The staff to start are fun no other way to put it. They go with the flow with their customers. The crowd is anyone and its so nice and cool inside, good break from the Tampa heat. The food is fancy but delicious at the same time and the prices; I have no complaints. 11 – 13 for sushi and its great. Tastes fresh and good looking inside. You would love this place trust me ;)

I just moved to the Hyde Park area and have been to the Hyde Out several times. First, I’ll start out by saying the sushi is amazing and absolutely the freshest I’ve found. The first time I visited I came with my dog and sat outside at the bar area with him. Super awesome experience, the bartender was super friendly and chatty, he was great. Enough so to make me want to come back. But after my visit today, the server made me feel strongly enough to leave a review, in hopes that management will see it. I went in for brunch today(Sunday) around 3 – 4. There were maybe 3 other tables in the entire place. The server comes up after about 5 minutes and says he’s «Handling a Customer service issue» and will be with us shortly. I guess that should have been an indicator. He came back around 10 – 15 minutes later to get our drink order 20 minutes after we arrived. Before we could order miso he quickly walked away to get our drinks with zero personality. He brings the drinks and asked if we wanted to order, so we did. He then comes back a few minutes later with paper to get our order a second time and write it down. Meanwhile, he never bothered to check if we wanted to refill our empty Mimosa and Bloody Mary glass. The first thing out with our deep fried sushi roll. Maybe 10 minutes later our 2 pieces of sake nigiri came out and a few minutes later our raw roll came out… No idea why the fried roll was the quickest. Maybe 15 minutes after that, the bacon and cheese breakfast sandwich came out. We told him to cancel the miso soup because we never got it. He finally brought the check, with the miso soup still on it. We had to get up to find him to have it taken off. Finally got the bill correct and within 2 minutes of me signing my receipt he was quick to pick up the check, without asking if we needed anything or if we’d like more water considering both glasses and the pitcher were empty and we were still chatting. He never told his thanks or have a nice day. I wouldn’t be so unhappy with this situation if I wasn’t a server myself. we all have bad days I understand, but sitting in the restaurant with empty glasses while you watch your server text is not an excuse for poor service. I can’t believe the lack of interest shown my the server. I expect way more from the Hyde Out. If this is what is required of the staff, please allow me to pick up some shifts and see what happens when customer enjoy the food AND service. Absolutely maybe the worst service I’ve ever had. So disappointed.

Quickly evacuated what seemed more like a guido club than a sushi fusion restaurant. Had a drink that was good before I made my escape.

Just visiting Tampa and was invited to Hyde Out by one of the owners. What an amazing place! Fantastic lively vibe. The design put into the place is really something– you can tell every detail was put together by an artist with vision: the inlaid walls, the invisible doors to the bathroom, the low light atmosphere…& yet the still managed to make the place functional and comfortable. Not an easy feat. Multiple bars; no crazy lines to get your drinks. Friendly staff– love service with a smile! The food… omg the food. Sushi was phenomenal– I def recommend the spicy girl and sexy soho. There’s valley parking– yay

This place came highly recommended by a friend and so I am completely open to the idea that they were having a horribly off night. Regardless, the experience was a disaster. We arrived at 8:15 and were seated immediately. The restaurant was relatively empty and the three out of the four of us ordered off of the $ 5 burger promotion. Upon ordering we were informed that the the«white cheddar» was in fact yellow — no problem, just incorrectly labeled on the menu. The fourth of us ordered the«chicken and waffle sandwich», which upon ordering we were informed that it was actually a chicken and pancake… slightly strange, but again no problem really. And last of all one of us ordered a side of broccolini. While waiting for our food, one of the apparent servers who was helping out(not our specific waitress) came to refill our carafe of water and actually sneezed in one of our drinks. He proceeded to pick up the coke and peer into it as to see if anything actually was in there before deciding to get us a new glass. This was just bizarre and no apology was ever offered. After sitting and talking for around 45 minutes our waitress comes to our table to inform us that our food should be out any moment and that she was sorry for how long it had taken. She was very kind and knew that it had been an inordinate amount of time, but this was the first time she had said something and it was already 45 minutes after our order. Finally, 15 minutes later, she brought out our food. Most of it was correct, but my burger was actually missing the bacon I added to it and also had the tomatoes which i requested be left off. I was hungry and so I said it wasn’t a big deal. The chicken and pancakes were burnt to a crisp and basically inedible. Also the broccolini was MIA, but I didn’t even want to bother with it at this point and so we ate our entrees. After everyone had finished eating(no joke we had no bites left of our burgers), the young man brings out our broccolini. It was laughable. We took the plate, and the one of us who ordered the chicken and pancakes decided that the broccolini was at least a better option than the charred chicken and pancakes. She picked one up and bit into a noticeably cold stalk that had clearly been sitting out for a prolonged period of time. The waitress again was apologetic and the manager did indeed give us a 50% off, but for the oddities, mistakes, and just poor experience all together I can’t recommend going here.

Are you looking for the music, lights, and atmosphere of a club, but the seating and food of a chic fusion restaurant? Then this is the place for you. That really is the best description I can come up with. If I closed my eyes, I felt like I should have been on the dance floor of a club on a Friday night, but when I opened my eyes I was sitting a table and trying to decide between sushi from the sushi bar, or a modern take on an american classic for dinner. This isn’t particularly a bad thing or a good thing. It means you can go here and have a great night really no matter what you’re looking for. It also means that if you’re really not in the mood for one of those things, this won’t be the place for you. Once you get past the lights and music, the décor is that of a really cool, modern american restaurant, with lots of interesting artwork and wall decorations. The tables have buttons that look like they’d be able to call your server, but I’m not sure if they work(they didn’t seem to when I tried). The food was pretty good. I greatly enjoyed their take on Shrimp and Grits with cheesy cauliflower ‘grits,’ and my boyfriend’s sushi roll was remarkably good for a restaurant that doesn’t focus solely on sushi. Our tuna appetizer was also a remarkably big portion, which was surprising because I’m used to trendy places like this having such small plates(though my entrée actually seemed smaller than that appetizer, now that I think about it.) The drink menu was interesting as well. I tried one of the house cocktails and was very happy with the result. Their wine menu is limited but the club atmosphere is more attuned to beer and spirits anyway. The price was a bit high, and finding parking that wasn’t valet was a bit tough. But over all it was a fun night, and I’ll probably be returning.

What a hidden gem! Hubby and I had sushi — cutter roll and fantastic roll– delicious! Good size ginger salad. Wait staff very attentive even as larger crowd started coming in Friday night. Will come back for sure! Right across the street to dance place. Great date night option– dinner here & go across street for some dancing. Fun evening out!

Stopped by for a quick glass of wine and a sushi roll with my girlfriend on a slow Thursday night. I had the Temper Tantrum roll, which was delicious. Our bartender, Melissa did a wonderful job of describing the menu and was very cordial with us. As a fellow bartender, I give this place a vote of confidence!

Had reservations for an early dinner date on a Wednesday, and we ended up going an hour earlier. When we arrived we were the only customers dining so we had the entire place to ourselves. It definitely made it a romantic atmosphere even though it really is set up to be more of a lounge setting. The service from everyone from the valet, to the hostess, and our server was top notch. The background music was a mixtape from a local dj that was very enjoyable and set a chill vibe. The food was simply amazing as we decided to try a little something from the sushi and the entrée sides of the menu. I highly recommend the tuna ceviche appetizer, the chicken healthy plate, and the salmon. My date and I both agreed that we would come back again and again to taste everything else on the menu, since the food and service were so amazing! A++++

Exactly what Tampa needed! Tampa needed to move in the direction of stepping up it’s «Lounge» scene and it did so in a big way with the Hyde Out. Its got an awesome feel and you just feel like having fun when you walk in. Between all the different settings created within one restaurant, the awesome food, or the multiple cool bars its really just a great place to go out without having to dredge through the SoHo experience. Gets very busy and the staff can forget about you at times if your sitting at a table. Parking is also a nightmare. But really this stuff just comes with the territory of having a cool place like this to spend a Friday or Saturday night.

This review is not for their sushi items. This place at Hyde Park could beat some if it is located in downtown LA. I ordered the Owl burger with cauliflower mash and fries. Everything was done right. I love their many options for sides. The interior design was great too. Would give 5-stars if it maintains the same quality for the second visit.

Just came back from lunch at The Hyde Out and was compelled to write this review immediately. I wanted to go mainly for the sushi since I was around the area. I didn’t have high expectations. I took a look at the menu beforehand and was prepare for the overpriced rolls. Walking in, it looked like a hip place to be. High top tables with comfortable seats lined the walls. There are chargers inserted in the booths for your convenience. It was absolutely freezing. I know I get cold easily but I felt like I walked into a freezer. I started off with an order of sake nigiri($ 4) and amaebi nigiri($ 6), both average price for two pieces of each. The plate comes out with the sake nigiri and what’s supposed to be the amaebi nigiri. The sake was good. The supposed amaebi was definitely regular ebi nigiri. I asked the waitress if their amaebi was served like this without the heads and if this was for sure the amaebi, she confidently said that’s how their amaebi is. I uploaded a picture of it, so can someone please convince me that’s what TRUE amaebi is? I also ordered 3 rolls: the cutter($ 12), the full moon($ 12), and the fox($ 15). The cutter was my least favorite. It’s a deep fried roll made with spicy krab, cream cheese, and avocado. The entire roll is drenched with eel and yum yum sauce. I couldn’t even tell that the krab was supposed to be spicy. The roll was half krab/half cream cheese. The full moon is a baked salmon roll with a twist: fresh scallop and tobiko on top. The full moon was my favorite. It resembles samurai blue’s spontaneous combustion roll and it wasn’t drenched in sauce. I had high hopes for the fox since it was the most expensive roll in the menu, but it was a disappointment. The roll is made of tempura shrimp and krab inside and topped with filet mignon. The inside of the roll itself was dry and nothing special, so I guess the filet mignon is supposed to add magic to it. The filet mignon was somewhat cooked, but it was very cold. It would’ve been better if they cooked it fully because it was like a slice of roast beef deli meat. This roll was drenched in spicy mayo. The last item I ordered was the Philly cheesesteak which was good. I liked the bread and the meat but there was not enough cheese. The fries were also good.

Went to the Hyde Out on a Sunday afternoon. It was not too crowded and we were seated promptly. There is valet parking, but plenty of free parking on the street. Although I have heard about the sushi. I opted for the Philly cheesesteak. It was completely as expected and super delightful! I also enjoyed bottomless mimosas during brunch for $ 12. I would definitely go back here. The atmosphere is beautiful. There is outdoor seating and I would imagine that Friday nights are quite crowded. The menu prices are very fair. Most sandwiches are in the $ 10 range and Sushi rolls are about the same.

Lots going on at this place. Trendy, but relaxed. Upscale but not terribly pretentious. Specialty drinks are wild. You can find the menu online. Very unique. Be ready. Good beer selection. Prices there are pretty standard. Cocktail prices are a lil’ heavy. You’re gonna pay between $ 12-$ 16 for one of their mad-scientist concoctions. Ouch. Went on a Wednesday with a female buddy and fellow Unilocaler. Their women-only(hmph!) Wednesday menu includes a number of sushi rolls for $ 5 and $ 7. Great price, and rolls are good too. Not great, but good. Like a number of other Hyde Park eateries the regular menu prices are a bit steep. 18 bucks for shrimp and grits? $ 16 for a sushi roll? Don’t come here looking for a bargain… Happy Hour is 4 – 7 every day of the week(that’s good) and includes 25% off any food item(that’s great). Even select bottles of wine are discounted, which is a nice touch. As I mentioned the sushi is good. Not great, but good. We also tried a $ 21 cheese plate which was well appointed and fresh, but nothing special. Not something I need to order again. The aforementioned shrimp and grits were… well…interesting. Very creamy and heavily topped with some sort of spicy, neon-orange oil. Too much. Not what you’d expect from a southern dish. The grits were servied with large tail-on shrimp on the side, not mixed in. Coincidentally the shrimp themselves were awesome… I ended up eating 3 of those and just a few bites of the oily hell-broth grits. The Hyde Out has potential. Service was great. Very attentive, knowledgeable… and the beer was nice and cold. I’m sure the menu will change/evolve over time so i’ll certainly be back.

This is a fun place to grab a cocktail and enjoy some sushi. They have both a great indoor and outdoor space. The signature drinks are very tasty. Not too sweet. And a unique selection. Overall the sushi is very good. Fresh and flavorful. They have a bit too many fried rolls for my taste but they have many other options as well. The service can be a little hit and miss. The servers are friendly enough but can be somewhat ignorant of both the food and drink menus. Our server was unable to answer several of our questions about the menu. Also, this place can be pricey. It’s easy to spend $ 100 for two people on lunch if you’re having drinks and sushi. Overall, I’ve had a very good experience here and recommend checking it out if you want to try a new scene, a new cocktail or a new sushi roll.

I am late to the game, but I finally ventured into the Hyde Out. WOW. It is so hard to believe this place was the now defunct Rack. We were greeted warmly as we walked in and everyone was very friendly. The interior is amazingly beautiful and sheik. The vibe here is very chill with great music playing by an in-house DJ. All the décor was interesting to look at while walking through the restaurant. Paije(pronounced Paige) was our server and she was a delight to deal with. I ordered two cocktails: the Smooth Criminal( ) and the Gutsy Gardener( ). Both were good and very smooth. We started with the Charcuterie and Cheese Board Combination. Everything tasted great, but I felt a large majority of the board were comprised of the fruit and nuts. The cheese and charcuterie portions were very minimal. I also ordered the rainbow tataki. Some of the sashimi was not that fresh. However, my friends were happy with their entrees: Shrimp and Grits and the Bangin’ BBQ Pulled Pork. they both tasted very good. Although I wasn’t too happy with my food selections, the service, the drinks, and the vibe are great here and I will definitely return to try out more of their food. Happy Hour is a bargain here with 25% off all food and drinks!

Upon reading about this new local spot from Unilocaler Sara, I decided to drop by with my wife for an early, jet lagged dinner. Too late for brunch, and too early for a normal dinner hour, we had no trouble parking and we had our pick of the tables in a wonderfully stylish and comfortable establishment. The sushi and sashimi menu was extensive, with three Japanese chefs behind the bar. The cocktail menu was very fun, with numerous tasty choices to imbibe. Finally, the food! Wow! My citrus caesar was creative and delicious. My main course, salmon and grilled bok choy on Israeli couscous, was a wonderful combination. My wife’s bbq sandwich with Asian slaw also received rave reviews, due to its full flavor profile. We learned from the manager their kitchen stays open until 12:30am so late night snacks are now on our menu! Most importantly, the sound track kept the energy up without being intrusive. I love deep house and their residence local DJ creates a vibe that cannot be duplicated and is unique to Tampa. This is our new favorite restaurant and club which we plan to visit again and again.

Super cool lounge playing deep house, offering good sushi in a beautiful space = my new favorite bar in Tampa! I’ve been looking for a bar like this in Tampa and the only ones that came close to meeting my expectations were Fly Bar and Cheap. Both are great, but I didn’t feel at home there … By home, maybe I mean DC. Hyde Out reminds me of several bar/lounges in DC but far less pretentious. The music and vibe of this place can’t be found elsewhere. The crowd isn’t like the rest of Soho bars either. It’s mixed and more mature. After years of clubbing and bar hopping, I’ve endured sticky floor bars, dirty bathrooms, creepy drunks, obnoxious drunks, and I’m over it. This place is a little more upscale and I can now afford and am willing to pay for valet($ 5 pm) and overpriced cocktails to enjoy in a nice establishment with friends. Let’s just hope the crowd stays cool and calm. The crowds usually turn over around midnight and I haven’t stayed long enough to see what happens here, but the early shift was a nice mix. I didn’t see the space when it was The Rack, but the new space is gorgeous with deep reds, black, distressed woods, metal work, concrete, booths and communal tables conducive for large parties to still converse and music loud enough to enjoy but low enough to hear conversations. There is still one pool table in the back by the restrooms, which look like a hidden entrance. Nice touch. They offer a full menu for lunch and dinner, but the sushi is clearly their strong point. It’s so fresh, and rolls aren’t loaded with just rice. The sushi chefs seem legit. The rest of the menu isn’t bad, but I definitely prefer their sushi over their burgers and entrees. Burgers need more fresh bib lettuce and a bigger pickle. Quarter slice and one leaf don’t cut it. Fries are fantastic if you like crispy hand-cut with skin. Overall, best lounge is Tampa. Not douchey. Great sushi.
