I drove by this place many times and always notice the name. My husband and I always joke around saying, «want to go to Sexy Saxsay?» Lol. Well after much teasing of the name, we decided to stop in. Wow, I was surprised at how big and nice the inside was. Before we went, we of course Unilocaled it first. Based on the reviews, we thought why not? We love exploring different restaurants and are open to any type of food. When we walked in, on the right side they had a huge kitchen which I’m assuming is for takeout orders. On the left side is where the dining room is located. The waitress sat us down in a booth and we didn’t know what to expect since we’re not too familiar with Peruvian food. I went with a familiar dish, the paella and my husband went with the seafood tacu tacu. We also had ceviche for an appetizer. It was so delicious, we’ve been there a couple of more times since then. Overall, good service, good food, and clean establishment.

My wife and I come here almost weekly. We will continue coming here because we love the food, and have always received good service. My favorite dish: Red Snapper«A lo Macho»(With seafood and sauce). I also like the Steak with Huancaina Pasta. My wife likes the Garlic Fish. We both love the«Saxay Fish», Lomo Saltado, the Jalea(Fried Fish and Seafood) is excellent. In addition to the Flan, you should try the Lucuma Cake or Crocante de Lucuma. Delicious.

I was reading the reviews, the food on the pictures looked delicious. So I go there to order some take out. I approach the counter and look through the menu for about 5 minutes. Nobody came, the cooks just went about their business, nobody went and got the waiter, I ended up leaving. That sucks– I give this place a 1 star for bad service. That really sucks. I really wanted to try their food.

This place always has good food. The jalea we had wasn’t quite on par with the original chefs. But food was tasty. Prices are above average for some of the dishes. The atmosphere is nice and the service was decent. They have good lunch specials.

Being Peruvian, I expect a lot from Peruvian restaurants. With that being said… The ceviche was different from any other ceviche I have tried… I still cannot pinpoint what was missing but I am almost sure it was the lemon… Besides that their food is good and flavorful. I recommend the tiradito and a good lomo Saltado.

I have been to this amazing place twice in 1 week. The food is perfect and the service is great. On one visit we had the Arroz con Mariscos for 4 and it was plenty and very nicely priced. The fried yuca and conchitas were a very nice appetizer. Last night I had the shrimp in ajo(garlic) and it too was delicious. My husband had the pescado al lo macho and it was delicious. We will be back!

The Churrasco de lo pobre is to die for. Great place but a bit hidden. Just past university. I heard the seafood is good but never had it. Either way great place to eat peruvian food

So everything I had tasted ok. Wasn’t bad but wasnt great. Only issue was that everything tasted a little too fishy. That raw seafood taste. I felt a little nauseated after eating. This place is for the real seafood lovers. I thought I was a real seafood lover until today. I’ll pass on seafood for a while lol.

My GF ordered the causa de pollo. After being half way through it she noticed it had a sour taste to it and told me to try it, I tried it and confirmed it was, so told the waitress about it, normally you would expect it not to be on the check right? Wrong, they billed me for it. The rest of the food was good but overpriced. I could get the same quality for a whole lot less. I guess you’re paying for the ambiance, décor and live one man show.

Unilocal! to the rescue again. This place is right next to the hotel I’m staying at, so I check out Unilocal!for some recommendations. I am intrigued by the large numbers of two star and four star reviews, Unilocalers either love the place or meh. When a large number of reviewers who claim ancestry and say a place is like what mom cooks, either mom is someone who I should have married, or she cooks like my mother-in-law. I walk in and I wonder if the place is open. The«OPEN» sign is lit, but there is no one around. After about five minutes, the dish washer walks out of his alcove in back and notices me, and yells into the dining room. Someone comes out and seats me. I’ve been reading about the Tacu Tacu Lomo Saltado. The server brings out the plate and I immediately get a whiff of the awesome aroma. There are huge chunks of beef swimming in a flavorful sauce, covered in grilled chunks of onion. I could have done without the mound of mixed rice and beans. It wasn’t bad, but the meat, onions, and sauce did it for me. The server brought out a dish of hot sauce to go with it. The hot sauce is potent but goes well with the meat. This meat and sauce would make a great taco or torta. This is good stuff. You go here for the food, not the service.

Really enjoyed their mixed ceviche. Tasted great, I did not try anything else yet, but I will definitely go back there for their ceviche. It was so good I didn’t take a picture of it, but instead took a picture of the appetizer we shared.

The food is good here but not the wait for it. I understand they cook to order so it may take some time. It took an hour to get the appetizer and another hour for the main course. Service is slow and not great. We came with a friend who loves Peruvian food so we thought to give it a try. The food is tasty and comes out perfect with a large portion. They get 3 stars for the food!

I work near this place so I have been coming for lunch here right from when they opened. I think I have been here 6 or 7 times, and each time I tried different dishes. All one better than the other. Started with the Ceviche which was delicious and the latest dish was Seafood fried rice(chaufa). I can see the crowd also getting stronger as the restaurant ages. It has good music playing in the background and also has a good vibe to the layout. Overall I would rate as — Ambience — 5⁄5(nothing much of an ambience) Food taste — 5⁄5! Presentation — 5⁄5 Food quantity — 5⁄5 Service — 4.5÷5 Price — 5⁄5 Recommended dish — Ceviche, Chicken Chaufa, Seafood Chaufa, Chicken fillet with Garlic Sauce, Breaded chicken filet. Basically anything on the lunch menu is delicious. And recommend lemonade for the drink. Light not so sweet and utterly refreshing. Also, for the heat lovers, please specifically ask for the yellow hot sauce in addition to the red hot sauce. The flavours in the yellow sauce are mind blowing!

I didn’t expect to find amazing peruvian food in Fort Lauderdale. I’m here visiting my brother, from New York where there is great Peruvian food. My party of 4 ordered tacu tacu con lomo, camaron al ajo, y chaufa… my brother who hates eating out. loved the food. This is a new place for me to come to when i visit my brother and i recommend for anyone living here. Great food

We decided to try the neighborhood food and found this restaurant. We assumed because it said«deli» and most reviews indicated that is was not expensive, we thought we would try it. Good food but slow and expensive! A beer was $ 5 and cheesecake $ 6.35! The dishes were large in portion but basically«been there done that Peruvian.» For the time of day, and the tucked away«deli», we surely didnt anticipate a bill that was over $ 68.00(without tip)!!A faster more enthusiastic staff would help too. our waitress was inattentive and assumed we didnt want dessert almost throwing the check at us… The place was nice but needs to have lighter and less expensive fare if they are going to advertise to lunch crowds. They would get more business.

I’m half Peruvian, and this is my favorite local place to grab some real Peruvian food. I only go for a handful of things that we don’t make at home: ceviche, tacu tacu, chaufa and my favorite: pescado a la chorillana! All delicious! My fam and friends have tried a lot of the other menu items, but I’m a creature of habit and stick to a handful of things I love. Def worth a try if you’re in the area. Also lotsssss of aji and rocoto if you love spicy like I do !!!

I only found out about Saxsay from my friend Susan C.(hi Susan!) who lives nearby. I happened to be in the area and wanted to meet up with Susan and her husband for dinner and they suggested this spot. I only have one knock against it so I’ll just get it out of the way early. There was a guy playing live music when we stopped in for dinner. While he was reasonable on the recorder, his keyboard playing left much to be desired. It was just kind of weird to be listening to him noodling around on the keys over an electronic drum beat that sounded like it had just arrived from 1986. We opted to sit in a small private room off the main dining area in hopes that it would minimize our listening experience. But in terms of eating, I had no complaints. I am not very familiar with Peruvian cuisine so I opted for something that seemed pretty standard. While I can’t remember the Spanish name of the dish, it was basically thinly sliced steak, onions, and tomatoes served with rice. It was delicious and I cleaned my plate. Everyone else at the table loved theirs too. Our waiter was very good, too. He was patient and didn’t mind explaining the nuances of the different dishes and was happy to make suggestions.

I really love Peruvian cuisine and though I haven’t been able to try all of them within our area, that is at least not yet, what I can say is that Saxsay is certainly one of the better ones. It has a new location, completely new spotlessly clean interior and kitchen. Though the décor is rather Spartan, pleasant with a clean look about it. Their menu is large, wide ranging, full encompassing with every well know Peruvian dish along with some of those lesser known, but each authentic in every detail with both daily and chef specials. During my most recent visit to get a light lunch I went for their mix seafood ceviche with a glass of chichi. If you’re not acquainted with chicha it is a purple corn juice with spice, usually cinnamon, added, and theirs is one of the best chichas I’ve had, possessed of a clean fresh cinnamon spice flavor. The mixed seafood ceviche(mixto) was served full plate, in good presentation, consisting predominately of fish, scallop, shrimp, squid, octopus and mussel in a pleasant blend of fresh clean tasting ceviche juice garnished with red onion and small side dish of roasted Peruvian big corn kernels. I also had their flan which with its caramel tasting sauce served in clean appearing presentation being one of the best ever. The wait staff, as always, rendered the epitome of polite, helpful and profession service.
