners are 100% deserving of the places success. I highly recommend going for Karaōke on Thursdays! The turn out is very big and the quality of the singers is surprisingly impressive. Trust me you will love this place if your a «burger joint enthusiast»!!

Oh the epitome of a College Bar Night. This place is ridiculous, quirky, and so off beat I just didn’t know what to do with myself when invited by a friend one night. We came here and met up with a few friends on a Thursday night for Karaōke. Filled with tons of drunk and yelling young adults I was right at home. It is very divey and shacky. Some good priced beers and drinks here. Must get the fries and next time I will probably try the oysters. I love how they have themes every night to get the flow going. Indoor and outdoor picnic table seating here as well. Just be yourself and talk and get along with everyone. It is a simple good time with no worries kind of place.
