This is my favorite place to eat. I have never eaten anything in my life that I enjoy more than their volcano roll. The dynamite roll is great too along with many other ones. I only get a chance to stop in about once a month and it’s a treat every time I do.

I’ve found that this is the best sushi restaurant in Tampa. The rolls are a lot bigger than the Soho favorite down the street. They have a big selection of specialty rolls and the best part? There is a picture of each roll so you can see what you are getting!

Overheard employees talking about a lady and how big she was thought that was rude all I could think of is what they may be say about me. She was a paying customer and they charged her too much for the same customize sushi I had we worked together downtown together and I remember the first time I brought her here I feel bad I ever referred her here won’t be back. THATWASRUDEYOUNEVERKNOWWHOSOMEONEKNOWS! Then they argues with her when she said I never normally pay this much

Food was okay but the menu is wayy overpriced for what you get. I dont understand how average food can be so expensive

Sometimes the chef’s wear shirts that say«Best Sushi in Tampa» and that is no lie! The Sushi served at Matoi Sushi is not a rice wad with a sliver of fish, RATHER it is a nice, healthy sized, some might say, slightly, thick slice of properly cut salmon, tuna, whitefish, or what have you. The wasabi is the real mcCoy, as is the ginger. Everything is fresh! The shashimi is fantastic too. If you go, I recommend the #9 Steve Roll and #2 Sushi Sampler and some rangoons, enjoy it, you wont be sorry that you did!

I can’t believe the customer service me and my family experienced last night at this place. Granted that we arrived kind of late, about an hour before they closed, so we politely ask the receptionist if you’re still accepting customers. The receptionist was happily took us in, but thats were the great restaurant experience ended. As we were being seated the waiter(The Vietnamese speaking one) tried to rushed our order and continue to complain that we shouldn’t come late to this restaurant next time. We apologize that we came in at this time but I replied to her saying if thats the case than your receptionist should not of accepted us to the table. If that wasn’t bad enough she continued to say«You should of known better than to come late» and in the heat of the disagreement one of us replied out of frustration«well we won’t come back.» So this is were the zero stars if Unilocal had one comes in. She tells us, «don’t worry if you don’t come back, this restaurant is very busy. Losing you people won’t matter to us!!.» Are you serious!, how can you say such a thing to a paying customer and especially to the ones who come pretty regularly too. I was shocked on how she, not the restaurant, treats there customers. Her attitude really reflects the value of the restaurant and on how they service customers!

Such a friendly, efficient wait staff! We ordered sushi and sake which was delivered promptly. The sushi was plated beautifully. The ingredients were fresh and flavorful. The accompanying ginger and wasabi were just right. Drink refills were quick. The bill is presented on a digital tablet. The wait staff scanned my credit card and held the tablet while I chose a tip amount and signed. We opted to have the receipt emailed but printed copies are available. The restaurant décor is a bit dated but is clean. The fish tanks in the dining room are a hit with the kids. There are TVs in the dining room which were a bit distracting.

Food is great. I was craving kimchi jjige and it came out very good! I really enjoyed the food. We were there first before these two Vietnamese ladies but our server was Vietnamese and she sat them first where we were suppose to sit which is by the fish for our son. I confronted and she was trying to sit us somewhere else .It was very busy so I would’ve thought she made a mistake but she took their order first and took care of them. We got our food and a lot of things were missing like silverware, and plates. Well we enjoyed our dinner. It was great. Service was okay but I’m still going to be back there for the food !!!

My husband and I used to dine at Matoi Sushi all the time in college. They used to store customer’s personal chopsticks at the restaurant which was pretty cool. My husband still owns his flashy purple chopsticks with his customer number on the case. Last night we were craving sushi and we didn’t want to drive out of our way so we decided to order take-out from Matoi. I can’t believe we haven’t ate here in so long. The sushi is even better than I remembered! We ordered these dishes: Vegetable Tempura Appetizer: 5⁄5 I love how light and sweet their tempura breading is! The onion rings were the best of the vegetables. Sashimi Salad: 5⁄5 The salad included a generous portion of fresh sashimi. Sexy Mama Roll: 5⁄5 This roll was loaded with tuna! Definitely one of the best specialty sushi rolls I have had in a long time. Banzai Roll with soft shell crab: 4⁄5: Good, but I prefer my sushi rolls raw. My husband selected this sushi roll since he loves deep fried soft shell crab. Will definitely be back soon!

Delicious! We had the tempura tt roll and the Bangkok roll for lunch and it was awesome! Crab Rangoon was good too, I really liked the sauce. My boyfriend liked the process of using your credit card at the table. He says«in this day and age, it’s a good safeguard against fraud.» We’ll definitely go back for the bul go gi and kalbi! Service was polite and attentive.

I systematically ordered my food because I thought it would take some time to bring out the food. However my app, sushi, and bibimbap all came out at the same time. 3 – 5 mins after I ordered. I ordered the baby octopus, it was okay the sauce drizzled around it made it good. It has a rubbery texture so if you don’t like that don’t order it. I ordered the spicy conch sushi rolls which were pretty good. Finally I ordered the bibimbap which came with a small soup and kimchi on the side. Usually places with bibimbap give you a small dish for the spicy sauce. This restaurant gave me a whole bottle and I really appreciated that! The only thing I would improve about this place is the wait staff. I was waiting at the front door for 3 mins while they were looking at me and walking past me, I actually almost walked out.

First time here and I must say it was a great experience. I had a bubble roll with soup and fried rice. The only thing that disappointed me was that the fried rice only comes in a HUGE portion not as a side item so if you order it have two people eat from it or be prepared to take some home. They have a great list of rolls I just wish I had enough room to sample them all! I will definitely be returning!

My favorite Korean restaurant in the Tampa area. They also have sushi but I primarily go for the Korean food. I highly recommend the Hwea Dup Bap, Gal Bi, and spicy pork. The service is always fantastic and most of their food is delicious. They don’t have BBQ tables, they have a limited selection of banchan, and many of the soups are just average. Despite these criticisms, I love Matoi and make a point to go when in Tampa.

Celebrated my mom bday here with friends. Lucky us the place was not busy and got table immediately. Ordered several dishes and they are all good and the serving are huge. Had tried there sushi here before and they are fresh and great. They are good with big groups and servers are fast and always coming back to check on everyone. With the kind of food you get the prices are not bad at all. Definitely will come back for more.

The other night was my second time at Matoi but first time actually eating. Another time a few years ago I walked out after not getting any service. So I came back with a couple Koreans and service was good this time around. Imagine that. This is one of their favorite restaurants for Korean in the area, if not their #1 so I trusted their judgment. They shared some gigantic size bowl of Jam Pong. I haven’t seen a bowl that size since I was baptized. Clearly that soup was meant to be shared between a few people but I’m not into spicy or seafood so I didn’t try it. I got the jap che which was good but I wanted more meat. Lesson learned. Next time I’ll get the bul go gi. All in all, a nice experience and I’ll return sooner than later.

Have been wanting to try this place for a while but haven’t had a chance to until recently. It gets busy but the wait time isn’t too bad. The waitresses are really nice. I was surprised how quickly the food came out. The Korean dishes were amazing, one of my favorite place to have jap chae. Surprisingly, the sushi was pretty good and the flavors and combo worked well. Tip– don’t go late because the sushi isn’t as good as it was earlier in the day with previous visits.

This place is a hidden gem in Tampa and frankly some of the best sushi in this city. We lived in Vegas for 10 years and now in Tampa have felt like the sushi is not up to the standards we were used out west. This sushi place is the real deal! We love the sushi bar. Tried salmon and yellowtail sushi, awesome! Fresh, good size piece and tasted perfect. Tried several rolls and enjoyed all of them. The sushi chefs were nice enough to give us a whole fish ferried. Love the cheeks! Good beer selection with 2-for-1 happy hour for beers during the week from 4−8pm. Decent sake selection. Service, excellent!!! Just try this place. Side note: Kalbi ribs and other Korean specialties served in dining room. Sushi bar has TV’s and there is also a sake bar separate that doesn’t serve food. This place is fantastic! Have a feeling we will be here A LOT! Can’t wait to come back and order the Michu or tempura fried ice cream. Yum!

After a really long day truck shopping the hubby and I worked up quite an appetite. I don’t think we could have found a better place. We already bookmarked this for dinner so it was a bonus that Toyota was a short drive away! Here’s the basics: Restrooms clean Restaurant clean Plenty of seating — as the night progressed, they got very busy. Greeted and seated immediately Okay, that’s out of the way. I think all I really need to say is if you love Japanese and Korean cuisine, just go! It’s great. If you like it spicy and you’re of fairer complexion, tell them you want the real deal. Make sure you can handle it though. If it’s not spicy enough, ask for more heat! Sue was our fantastic server. It took her a second to warm up but after a second, she was awesome! She will help if you are unfamiliar and she will help if your familiar too! She was great. Pssst, thanks Sue! I’m the fair complexion customer that forced the hubby to order massive amounts of food ;) you know, the one that likes is HOT!!! Can’t wait to go back!

Came to this here for the first time last Friday, definitely one of the few restaurants in Tampa that offer both both sushi and authentic Korean food. I arrived around 6pm, there was no wait and was seated right away. We ordered seafood pancake(small) as an appetizer; it was delicious, portion size is very reasonable, and cooked perfectly, nice and crispy. Next we ordered three sushi rolls, Conch Roll, Matoi Roll, and Red Dragon roll. Definitely would recommend the Matoi Roll, as for the other two, it was satisfying but not OMG I wanna get this again. They also have a roll called Sam Oh Jung Special, this roll doesn’t have a description besides the word SURPRISE! I might have to get it next time! I will definitely come again, but I believe that the Korean cuisine here would far surpass the flavors of the sushi. I will have to come again see if what I believe is true!
