Have been to Miguel’s, so when I saw that they had a son –called Miguelito’s — I decided to test drive it for my family and friends who might come to visit Tampa in the future; I treated myself to an early Valentine’s lunch, grabbed a gorgeous booth and sat looking at the fabulously intricate artsy back wall, like a tintype of old days! the colors are very chic, black, greys, silvers and their bar surfaces make it look like an «ice bar» — very hip place and the wait staff waltzed the floors smoothly, quietly and efficiently! Even the busboy removed plates quietly and politely and Gary came over to chit chat for a bit also. Food service was quick and ABSOLUTELY delicious; authentic down home Mexican! I had a carnitas taco, with sides of rice, refried beans and pico de gallo; GREATCHOICE! everything comes on small pristine white dishes of different shapes to add interest; This would TOTALLY make a great pop in place, or date night place or a bring your family & «just pick» place, rather than the more formal dining of Miguels; I have to give this 2 thumbs up, 10 forks & a 5 star rating! I was there more or less with the«lunch crowd» and dressed dressy casual — felt right at home… I will return!

I had a hankerin’ for Miguel’s Mexican. We drove by one Sunday, and it was closed. I remember people checking in to the new Miguelitos, so we figured we’d try it. Miguel’s is an amazing, established, consistent place. Miguelitos must be wonderful, I hoped. It wasn’t. Perhaps they’re suffering growing pains. It wasn’t very busy, but the staff seemed a little unorganized. There wasn’t the flow I expect from the established Miguel’s. The menu here is a different concept — instead of large plated dishes, we choose a la carte items. So, we ordered chips and salsa for the table, and I ordered a street-style barbacoa taco and a fried chicken taco. The salsa’s amazing. It’s similar to Miguel’s, just spicier. The barbacoa was somewhat dry, and didn’t arrive particularly warm. The fried chicken taco had a nice temperature. But, the menu shows two peppers, indicating an «extra spicy» menu item — and it wasn’t really that spicy. The menu also suggested that it contains habanero ranch, but it seemed to have sour cream drizzled instead. So, the menu advertises«street tacos» and«street corn.» I’ve found a few sit-down restaurants advertising their fare as «street» style. The shtick is that you’re eating from an unassuming food truck, or walk-up dive. The style may be named«street,» but if you’re sitting down for table service, and being served on gleaming white tapas plates, you’ve lost the suspension of disbelief that you’re eating street food. I’m beginning to dislike this gimmick. This location has been like 5 different restaurants in 5 years — it’s a kiss-of-death location, it seems. I do hope they do better than the previous failures. Unfortunately on my visit, all I could do while was constantly compare it to Miguel’s in my head. And it’s far below Miguel’s at this point. I’ll try again in a few months when, and if, they have the kinks worked out.

The wait is over; Miguelito’s Taqueria y Tequilas is finally open!!! My husband, sister, and I dined at Miguelitos for the first time this past Saturday. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous! The restaurant’s interior is modernly decorated in black and silver with circular booths, flat screen TVs, a huge illuminated bar, and a large outdoor patio with a second bar. Everything on the menu looked so god so we ordered a little of everything. We started off our meal with a small chips and salsa and the Langosta Brochettes and Pork Belly from the tapas menu. The chips and salsa aren’t complimentary as they are at Miguel’s, but a small order is cheap and very filling and the chips are freshly made to order. Warning: the salsa is extremely spicy and burns so deliciously good! The Langosta Brochettes consisted of fresh lobster tail, jalapeño and cheese wrapped in bacon and served with pico de gallo and habanero ranch. The dish was so delicious, but a little pricey at $ 18.50 for two baby lobster tails that weren’t much larger than u/15 shrimp. The winning tapas dish of the night was the slow braised pork belly sauteed with brown sugar and butter. A little heat was added to the dish with a jalapeño pepper on the side. Would definitely order the pork belly again! Minor complaint, our tapas were served with our meal even though we ordered the tapas with our chips and salsa appetizer. Since we were served our tapas and our meal at the same time our tacos got cold before we finished the tapas. For our meal we ordered the traditional street style carnita taco and the filet mignon taco. Like the chips, the corn tortillas are all freshly handmade to order. The carnita street tacos were garnished with avocado, queso fresca, onion, salsa cruda, and cilantro. I think our waitress brought us the wrong filet mignon tacos. We ordered the filet mignon taco with filet, bacon, onion, roasted jalapeño, queso fresco, horseradish sauce, pico de gallo, and cilantro. Instead we received tacos with filet mignon that were garnished with the«street style» toppings. It was good, but I was really looking forward to the horseradish, roasted jalapeño, and bacon toppings. Despite a few hiccups in the service we really enjoyed the food and will be back again soon!

Good food, just not much of the main ingredients in what we ordered. Wife had the fried shrimp bowl and it only had 4 shrimp. I had the pork belly burrito and it was slightly overcooked and tough, ratios were also off, not much pork belly to beans and rice in the burrito. Salsa was AMAZING!(Saved the 3 star rating, other wise I would lower the rating to 2.5)

Why 5 stars? Because the Miguel genetics are flawless. — — — Miguel’s is my 2nd favorite restaurant in the Bay Area, so when I heard that they were opening a sister restaurant with some new menu items, you can imagine how much of a delight this was for me. Maybe I went in with a bias, but I think they backed up my internal hype. Where Miguel’s is more of the dinner/platter type, Miguelitos is the go-to for tacos, burritos, tortas, and bowls. Depending on what you’re in the mood for, the Miguel’s family provides the undisputed best Mexican food in Tampa Bay — and in my mind, it’s not even close. What TB makes up for with delicious Cuban and Latin American cuisine, it lacks in the Mexican variety. Miguel’s family hails from Houston, as do I, where good Mexican food is found within every square mile. The interior is swanky, to go along with a similar outdoor patio that you find at Miguel’s. They did a really phenomenal job with the décor — it feels like a party in there. Much like 98% of restaurants in Florida, you can come here for a date night, or visit in shorts and flip flops. As is the case with Miguel’s, be sure to order some queso with your chips upon arrival — it’s also the best in the area. I enjoyed a torta and some street corn, and next visit, I’m definitely going to knock out a bunch of those tacos. I tried a bite of my fiancé’s filet mignon taco, and it made my cry tears of joy. Maybe that was the spiciness of the street corn, but I was also really happy. Miguel, if we ever meet, can I give you a hug?

My new favorite taco spot. I first visited this spot before it was open to the public. The service is ample. Everyone makes you feel welcomed with smiles upon entering. The bar is one of a kind. I’ve never seen anything like it. The tap literally has dry ice on it which goes well with the frost themed bar. My first visit I sat on the patio. I loved the vibe as well as the ambience. Plus my waiter, oh my goodness, he looked as if he came straight out of a fitness magazine. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. I can’t recall his name… Something spanish.. Trust Me Though YOU Can’t Help BUT Notice him Especially On THE Days He’s IN Blue. ;) I’ve tried several things on the menu. My favorites are the barbacoa taco, pork belly taco and the lingua taco. The street corn wasn’t what I was hoping for. The brunch menu is awesome. The spinach y Pablano quesidilla was good but so was the hamon. They have a pretty unique drink selection also. Be sure to try the peach purée margarita… ;)

Great new spot. The patio is nice and fresh as well as partially covered for those who don’t want the full exposure to the elements. I had two frozen margaritas to help me get through my gasparilla hangover and a vegetarian torta. The queso was good and the salsa had a nice kick to it. They are dog friendly which is always a plus for my pup and I. I like the atmosphere and the location is easy to get to as well as walk to if you live close. My friends and I will definitely be coming back.

This was our first time at Miguelito’s and we absolutely loved the ambiance. The restaurant has very cool contemporary design with a great outside area and bar. The menu had a good selection of tacos, tortas and burritos. We each had two tacos, queso with chips and two shots of tequila with an orange wedge and cinnamon. The portions were enough to fill us but not stuff us. Our server was a rock star. If you go ask for David. He was very personable and made the experience even better. Corrado & Brenda

Awesome new spot in South Tampa! A little spin off of Miguel’s. This place has an incredible vibe. It’s a great place to come for a casual lunch and a great place to come chill with friends, day or night! It is beautifully decorated and the patio is unlike any other in this area. The roof over the patio is retractable so you can sit out here even if it’s raining outside! Our service was exceptional. Even for it being brand new our server Gary was very knowledgable and had some amazing recommendations. He explained to us that miguelitos has something no other restaurant in the area has — tequila on draft! The draft literally has ice around it and the tequilas come out at –5 degrees. Well he didn’t have to twist our arms to try these… My favorite was the jalepeno infused Cabo Wabo. These shots are served with an orange slice that is sprinkled with cinnamon, AMAZINGCHASER! I have been here a few times now, both for lunch and dinner. The menu options are a little different so it’s a nice variety. All my friends love it. I have literally had like every drink on the menu and they are all delicious. If I had to choose I would say my favorites are the Screamer and the Mexican side ride. They are open early and open late so plenty of time to fit a trip here into your sched! They are also doing a brunch on Saturdays and Sunday’s, which I can’t wait to check out!

Good food with a south Tampa 40k millionaire feel. The signature margaritas that miguels offers is here as well and was wonderful. The tacos were good as well with the shrimp tacos being the best of the bunch. With a lot of flavor and at a decent price, it was very good. The street corn was amazing due to the addition of bacon, so if you enjoy bacon and corn and good taste, this dish is for you, however if you don’t eat bacon be careful, as it does not mention this on the menu. The atmosphere is great, but expect the typical South Howard crowd. Definitely worth the try and hope they expand into Pinellas county!

My family and I were really looking forward to going to this new restaurant so when we heard that it was open we decided to go to brunch after church. As soon as we walked in the host wasn’t very welcoming, he just asked us how many instead of making us feel welcome and like we had picked the right brunch spot. We all thought the food was bland and the rice had no taste. There was nothing really special about the food and the tapas didn’t even start till four but the menu didn’t state that. The service was average, in the sense that the server didn’t even really explain the menu nor did they suggest anything(being that it’s a new place) The table was small and the server never even told us his name. Even though the place was beautifully decorated, we will never go back.

We had lunch here and absolutely loved it! The owners of Miguels down the street opened it and I loved it more then Miguel’s which I also really love. The décor was well done and overall has a great atmosphere. The outside patio is really nice and the food was great! We had the Mexican street corn which is fantastic! It has bacon in it which I hadn’t had before. We had the pork belly burrito and 3 tacos: filet, sausage and blackened shrimp. We loved everything and would highly recommend this new spot!

It was fantastic! The peanut butter — banana pancakes were unreal! We cannot wait to go back and try other items on the menu! Gary, our server, was very kind and had great knowledge of the menu to give us recommendations on what to eat. He was also very patient with our 3 kids! Looking forward to going back!
