I like GFS for a lot of reasons. I cook and I buy in bulk… a lot. I shop around to see who has better pricing and on certain bulk items GFS will beat Costco, Sanwa and even discount stores like Save A Lot. If they are out if something, they’ll order it for you and have it ready the next day! The store is always clean and the employees are extremely friendly and helpful. I haven’t had the need to buy the GFS brand, but their private labeled items are priced well. I can’t do all of my shopping here because they don’t carry every popular brand, but they do carry the items that cooks and restaurant owners buy, so I can find things here that I can’t get at Publix, for example.

It’s not Costco. Instead of Kirkland it’s GFS, it’s a heck of a lot smaller, you don’t get all the great samples(except for their coffee), you don’t get bags either though they have boxes. Great for restaurant owners looking to safe on bulk items, anyone throwing a party event can find most of what they are looking for, perhaps you liked a particular product you had at a restaurant(e.g cake, dressing, pasta sauce) you may be able to find it here. You get a little of everything at GFS. The prices are more than reasonable and you get excellent service. The store is ver well organized and clean, They have cool shopping carts as well. Just remember it’s not Costco so you don’t get too excited.

GFS is relatively new to the Bay area and there are not many locations. Today I had my first occasion to visit their store. It isn“t fancy, a bare bones, no frills store. The selection is limited and there are few brand names. If any of you have read my reviews before I don’t subscribe to the school of thought that brand names are always necessary. I did not have as much time to investigate the store, as I would have liked. I did find a frozen sweet potato pie that a friend has been searching Tampa for to serve on Thanksgiving. The assortment of goods and items offered was well planned and some unique. There frozen department appears to be a virtual cornucopia of various offering and is quite extensive. Now in their limited meat case it is bas ically different forms of quality pre cooked meats for sandwiches. Cuban pork, different hams, turkey, salami… these were all in large sizes, like 3 pounds or more and they offer free slicing. Now I bought a beautiful ham for $ 1.99 per pound and kept it whole. I divided it when I got home and froze part and put some in the fridge, this way I can use it for breakfast, lunch or dinner and slice, dice, chunk or serve it however I choose. Some of their prices were excellent and others so-so. Did I mention they have weekly sales? The door buster this week was frozen turkey for $.49 a pound. Yes, you read the price correctly. Personally I think we humans way underutilize turkey. If I had a freezer I would have bought 5. Who can feed their family a protien and a poultry protien, no beans, poultry for that price? It is not a store for your every day grocery shopping, but it sure deserves a second look. Personally I can’t wait to go back and thoroughly ecplore this sroe. What’s a girl to do, so many options!

I really love the aluminum sheets here but it’s bit far from home for me to get to on a regular basis. The prices are fair, no low-price surprises here. The store is clean, and perfectly organized each time-no complaints. I think it’s a great place to check out for party/bulk foods or if you have like, five babies to feed or something.

Another good bulk food option. Volume prices make it a bargain for many items, but average households do not use that many #10 cans of vegetables or BBQ sauce by the gallon. Some food and paperware choices are available in smaller sizes, but the price break is not as good. Good if you need case-lots of drinks like Red Bull — — or in preparation for hurricanes, hungry relatives, or Food-a-geddon.

GFS Marketplace, or Gordon’s Food Service, is a warehouse type store located along N. Dale Mabry, right next door to Red Lobster in the heart of Carrollwood. GFS offers bulk food, restaurant supplies, and assorted catering and party supplies in a warehouse-environment. Think of it as the grocery section of Sam’s, BJ’s or Costco, and you’ve got the basic idea. The stores offer a wide selection of the finest quality fresh meats, pork and poultry, ready for immediate use. Additionally they have canned, packaged, and frozen foods, bulk spices, family-sized snacks, party food, supplies, disposables, and restaurant-quality cooking and serving products. If you own a small deli, lunch counter, food truck, or catering business then GFS is a place that you’ll want to frequent. As for the rest of us, if you are feeding a large family, or planning for a party then you’ll find that GFS has a wealth of supplies to make your life a lot easier. I’m throwing a Super Bowl party this Sunday, so I went to GFS to buy large bags of frozen chicken wings, celery sticks, baby carrots, assorted nuts, chips, snack mix and sodas. Also picked up plastic cups, plates, bulk napkins, trash bags, and all of the essentials. Highly recommended for your Super Bowl party needs!

Great for restaurant type supplies as well as food and other party needs. Prices aren’t always as good as Sam’s/Costco, but are reasonable for the most part and it is a much easier shopping experience. Also, if your are making BBQ or anything else requiring large quantities of dried spices, they have restaurant sized containers for only a few bucks more than the small ones in grocery stores. Fills a niche very well.
