The food is the same as every other Tijuana Flats. The only complaint from me is their lemonade, it tastes more like water mixed with two tablespoons of actual lemonade. Other than that, all the employees were very respectful.

Service: 5⁄10 Food: 5⁄10 Pretty average, but the Taco Tuesday under $ 6 can’t be beat. Wheat flour chicken tacos with cheese, lettuce, sour cream and their sweet chili salsa makes for a happy tummy. The meal comes with chips and a drink, but every time I go, the soft drink has ZERO flavor – basically brown water. Must be something with the machine, but I hope they fix it ASAP. I go mostly every Tuesday! Hoping that they’ll do a frequent buyer card for more business incentives. DELICIOSO!

What do you think about when someone says Tex-Mex? The average person believes Taco Bell and that may be correct in someway shape or form, but turning the knob two levels would give you Tijuana Flats. If you go on Tuesday(Taco Tuesday) or Thursday(Throwback Thursdays) you can get two tacos, chips, and a drink for $ 5.49(Tuesday) or A burrito, chips, and a drink for $ 5.99. Not a bad deal for organic meats and vegetables and quality American Mexican food. The sauce bar is awesome with a variety of choices from sweet sauces to «I’m going to burn my lips off but I love it» hot sauces. Staff is very friendly and will always ask you if you need a refill on drinks as you are enjoying great food. A fun fact to know about Tijuana Flats is the first one opened in Winter Park, Florida and many celebrities from Ludacris to the Orlando Magic have enjoyed Tijuana Flats. Beer and Wine is available at your request if a fountain beverage or sweet tea is not in your cravings. Try not to go during rush hour between 11:00AM-12:00pm or 4:00pm-6:00pm because it is close to the University and FSU students such as myself love this place! Place your order to go and dine in so there is no wait(-; Happy Unilocaling! Ricky

I always like Tijuana Flats, and this one is no exception. The servers here were particularly attentive and friendly. Great wait staff. The food was also quick, and tasty. This location is very close to the FSU campus, so I am sure it is usually full of college kids. During this first part of summer though, the place was not too busy on a week night.

In a city with an abundance of fast-food tex-mex, Tijuana Flats is a disappointing and flavorless option. Of the five stars reviews to be found next to this review, there is only one I can readily believe is not from a shill, and even that is suspect. Tijuana Flats is not as good as Moe’s. It’s not as good as Chipotle. Nor Barbarito’s. Nor even the out-of-business(and my favorite) Qdobe. I was really disappointed in every way. If you haven’t already figured out the basic concepts, Tijuana Flats is very similar in concept to the aforementioned restaurants. Key differences from these other chains, however, include the fact that the soda fountains are behind the counter and the food is not made on an assembly line before your eyes. That, and the food sucks. Tijuana Flats is closest in spirit to Moe’s. Where Moe’s is «classic rock» Tijuana Flats is a more modern skater/stoner theme with some pretty good pop music(if you like that sort of thing). The restaurant’s distinctive feature seems to be the hot sauce bar. And it is a cool concept. Rather like the salsa/hot sauce bar at Moe’s, but with a larger selection, Tijuana Flats has about a dozen sauces«on tap» with colorful names, varying heats, and different ingredients. This is probably the highlight of the restaurant. Tijuana Flats is an order-at-the-counter-we’ll-bring-it-to-you type of joint, and that aspect works fine. I will say that the menu is rather confusing. Rather than ordering by item(e.g. enchiladas, burrito, nachos) the prices are based on your choice of meat and then you decide what FORM you want it served in. I opted for the chicken nachos, served all the way with fresh(not pickled) jalapenos, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese(not melted queso), sour cream, and a spoonful of guacamole. It came with a side of salsa. Price somewhere around $ 7. I also opted for the combo meal with rice and beans(choice of black or refried) and a drink for an additonal $ 2.50. The portion that was brought out to me was rather like a summer blockbuster — a really big deal from a distance but as you get closer you realize its entirely devoid of substance. I found myself looking at a $ 7+ meal that consisted of numerous heavy, cold, mediocre tortilla chips covered with thick, heavy melted cheese like I might do at home. The jalapenos? Uh, there were FIVE of them on the top. Two squirts of sour cream I could barely find. It felt like I was panning for gold when I went looking for the chunks of chicken — it was cause for celebration when I came up with a «nugget» on my fork. I discovered more iceberg lettuce and tomato as I got closer to the bottom of this insipid plate of chips and cheese. Beans were also watery and flavorless. On the positive side: The rice was pretty good — king of like the microwaveable Uncle Ben’s Spanish Rice. The salsa was good, and tasted for fresh tomato. The hot sauces were fun, all were good, and the green«iguana»(habanero?) sauce was really good. I just felt really bummed that I had spent so much money on about the same amount of «good stuff» as I’d get in a Taco Bell Chalupa(do they still make those?). Coke products on tap, which is hard to botch. They do serve beers. Service was adequate, no real complaints there. Bottom line: Tijuana Flats is a cool atmosphere insofar as it features a whimsical dining room with cool tunes and interesting art and humor, but this, apparently, comes at the expense of good, affordable food. This will be my LAST choice for fast-food Tex-Mex. Chipotle is about a dollar cheaper per plate and is bursting with both flavor and a generous helping of meat and other toppings.

My hubby and I go here occasionally usually because friends like to eat here when they are in town to visit. It is a casual place. Personally though, we don’t think the food is all that great especially when there are better places less than a mile away and the same price. But this place is fun to eat at because of the interior decoration and sauce bar. The inside feels like it is like the Mexican brother restaurant of Robotos across the street because of the cartoon paintings on the wall(but its not really brother-sister restaurants– completely diff owners i am pretty sure). The ceiling is decorated per square uniquely, the ordering bar area/cashier area feels like mardi gras/new orleans. They also have some TVs around the restaurant. As for the sauce bar, this is fun. They have like 30 sauces? From sweet and mild to ridiculously hot which is fun to try your luck at your ability to eat super spicy(and fun to dare friends to try if its their first time here). The servers and employees working here though are always very nice and friendly.

I enjoyed my visit to Tijuana Flats. I like the causal atmosphere and the laid back vibe. The service was super friendly and even made me a hot sauce sampler tray. This is not gourmet food, but it’s not Taco Bell either. The food was tasty and the service was excellent. I am not a big fan of walk up ordering, but that seems to be the norm around here. I’ll get used to it. The portions and price were what I expected, so no complaints or raves there. If you are looking for fine dinning then try another place, but if you are sick of fast food and dull drab throw it at you through a window service, give it a try. decent food /cool vibe /great hot sauces /excellent service

First visit… Was in the mood for some mexican so thought I’d give TFBC a go. Sunday afternoon and it wasn’t very crowded. Folks were doing lots of pick-ups while there. I like to eat in if i have the time and it’s my first time. Never know how things are when boxed up until you get home. I got the fish tacos. Fell in love with them while living in the San Diego area. A word of caution, if you see them on a menu and they serve them with lettuce, PASS on them! for me, fish tacos HAVE to be served with shredded cabbage, the way they do it here. Got the dinner, so it came with re-fries and rice. I wanted chips too, since I like to dip the chips in the beans and top them with a bit of rice. The beans were very well seasoned as was the rice. The mahi-mahi was supposed to be grilled. It was right on the verge of being charred, but still mostly edible.(two or three bites had the burnt taste in one taco) their pico was fresh and had just the right amount of cilantro. not too much, so that’s all you taste, but enough you know it’s there. Folks, remember to drain some of the liquid off before putting the pico de gallo in the soft taco, so customers don’t have a river dripping down on the plate when they pick it up to eat. Think I got a relatively new server taking my order. But she was great and came and checked a couple times to see how things were going and offering refills. The atmosphere was fun and kitchy. not too over-the-top. The music inside was just loud enough to give you a good energy, but not so loud to be obnoxious. Another reviewer noted that their chips were thick and tasteless. I didn’t find this the case at all. They were nicely thin and mostly seasoned(with salt) well. I did have a few chips that apparently got quadruple salt. Nothing a quick brush-off didn’t take care of. Good food, reasonable prices, servers that actually seem to care(scary how rare that is in Tallahassee) I’ll be back. Check the sauces at the bar…(this is for both patrons and those that work there)… they have them from very mild, sweet & spicy to OMG… on the flip side, i had to pump and pump to get a watery sample of a couple of the flavors, so think the container was pretty close to bone dry.

It’s fast Tex-Mex. I was curious because they’re all over this part of the country. I’m over it. Any fast food Mexican place you can think of is probably better. The music is good though!

I’ve only been twice but haven’t been back. The burrito was super dry(the meat, tortilla, everything) both times and the chips were brittle, flavorless and thick. I like that they have a cool hot sauce bar. If you’re looking for fast-casual Mexican, go to Moe’s.

Dear Tijuana Flats, You’ve become a lighthouse in the sea of mediocre texmex establishments in Tallahassee. I didn’t know how bad it was until you shone your light on me. No longer will I be relegated to the garish liquid«refried beans» and red rice. Stuck ordering off of the menu using a number and relegated to the water thin salsa for the over fried tortilla chips. And wondering if the USDA grade of beef I’m about to eat would be better than the D Mrs. Finklestein gave me for my book report of David Copperfield in the 5th grade. Did you know the book isn’t about magic at all? Who writes a book about David Copperfield and doesn’t include at least one magic trick? No elephant disappearing, woman getting sawed in half, or a mildly attractive man marrying a super model. It’s a literary travesty. My eyes have been opened and I like what I am seeing. You’ve given me so much in the two years we’ve known each other. From the fresh ingredients, to the hot sauce bar, and let’s not forget the seriously awesome customer service. And what do I give you? 10 bucks? Maybe? I feel like I am taking advantage. And seriously, what is the deal with Taco Tuesday? What sort of Enron accounting are you doing where you can afford to sell two tacos, chips, and a drink for $ 4.99? And I’m not sure what addictive substance you’re putting in your wet steak burritos, but I’m pretty sure if you could make it rock form, Charlie Sheen would free base it. If your nachos could pay the mortgage, I’m fairly confident my wife would leave me. They are that good. Or I’m a pretty awful husband. Either way, I like where we are headed. I think I’m a better person for knowing you. It might be because you don’t use trans fats, or the lack of hormones in your chicken and steak. If you listen to my Uncle Eugene, it’s because you don’t use microwaves. He says that microwaves were created by the CIA to control our minds. But, he huffs paint a lot and hasn’t been right since the accident. Whatever the reason for your delicious provisions, you should know that you’ve got a customer for life. Truly yours, William

FAVORITE Tex-Mex restaurant! Used to go every week back in Orlando and the one here in Tallahassee is just as good. The overall layout and feel of the restaurant is great and it’s definitely not too expensive, they’re prices are reasonable. So far I have never had a bad experience and everyone I’ve gone with loves it!
