Customer service fail. Our server finally arrived at out table to greet us 3 minutes after the drink specials ended. He brilliantly noted «yeah, that sucks cuz the drink specials just ended 3 minutes ago». When I pointed out to him that we had been there well before the end of the hour he replied with «yeah, I can’t change it in the computer». Really?! The sangria was good, but was disappointed with the service.

This is one of my most favorite bars in SoHo. The inside is just freakin cool. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, great prices, can’t say enough good things!

I went for the cheapster Thursdays, as usual it was good but haven’t been in sometime. I used there valet and the guy which never seen before seemed alright, when went to get car he ran to car, attempted to get my car left it all sideways and lights on and ran back to say sorry I don’t know how to drive stick shift. Sorry here’s your keys so valet was total waste and I paid $ 5 parking, what scares me is how did he get it parked in the first place? Probably grind gears or whatever this is very upsetting you’d think a valet driver could drive stick damn. Be careful if use there valet I’m scared to know what they did. No tip for him and Cheap should of refunded me, park at mcd next time it’s free. I think the rating is solely based on the valet driver.

Had a few bites of sushi, and they were surprisingly good. I know, who orders sushi from a place called CHEAP? I wouldn’t classify this place as cheap any more. Drinks are averaged priced, but a fun stop.

Cheap’s is my favorite place to kick off the weekend!!! Nothing erases the work week like a White Gummy Bear Martini, followed by sushi and sliders !!!

This review is for the bar only. I went here for late-​night drinks with my boyfriend after going to a bunch of bars in the area. This one was definitely my favorite, it was a nice change from the overcrowded, underaged, and honestly just trashy bars around it. It could’ve just been the night that I was there that it wasn’t over packed like the others, but I thought it was really nice. It seems clean compared to the others, and very fairly priced. I will definitely update this review after I go back in the coming weekends.

I went here a week ago with a group for a friends birthday. The atmosphere is unique — am I in a sushi bar? A restaurant? A club? — who knows. That part I didn’t mind, I even liked a bit, and our server was great. What I didn’t care for were the overpriced drinks and hardcore sales. We had a server and he was doing a fine job, but apparently his counterparts must have felt we weren’t drinking fast enough and were sure to let us know that to sit at the tables you need to be constantly ordering drinks or food. Not so sure we will be back.

We went here on a Groupon and never went back. Cheap stood for the price of the food. Totally accurate it was all cheap, and some of it tasted decent. The drinks were not cheap, and the service was all right. We were sure if it was a restaurant, sushi bar or night club based on the atmosphere. I would like to try it one more time, because the price of the food was good. We just weren’t wow’ed.

Came in and ordered sushi. It was on point. I don’t know about the other dishes.
Service was good. I don’t know how other peoplelike it. But I felt pretty good
Needless to say, it is cheap!

The bread and the strawberry butter is too die for.
Drinks were good and the pepperoni pizza was also delish.
Forgot to mention ad mention free shot to check in and the waiter tells us that the owner doesn’t know how to take off the advertising on Unilocal.really

This bar caters to the college community for the most part. Off season it’s cool. Nice menu. They only get 2 stars because they would not honor the free shot for checking in because it’s ONLY for fall when college kids are around. Well you know what that’s 1 less drink I will buy at this place. Totally turned off. I’ve been here b4 with grown folks and had a nice time.

I call shenanigans. Why advertise free shots on Unilocal but then don’t honor it with a lame excuse?

Good food, beautiful people and great hospitality make this one of South Tampa’s best bets. The Aphrodite pizza with chicken and any of their sushi is always on point.

We went to Cheap because we had a groupon. We wanted to try as some friends told us it wasn’t so bad.
We had a very small menu with just appetizer and no entrée. We’ve seen some beef short ribs and other stuff much more delicious on the website’s menu but we didn’t have this menu… is it because we had a groupon ??
So we had to spend our money in just appetizer. Of course when we got out we were still hungry…
We had a melted goat cheese dish with crackers. which was good. We had a pork dish with some rice, spinach and a green sauce. It was good but we only had 4 slices of pork as big as a scallop. which, in my opinion, was not enough for the price.
We ordered some sushis too, which were served at the cool (hot) temperature and weren’t amazing. We ordered the cold one…
I won’t recommend that place to eat but maybe just to have a drink. I won’t come back…

I like this place… when it is past 1am and I’ve had a couple of drinks already. They also serve dinner with tapas style plates and sushi (odd combination). It is overpriced for the kind of food they serve. However, I always enjoy the bar scene at cheap. Live DJ and the lighting is perfectly dim. You have two different bars in a fairly small establishment so you never have to wait too long while getting drinks. There are plenty of booths and banquettes around the main room of the restaurant, so it really feels more like a club lounge. You would never guess that there’s a couple pool tables hidden in the adjoining room if you get tired of sitting/​standing and drinking. My absolute favorite drink here is the mojitos on steroids… It’s basically a mojito topped with champagne, but that last part really makes the difference! With all this being said, it’s not my favorite bar and I only come here for the steroids, not for the food.
Overall synopsis: Come here when you are already out on South Howard and you’ve gotten tired of standing in your heels at Macdintons, The Lodge, Yard of Ale; sit and have a mojito on steroids, then head back out and continue down the street to the other bars.

I came here for dinner last Saturday with my boyfriend since we had a Groupon. There was no wait for a table since it was early, about 6 pm. We didnt mind the noise level since this place is a bar. The waiter was friendly. And most importantly the food was delicious! We ordered the $ 9.95 8 oz Ribeye off the happy hour menu. We ordered the steak medium rare and it turned out great. We also got the Cerdo, Crudo Platter, and Aphrodite Pigza. The Crudo Platter was my favorite of the night. The fish tasted fresh and was prepared very well. I will definitely be going back.

Love, love, love this place. I come to Tampa once a month for my reserve drill. South Tampa is always fun, and Cheap is one of the more unique places. If you like Sushi and a Tapas Style menu this is a must

Oh, Cheap. I really, really wanted to like you. We had a local deal certificate — actually our second. Our first deal coupon was purchased last year but we forgot until it was nearly expired. Unfortunately, we tried to use it on Super Bowl Sunday only to find that they were having some special party with a really high cover charge… so no. We looked at it again on my birthday as a possible place for a nice dinner, but they were having some singles «key party» so it didn’t seem like a good choice for a romantic meal with the husband.
Third time’s the charm, right? Eh, not so much. The décor is cute and funky but this place is first and foremost a bar. We were initially shown to a lounge area with low couches and a coffee table. I looked around and saw a tiny table (the few hightops were taken) that was wedged between two rooms and was right outside the kitchen. Not ideal seating, but hey — we were bound and determined to give this place a try. We happened to visit on a Wednesday, which is the day they do a select group of dishes for a special low price. BUT — the menu clearly reads that these deals cannot be used with a deal certificate (gee, is that why they have so many of them out on all the services?). We found a few good choices on the regular menu, though some of the selections had some rather odd ingredients such as sushi finished with a vanilla dressing.
We started with their fried mozzarella and the small Chop Chop salad. The mozz was… interesting. It seems that they used fresh mozzarella which was an odd choice as it has a high water content and becomes gooey rather than just melty when heated. The coating on the round slices was very, very thick and paired with the very mild cheese, the coating was all we could taste. The tomato sauce that was served with it was excellent, but that didn’t make up for the bland, overbreaded cheese. The salad was excellent — a wonderful balance of ingredients with a light flavorful vinaigrette. We followed up an order of the sliders and the Aphrodite Pigazza. The sliders were okay, but nothing amazing. They were served with shoestring fries which were pretty standard. Usually the inclusion of bacon can improve my husband’s opinion of any dish, but in this case, it didn’t really do much. The Pigazza was good, but a little salty as it had tons of feta cheese.
Overall, we found the restaurant to be too loud, too crowded, and too much about «see and be seen» for our tastes. I am not sure we would return again based on food quality and we didn’t have a great dining experience. I had done a decent amount of research about this place but I just didn’t get the impression that it was more bar than restaurant or that finding a comfortable space to be able to share food and conversation would be so difficult.

As I have said several times, the good thing about Pub Crawls is that they take you to bars you would normally go to. I live walking distance from Cheap and the night of the 4^th Annual SoHo Zombie Pub Crawl was my first time here. I tend to stay away from this end of SoHo due to the immense amount of douchebaggery.
The bartenders and staff were very friendly and the vibe didn’t seem too bad. Then again, it was fairly early.
I see mixed reviews from my fellow Unilocalers, but I think I will try and come back to try their food. I will update my review then.

In my previous update, I noted that I had not eaten any food at Cheap. Well, about 6 months ago, I started taking advantage of «Cheapster Wednesdays» where everything on the menu is half off, even their fantastic strawberry sangria. Here’s what I can say about the grub, it’s not bad for the price and the cheapster deal on Wednesdays makes it some of the most economical eats in the 813. For example, on Wednesdays from 5 – 8, one can enjoy a tasty filet, asparagus and twice baked potato for $ 12.50. On the menu, it’s called «Solomillo,» and it’s delicious. One can also enjoy a fancy sushi roll for 5 to 6 bucks. Their sushi isn’t the best in town, but it’s damn good for half price, and would easily squash anyone’s craving. I’ve also had the chicken skewers, though I can’t remember their title on the menu, but there are face melting. Probably my favorite item, actually.
Again, the drinks are still inconsistent, but the service is grand. Joe will take good care of you, so ask for him by name. If the motorcycle is parked out from on Howard, then he’s there. They have also had a total re-​model inside, so the place looks a lot better, especially considering the building is nearly 90 years old!
Anywho, I’ve really grown to like this place, and you can see the slow progression in my previous reviews, so I’m bumping them up to a 4 star. And unless they stick sparklers in my ass and give me the winning lotto numbers, this will be my final review!
