The only reason I ever walk into this place is because they have a contract with Tampa Bay Club Sports, so my soccer team gets a free pitcher for every group of four we bring in after a game at Skyway Park. I would say it straddles the line between respectable sports pub and dive bar. Definitely a neighborhood favorite and it turned out to be a great place to watch the Bolts hockey games. The TVs are big and clear and our waitresses have always been very nice. The food is average and the beer/wine selection is typical. For what it is though– neighborhood sports bar for fun after a soccer game– I like it.

One of my favorite places for a cold beer and great food! I love the Tampa Original Steak Sandwich(it’s a Tampa Cheesesteak… not a Philly!!) and I also LOVE the new chicken wings(I like em «naked»!!!) The wait staff are awesome, the regulars are absolute gems and it’s worth the drive from Seffner to feel«at home» in a bar!

I came in here months ago during football season to watch a Seahawks game and I wasn’t impressed with the food. Tried in again and thought the burger n’ fries were«meh.» I give them extra credit for having an above average beer selection by West Tampa standards with 22 taps. I didn’t realize this last time. Ample televisions all around and the service is okay. Not a bad option in Town N’ Country/Westchase but definitely not the best.

Awesome steak sandwiches. I order mine medium, which includes hot cherry peppers. Since I’ve stored steak sandwiches this way, it’s the only way I’ll eat them(even when I make at home). I like the tater tots better than the curly fries — the fries are generally overlooked in my opinion. The soda is also always on point, well carbonated with the proper amount of syrup. Reasonably priced and will fill you up. Great place to watch a game and they do trivia night on Monday.

I saw that Mark H — an awesome Unilocaler right here in Tampa — gave Charanns Tavern a decent review. I was hungry for a burger and a beer and CT was not far away so I headed over there. Sunday means Direct TVNFL Sunday ticket on televisions all around the bar with fans of different teams gathered round each one. It’s a nice sports bar — wouldn’t call it a dive despite looking like it might be on the outside. Grabbed a seat at the bar next to a nice couple. Got a cold Stella draft is a nice Stella glass. Bartender was friendly and did a decent job despite a full bar. Burger was ok — have had much better. Fries were also not special. As bar food goes it was good enough. Not the best place I’ve been but it’s a decent place for what it is — a friendly neighborhood sports bar.

Good solid little neighborhood sports bar. What really sets Charanns apart is the lack of cigarette smoke. I have to say moving back from the west coast I have just started to readjust to smelling like the bottom of an ashtray after stoping at a sports bar(or at any bar) to grab a drink. Charanns is a welcome escape from this. A nice comfortable space with plenty of TV’s and most of all its clean. Not just clean of smoke but a nice friendly clean safe place to watch a game and/or grab a drink. The food is standard bar grub, but done well or at least above average. I have to say on a side note you NEED to lose the plastic tableware and get real knives and forks. Seriously your food is decent, if not above that and your silverware should match it(and not make me feel like I am actually at the game eating or maybe a county fair). Bottom line it’s a solid good place and I will be back. Cheers.

Cold beer, friendly staff and the best cheesesteak and tater tots ever. This was my first stop coming home from the hospital when my son was born and that was 9 years ago! They are still going strong in their new location by Home Depot and if you like sports you won’t be disappointed. There are enough big tv’s to watch every game!

Bar tender today was awesome. Kristen I think her name was. Food was amazing and service was by far the best I’ve had sitting at a bar in a long time. Prices aren’t bad either. I’ll definitely be back. With so many tvs this will be my football get a way.

Sat and the bar, had a couple beers and then a German roach crawled up my leg! I screamed and knocked it onto the floor where it probably still lays dead. The bartender didn’t care in the least, said«if that did happen, it’s because they came and sprayed deep into the walls yesterday!» I told her, it did happen as the roach carcass is laying dead beneath my barstool. She handed me my bill. I’m scared to even imagine the number of roaches that were chased into the kitchen after the spray. Yuck! I won’t be back.

Charann, please hire employees who want to be there and actually want to keep your establishment open. With the service and behaviors I observed on Tuesday night you will definitely be calling Jon Taffart within the next several months to keep your bar open. On Tuesday night my friend I experienced horrible customer service. Your bartender on her cellphone, waitresses on their cellphones, bartender and waitresses gossiping and complaining about other customers, but most disturbing… No one smiling, greeting, or making a customer comfortable being there. YOUR employees continued to comment how time was moving slow as they looked miserable being there. Re-evaluate your staff because it’s truly a reflection on you! Good luck!

A lot nicer inside than I expected. I thought this place was just a bar but it has plenty of boothes and tables to sit at and enjoy a meal. My family and I finally decided to try out Charanne’s because we kept hearing about their great cheese steak sandwiches. I was not impressed with what I got. There was not enough steak although the steak was alright I really didn’t care for the processed cheese they use. I wouldn’t recommend the cheese steaks their supposed to be famous for. On the other hand the onion rings were very fresh, hot and crispy. I just wish they had salted them out of the fryer but they were very good. The service left a little to be desired, although the waitress was attentive she was just at the table far too many times. Three trips to just deliver our initial drink order, three times she stopped by to ask if she could clear things off the table and at least two or three times she came by to ask if everything was ok. We had food we had drinks, go away please. I’m not sure if this is what management thinks is good service but it isn’t your server is pestering people. Let them eat. Overall it wasn’t the worst place I’ve been to but the food was forgettable and the service was just plain overbearing.

They advertise the best philly cheese steak in Tampa but they hardly put any steak in the sandwich. I was pretty surprised due to them advertising on TV and in their menu that they had the best. I was pleasantly surprised with their desert. Gave a three star rating due to good service and good desert. Minus two stars for having a below average philly.

Charanns is a great local sports bar where you can watch all the games, find decent bar food and get well priced beer. I brought a friend here who was visiting from out of state to watch one of the games. We split a pitcher and couldn’t believe the price — $ 8 for what was probably 5 or so beers. And this wasn’t the cheaper beer either, there were cheaper pitchers too. The cheese steak sandwich was great along with the tater tots. The portion size for tater tots is huge by the way, a large is definitely meant for at least two. Chili cheese fries are another great add on to watching a game. Service was attentive and quick and offered good recommendations such as ordering a pitcher over regular beers for significant savings off beer costs. Overall, I have and would recommend to a friend.

Came here on a Saturday night at 9pm and bar was basically empty. Found this place after searching Google for a Penn state bar in Tampa. They were playing Michigan and not showing on a single tv. Bartender did switch channels for us. Nothing too special about the cheese steak and fries. Food was reasonably priced.

After having been to the old location, this one is a vast improvement as far as seating and décor. They also have a lot more tv’s anf I really like the big outside eating area. This establishment is an institution of sorts in Tampa. The regulars have regulars. This is all an enigma to me. The service is lousy and down right rude, some of the menu offerings could pass for actual food, if you can get someone to take your order and actually cook the food. For years before I discovered the first location, I heard about the Philly cheese steak sandwich. It was almost like a cult following, telling you the approximate location, but not the exact location. Ok the first restaurant was small, but I see nothing that rates guarding this sandwich. In the world of Philly cheese steak sandwiches, it is small, but fine. Compare this sandwich to similar ones in Tampa and you won’t have to go far to find similar and better sammie of the same type I have no problem with the establishment, the new location is bigger, cleaner and much nicer. My problem comes from poor staff attitude and rude remarks anf kust being ignored. This starts at the top with the owner and that I’d why it has carried over to the new location, this is nust my opinion and observations. What’s a girl to do? You need dive bars as part of a well rounded life

Charann’s is located in a partially occupied non-descript strip mall. The interior atmosphere is standard sports bar. The main event here is Charann’s Cheese Steak which has been their marquis for years. That is all I ever order. You can order mild with banana peppers or dial it up as hot as you want to go. Prior to the early 90’s, Charann’s was located at the foot of the Courtney Campbell Causeway in a cinder block building with a gravel parking lot. It was very dark inside and you had to exit slowly for your eyes to adjust to the bright sunlight. You avoided using the restrooms. It was the perfect dive bar but was torn down for road expansion. Good news, they will be moving at the end of the summer near Home Depot on Hillsborough/Sheldon Rd where they will have an outdoor seating area.

This is the best cheesesteak in the Tampa Bay Area if you like just a little(or a lot) of heat with your steak. This is basically a dive bar in a kind of questionable neighborhood. There are lots of TVs, and its not a bad place to watch a Bucs game. But — go for the cheesesteaks. I suggest ordering at least«medium» hot — although I like«hot.» Love the steak, the peppers, the cheese, and the buns. The steakfries and tater tots are not bad either. I love this place for the food — you gotta try it. A very well kept secret!
