Place sucks! I live down the street and will drive all the way to international plaza to have Kona’s sushi! Way too expensive for mediocre sushi. They really need happy hour food and better drink specials.

This place has the best specialty sushi rolls in town. Have tried many other sushi restaurants in many other cities, and this one has the best. Just my $ 0.02.

Love the sushi here! Small and quaint place with great sushi, good happy hour deals, and friendly staff.

First time here. My boyfriend and I decided to come by Christmas night before watching a movie. The place was empty and we were waited on fairly quickly. We eat sushi alot and decided this spot was just okay. I wasn’t totally blown away but I can’t complain. I’m sure we will be back.

I always have a good experience at Sakana. Nice atmosphere, quiet, easy to come in and get served fairly quickly. I go to Sakana, almost solely, for sushi. The BEST roll by far is the Po Boy. It is fashioned to taste like a grouper po boy sandwich and it does oh so well. The sauce, fried grouper, and lettuce come together so well in this roll. Easily my favorite roll in all of Tampa. The Green Monster is another roll I like alot. It consists of immitation krab and avocado. This roll also sports a seaweed salad and krab topping which I dont see alot on rolls. Sakana has a great menu with rolls I have never seen at prices that are comparable to sushi joints in the Tampa area. Go check em out!

I live close by so figured I’d try this place out. Staff was very friendly and sushi rolls were about average. Kinda pricey for what you get but its nice having a local sushi bar close by.

Not impressed with this place. Tried the steak teriyaki to go one night(was not in the mood for sushi, really wanted Japanese hibachi steak with veggies but teriyaki was all that was on the menu). Asked on the phone if it came with fried rice, hostess said yes and miso soup. Told me to give them about 20 minutes, showed up 25 minutes later and still had to wait another 10 minutes(which was awkward because the hostess just disappeared for all this time). Then they forgot my soup, had to wait another 5 minutes. Price was a few dollars more than their online menu had said. Got home and it was this weird sliced very rare steak with white steamed rice(not fried). I guess they are going for a trendy South Tampa vibe but the food was just not good. It was actually inedible and I ended up ordering pizza.

Great food, always fresh. The Voodo chips are exceptional and the sushi chefs are very generous with portions and engaging. I also want to make sure people know, the take out is just as good! The are fast and will have it ready when you get there for an evening at home.

Sakana isn’t bad for it’s size, but I feel like I wouldn’t want to be here on a Friday/Saturday night since I’m pretty sure the left part of the restaurant with the full bar turns into a small club(it just seems like it from the open area where a makeshift dancing area was). Good thing it was a Thursday evening and we were hungry for sushi, and not dancing. We sat at the sushi bar since there’s never a reason not to in a sushi restaurant. Our waitress was helpful, along with the sushi chefs, especially since she explained what was in their special rolls listed on the board. Their wasn’t really any interaction between sushi chef and customer unfortunately, besides an explanation of the rolls and your common«hi/bye, thank you.» I’m used to sitting at a sushi bar and having small talk with the chefs, but that wasn’t the case here. The sushi wasn’t bad, I felt it was a bit sauced for my taste however, almost like every other fusion restaurant I’ve been to. Again though, it was enjoyable, especially their take on a sort of crab rangoon. Wouldn’t be my first choice, but I’d stop by again if I had to.

Lunch service… it went away and I saw a sign so we stopped in. We arrived at 12…1:30 is when lunch was served. I’m re-thinking this having been a good lunch decision. Hopefully the lunch crowd of 12 people didn’t completely overwhelm the system! Hopefully Sakana can return to its once regal lunch choice for me. Right now, just not quite there.

The sushi and the sushi chefs here are the best and most authentic I’ve tasted in Tampa bay with a wonderfully large and diverse menu the only drawback to our visit being that our server was slow and on multiple occasions forgot to put in our order altogether though the food more than made up for it

Best sushi joint in Tampa! They have a lot to choose from. Thief menu has a great selection of non fish choices as well as cooked rolls. The daily 5 – 7 happy hour is unbeatable. Also has daily specials like 2 for 1 sake Tuesday’s, 30% of kitchen apps Sunday’s, 30% off mokimono rolls on Monday.

Had several sushi rolls and shrimp tempura from their happy hour menu and was very impressed with the quality of all. Lots of fish in the rolls, tempura was crisp but not overdone, even the miso soup was better than is served at other places locally. Service was very attentive and the atmosphere very pleasant. I will be back to try the rest of the menu and can heartily recommend it to friends.

Man, I really wanted this place to be good, but it just wasn’t. It’s clearly over-priced. As a person who eats sushi weekly, I know what a spicy tuna roll should cost, and theirs is too high. I went with my pregnant wife who had to order cooked stuff and it too was too expensive and/or too small. The Tampa roll was like $ 7.00, and the chicken teriyaki meal looked like an app. The service was also poor considering it wasn’t a busy night. The server who took our order never refreshed our drinks, and a console tell different server took our bill. The only time we saw our server again was when she picked up her tip while I was finishing my beer. Maybe I’m just spoiled by my usual sushi place, but I was very much unimpressed, which is sad because the location is great and it has a cool vibe

It was okay. Our server was very friendly and nice and we were seated right away. The atmosphere was fantastic and I really like the way it was decorated. The sushi tasted very generic like the kind that you get at a Chinese buffet. I like their spicy chicken but the portion was very small. The price was pretty decent for what you would expect. I would go again but it’s nothing that I would go out of my way to go to.

Stopped in for happy hour(5−7pm) and so glad I did! All of our sushi was excellently prepared. Fast service but not rushed in any way. We tried the sea bass, lobster kitsu and a specialty roll which was not listed on the menu. Definitely will return soon!

I think this is one of the best kept sushi secrets in south Tampa. The sushi here is always amazing(albeit a little overpriced) but I’m never disappointed. My favorites are the Volcano Roll and the Venus Roll. The servings are BIG so bring a date or a friend. For dessert try the tempura banana fosters with their homemade sauce. Enjoy!

The food was ok… Came here since I live down the street. Would have to say I would rather drive the extra mile to get better sushi.

We do date night here every Monday, partially for the amazingly fresh sushi and atmosphere(love the new bar!) mostly for the cutie bartender Katie and buy one get one happy hour wine! Great little gem in south Tampa, service is excellent, never too crowded, try it out on an off day like a sunday/monday — you wont regret the opportunity to be part of the«regular crowd»

Try to go and order the Torched Hamachi app. It’s so good, I hate sharing it with anyone! As a matter of fact, I like to go here by myself and sit at the sushi bar. I always order the cucumber/cilantro martini. Some things are better not shared! Lol
